Question

Oculus TrayTool - SuperSampling profiles, HMD disconnect fixes (hopefully)

Oculus Tray Tool
current version: 0.87.3

What is it?
In short; It’s a free application that helps you get the most out of your Rift. It is developed by me, ApollyonVR, with the support of the community for beta testing. Please note that this application is not an official piece software from Oculus, I am not affiliated with Oculus in any way. Any issues you
have with this application should be reported to me and not Oculus support. You can reach me here on the forums or by contacting me at *REDACTED*

Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) has many features that will hopefully help you get the very best VR experience. It has options that help you automatically switch audio and microphone to the Rift and back, handle the Oculus runtime service, voice commands, batch import Steam games (added to OTT by the awesome headkaze over at http://headsoft.com.au), replace icons for your games and more.

It’s primary feature however, is the ability to create “Profiles” for you VR Games and apps.
Within these Profiles, you set how Asyncronous SpaceWarp (ASW) should act, increase the perceived resolution by using Supersampling and increase the CPU Priority of a given app to get the most juice out of your system for that specific application.
Once a Profile has been created for a game or app, OTT will detect when it is started and apply the
profile for it, without the need for taking your headset of.

If you want to have a peek at all the things OTT can do for you before installing the application, check the User Guide pdf. The latest version of this application will always be right below this intro, but the app also checks for available updates on startup.

Enjoy, have fun and please report any issues, suggestion or feature requests to me using the above mentioned methods. Oh, and feel free to buy me a coffee by using the PayPal button in-app. 🙂

The very nice people over at Guru3d.com have been kind enough to host some mirrors for the setups, so make sure to pay them a visit!

UPDATE 03/08

Hi all!
It's been a while since i released a new version, but now the time has come! 😃
I'm looking for ppl who want to test the new version before public release.
There are primarily changes for the Quest but anyone is welcome to test it.
Just drop an email to *REDACTED* and i'll get you a download link
and some instructions. Also include what type of headset (Rift or Quest)
that you are using.

Also, i now have a proper domain for the website, so swing by www.ApollyonVR.com
and check out the new Forum! If you have questions, comments or suggestions

that is the place to post them. 😃

Below are the release notes for the new version. Please note that this is a Beta version

for testing the new features. If you just want to use a stable version of OTT then head

over to www.apollyonvr.com and simply download the latest version.

Version 0.87.7
* Oculus Dash will now use the same CPU Priority as what you set for OVR Server.
* Added a "Comments" option to Profiles.
* Implemented Paolod29's code for a permanent AirLink (https://github.com/pd29/oculus-airlink-enabler).
* Added more choices to the Quest Link settings for "Bitrate" and "Encode Resolution".
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added option for "Dynamic Bitrate Max" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added "FOV Multiplier" to Profiles. Setting this to a value lower than 1, for example 0.8,
will increase FPS due to less pixels being drawn at the expense of lower FOV.
* When creating a brand new Profile, the current settings from the Game Settings tab will be used.
This will make it even easier to create a new Profile! Simply experiment with different settings
on the Game Settings tab, and when you have found the perfect combo for a given game those
settings are copied over when you click "Create new Profile".

* Added option to Disable profiles.

* Redesigned the Profiles window a bit.
* Fixed some bugs.

Cheers!

@Syndroid will add it to my todo list.
@AndyGarton you should not need a numeric keyboard, it's the arrow keys you need. I might redesign the feature a bit to make it easier to use.

Thanks, I didn't think it needed a numeric pad but was clutching at straws, since it just doesn't work for me. I tried both control and alt, in combination with the standard cursor keys. Nothing more to it than that right?

@Sitruz that does sound like your cpu is struggeling. I'm no cpu expert but i do believe the difference between an i5 and an i7 in terms of gaming is pretty significant. So my bet would be on an upgrade for sure. Ram is also a factor when SS comes into play, i myself run 16gb 2400mhz which i feel works very well.

@AndyGarton it is entirely possible i just coded that function badly. Someone else also mentioned that the shortcut keys might stop working if you minimize and maximize the gui. Will take a look at it and fix it.

@ApollyonVR, tried the hotkeys (ie. Ctrl+Arrow keys). Up/Down arrows worked at times, but I couldnt get the Left/Right to change SS. Should it change only after restarting the game (AC)?  Thought it could be used while in-game since these were shortcut keys.

Also, where can I find some docu/info regarding these other huds when pressing the Ctrl+Up/Down?

Changing ASW takes affect immediately, changing SS needs a restart of the game. So try chaning SS, restarting the game, then using the supersampling overlay to see what you have. I think the hotkeys should be in the manual, if not then i simply forgot to add it. Not at my pc now so can't check.

 Cheers!

I have found when I change SS via the Oculus Tray Tool for a game profile, I need to actually then exit the Tray Tool and restart the Tray Tool before the SS change will actually take effect.

Hmm, that's not how it should be, restarting the tool should not be needed. I'll take a look at that.

I am using the latest version of oculus tray tool (0.70.1), running as admin on an admin account. I try setting super sampling to 1.5 before starting any programs or oculus home/apps. Then I run ED in Steam VR and its totally unchanged.

I also tried to make a specific profile for elite dangerous and setting SS to 1.5 and still it does nothing in game.

Please help to get it working.

PS. Oculus debug tool doesn't work for me at all (get cannot connect to service/HMD not connected error, even if I have everything running on an admin account and the programs running as admin).

Thanks.

@Sitruz  Yea, some steam games won't play nice with the oculus service it seems, or not in the way that makes it always work. The reason the global setting works is that it is already applied, it is set when OTT starts, so the steam game will "inherit" that setting. So for a game that seems to not work i would suggest removing the profile for it, then you either change the global setting before starting it, or use voice commands to change it which will do the same thing but you don't have to take of the rift to do it. While in a game (any vr game), you can use voice commands to change SS & ASW, then restart the game and that way test what SS / ASW settings works best, without having to take the rift off.

@ApollyonVR Hi mate. You mentioned above to change SS by voice command then restart the game without taking off the Rift. So am I right in thinking the Oculus service doesn't need stopping and starting? I thought whenever the SS value was changed, basically everything except OTT needed reloading?

Perhaps you have an idea... playing Assetto Corsa, at times Hotkeys aren't recognized (ie. Ctrl-Up/Down to change HUD in-game), like it loses focus on the Tool or game.  FWIW, I also run joy2key (to map some wheel buttons to some keyboard keys) but none overlapping  with  Ctrl-Up/Down.  Not sure where the mouse's focus has to be for these keys to be recognized.

@Sitruz No, you don't need to restart the service, only any active VR application. After you'e found a setting that works for that particular game, create a profile for it and it should all be done automatically next time you start the game.

@sherpa25 Well, there should not need to be any focus at all. These hotkey combinations are "registered" with Windows when OTT start, and unless another application has the same combination, and is started after OTT, i'm not sure what causes this problem. Will look at it though.
