Quest 3 USB connection not recognized (development)

Hi,

I started with the developer instructions, but when I connect my Quest 3 to my USB port, nothing happens. The PC does not give any feedback that a device is connected and the Quest 3 also does not realize any connection.
Also in the Quest 3 Settings, I could not find the entry to enable developer mode. I found it however in the Meta app, but activating it did not make any developer settings visible like it was with the Quest 2.

My developer account is set up and verified according to the documentation. I also developed with the Quest 2 before.

I also tried the Quest Link (with the official cable from the Quest 2), but again the cable connection did not work. Air Link works fine via WIFI though.

Am I missing something? Did I miss installing a Quest 3 PC driver? Is my USB to old (3.0)? I tried different USB ports, 2.0 and 3, but with no difference.

Thanks!

Reboot your Quest 3 headset. Might be necesarry to do it twice but that did the trick for me.

ok this is what i understand is going on. plug cable in play some Beat saber. have some fun. Quest 3 is plugged in to the PC USB C port. start to shut down Quest 3 it wants to update so leave it plugged in as it tells you. get on PC to play some Dayz or HellDivers 2 maybe some Star Citizens. and keep hearing this warning going on in windows

it never stops just keeps popping up every min or so. not sure if it happens when the headset turns off. seems to be ok wile i have it on. until i turn it off. i just unplugged it. But this is some crazy BS.

I had a similar problem with Quest 3 not being detected by my Meta Quest Link app via USB-C cable. I tried multiple USB ports on my motherboard, but none worked. I know that the cable was good because it worked previously with the same PC but with an old OS (I had to restore my Windows 11 to factory settings).
Finally, I tried to do this wirelessly via Air Link. It synced without the issue. Then I disconnected it, and after attaching the cable, I could pass the USB cable connection without the problem. Surprisingly, all USB ports were working fine now. It looks like it is a bug in the Meta Quest Link wizard. So, if you have any problem with the wired connection, try to connect wirelessly, then switch back to the cable. Hope this helps.

What worked for me on the Quest 3:

  • connect the Quest 3 to the PC via USB-C
  • restart the Quest 3
  • on the PC, open a command prompt with admin rights
  • adb kill-server
  • adb shell monkey -p com.android.settings -c android.intent.category.LAUNCHER 19

With that the USB authorization + key pops up and can be authorized

I literally tried all of these things and nothing worked. I know the cable is good because I was using it last week.

The only reason I need to re-pair my quest 3 to my pc is because my CPU died, and I needed to reinstall EVERYTHING. I tried air-link, works fine, The USB 3 ports work fine with other devices, but I keep getting a "windows doesn't recognize device" popup error. and the Metal Quest Link app on my PC just spins and spins when I set up the link cable., Nothing happens.

I tried a clean uninstall, reset, then reinstall of the quest link pc app. Nothing.

I changed the power options on my USB power settings. Nothing.

I'm running out of ideas, and honestly places to look for answers because nobody outside of META knows how to fix these things, and Meta's support is NOTORIOUSLY BAD. Even a year after owning a Quest 3, there's still no clear answer what to do here. So frustrating....

Coming into here as this issue has returned for me after the V76 dropped.

It seems to come and go, and has done through out the ownership of the Quest 2 then to the current Quest 3. I thought once I went to the Quest 3 the connection issues would be a thing of the past. But no since V76 dropped my once LINK Cable that connected without fuss is now a distant memory as I am having nothing but Link Cable troubles and I have not changed a darn thing with my PC. I can not use any other way to connect devices due to current situation so it has to be a Link Cable.

I am sure its driver related, as this happens usually after an update. I do power off and restart as I to thought if its behaviour alters after an update maybe it needs rebooting.

Many reboots later still issues for now. I change USB to USB, one will work then suddenly will not be enough for the Link to work, I feel I am going around in circles with this.
