Yea that's really the main difference for me. The quest 2 looks quite good though I am getting a random stutter but that's likely my router from playing over air link. I rolled over my good link cable this morning with my computer chair...on today of all days lol. I didn't realize I had knocked it on the floor while playing. Index has the bigger FoV, a bit better colors to me and the incredible audio. I don't have a good 3rd party audio solution for my Quest 2. I should probably invest in one but at this point I am kinda waiting to see what's coming.

Either way, no matter what HMD you have, this game is awesome. I had it quite playable on the G2 but I had to reduce it to like 70% and if I have to do that, i'd rather use Index controllers.

I had to back down to 250% when I got to the Chiron station. I'm really loving this so far. Super immersive for me and it's so nostalgia quenching exploring things with Liv again. 10/10 so far and the best VR game I've played since Alyx without question.

I'm staring at the first ticks too, lol - and also got stuttering at that station. But I'm only using res 200% - have ms on and 90 Hz. Thought CV1 ss 2.0 would be better, but it also had stuttering. It does not feel like the game supports ASW 2.0 properly, maybe due to using its own engine, the CV1 stuttering was quite easy to see.

Not sure the game is that well optimized, if we get stuttering, many users may have severe performance issues.

I did experience some crashes, but seemed to happen more often with CV1 than Index, strange and could be a coincidence.

I got a good ways in now and this game is incredible. I unfortunately have to get on Kid duty so be a few hours before I can resume but this game is really awesome to me. The only thing stopping me from saying it's definitely better than Alyx or other games is no combat but it's on par at worst I think due to the story. Look forward to wrapping it up later.

RoadToVR said the game is just more of the same. Not sure what they have been smoking. Juno (AI), Popcorn (Cube-Sat that can communicate with you) and ticks (free moving alien life forms) and much more are new elements in the game. The interactions with Liv have increased and Liv has gotten 4k-ish ultramersion skin textures. Graphics and poly count look much better, especially in large locations. Soft shadows are now used, and volumetric light sources look denser. It's by far not just more of the same. The tram was completely new too etc.

Yea I had to further back down to 230. Game is quite taxing in some areas and when you dip under 80 it gets choppy. At this resolution it really is a toss up between Quest 2 and Index visually. I've been swapping between the two interchangeably and they both look similar. Different pros and cons with each.

I'm running Quest on air link at max resolution, 72 hz and 3300 Encode width with a fixed 200 bitrate and link sharpening enabled. I had it at 3680 but that's what was causing a stutter in this game. Went down a little and it's been good since with my 3090. Not doing any supersampling so there's some jaggies but it's subtle enough for me.

As far as the game, it feels very much like Alyx in some of these levels with the biomass breathing effect on the walls and the ticks resembling head crabs. I've also got a device now that adds some combat like element. Game is great to me.

I had a little more trouble last night with high-res textures not loading. I was in a cargo area, and the textures on several large containers were a blurry mess. After hanging out in the area for several minutes, some of the proper textures eventually loaded, while others never did. I noticed a few other textures as well that weren't loading in. I'm not sure whether there is a particular setting that would help with this, or if it's just an issue with the game engine. Still having fun with it, though. I'm at the point where I'm just about to receive some chassis and tool upgrades.

The only place I've had that issue is out in the open world, the distant textures don't always load but I imagine it's unavoidable due to the loading on the GPU. In all of the actual areas I haven't had any texture issues except at the most distant lods, those like to pop in. Are you on the High preset?

Yeah, I'm running High preset, no MSAA, TAA enabled. Check-marks across the board for my system at these settings (I tried turning off TAA and turning on MSAA, but that gave me an X for the GPU). I've got the game installed on an SSD, so I don't think it's a slow data access issue.

Up-close objects are showing low-res textures and taking a long time to pop in with the high-res version. I think it's a general issue with the game, because I've noticed it in some YouTube videos. Here's a screenshot from the UploadVR video review--I'm sure the textures on the switch being operated by the player are not meant to look so crappy:

No definitely not, I haven't noticed anything like that in my playthrough. Weird. Definitely looks like a bug.

I'm starting the have a theory that the first levels were made for CV1 - and then it gradually changed to Rift-S. If I say the word FTL then it more or less marks where I start to see better lcd graphics. In the start many places are too dark with lcd - but look awesome using CV1. Later on it's like there's more light and better lcd image quality.

Some dude said he had crashes with 90 Hz, but never with 80 Hz. 80 Hz may be key. I had some annoying stuttering, but changing to 80 Hz is was gone, and surely this game since summer 2019 was optimized to Rift-S and 80 Hz. My settings right now: 80 Hz + High (no MSAA, but TAA) + Index res 200% + no motion smoothing. Had solid 80 fps this evening - but tried several places changing to 90 Hz and got strange stuttering - so 80 is the new black, lol.

Now I'm starting to understand why pyroth309 was in such a good mood yesterday - talking about Alyx class graphics and 10/10. It appears he had neither been smoking or drinking (well, I guess). Today I stand corrected too - this is my new review in the Rift Store:

Even compared to Alyx, there's really no comparison:

Liv, may I call you Iron Woman? πŸ˜‚ (sorry for the bad humor, she didn't like it either as you can tell from her face)

For those still in doubt if this game is worth their money - here are some more examples of why Lone Echo 2 transcends - or at least is on par with - Alyx, but be warned, there will be some potential spoilers:

I havent had any issues with brightness. I have the index 100% bright tho because it makes the colors pop more. Havent had any glare issues.

Graphics textures are better than Alyx but im not ready to say its better. It has other gameplay issues. At worst its on par tho.

Also Alyx has like 5 times better performance. I can enjoy Alyx in solid 144 fps using Ultra settings - and it looks like res 300 % or similar. Lone Echo 2 is extremely much more demanding - but I felt much more alone in Alyx, and I'm not that fond of first person shooters. Of course personal preferences will play a big role - and Lone Echo 2 is not a shooter, but a non-violent adventure game. Alyx may even be considered a VR horror game (Jeff, giant spider, zombies or whatever), so surely we can easily be comparing apples to oranges when focusing on content. But it's fair to compare graphics.

I don't think you'll notice the lcd black level problems if you don't know how oled looks in the game. It's really only in the start of the game where two rooms are very dark and filled with objects. Those objects are much easier to see with the Rift CV1 than my Index. I use brightness 100% too for the Index. I think some colors pop more with oled too - but no big deal. I've spent like 1 hour using CV1, and maybe 3 hours with the Index, so the latter is what I ended up with using. Have been considering replaying the entire game with CV1 when I've completed the game the first time.

Yea I was just saying I personally had no issues with darkness or visibility. Im sure OLED looks better. I dont have one to easily compare.

Thats kind of what I was getting at. Performance is rough, some areas warrant it, others im confused why frames are tanking so bad. I also am a little disappointed that we are in the same location. Rings of saturn is a lot less impressive this go around but I understand budget comes into play. I love shooters and wish there was more to shoot but the cloak tool provides a little taste. I also find pacing issues all over the place. Constantly having to stop and stare at a wall to wait for dialogue to finish to inquire about a new item….and the repeating dialogue gets obnoxious. I was exploring to find some pylons and was basically being harrassed to go to the next area. There was also several other minor issues and complaints. That being said its an incredible experience overall and its the most immersed I have been since Alyx and the first Lone Echo so 2 thumbs up from me.

I’ve settled on Index for rest of the game despite the wonkyness with controls. The FoV really adds to the immersion for me, especially in the outdoor areas. The Quest 2 black bars for me on setting 3 are a constant reminder that im in a VR headset but wireless was quite nice though for fast wall grabbing and twisting and turning. As i said above cant go wrong with either.

Didnt finish last night, seems longer than first one already. Im Back to work heavy this weekend so not sure when I’ll find time to finish.

Love making these pool bombs - or at least showing all the haters (or whatever they should be called) what they are missing.

Steam has close to no high-end PCVR-only (=games made from the ground up only for VR) AAA-ish content besides Alyx - the low-end game Compound being the second best PCVR-only game next to Alyx says it all.

So many will prefer playing their mediocre VR games and content - and avoid getting the most awesome VR experiences known to man - just to avoid Facebook. I'd press the off button to Grandma's respirator if that was needed to play Lone Echo 2 - ok, maybe not, but you get the idea πŸ™‚

Have you guys tried doing those signal relay challenges/side missions? You activate one, then you have a few seconds to fly to the next one and activate it, and you have to do the full loop of something like 10 of them to successfully sync all the relays. I tried a few times on the ones just outside the ship (you see them on the way to fix the generator), but the best I managed was 3 or 4. I just wasn't moving fast enough--I guess I should really map out a full route to hit all of them before starting. There was a similar side mission in Lone Echo in the cargo pods area, but it was much easier--you only had to reach three terminals, and there seemed to be more time to get from one to the next.

Not yet - I limit my playtime to about 1 hour per day to make the game last longer, lol - but I guess I might arrive there later tonight πŸ™‚

I skipped the "find-30-CubeSats" subquest the first time playing Lone Echo 1, but gonna do everything in Lone Echo 2 on the first play-through πŸ˜‡
