Question

Mic issues on Mata Ray-ban Dispay WhatsApp calls

I am using Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses with a Samsung Galaxy S25+ running Android 17.

When I initiate an outgoing WhatsApp call through my glasses, I can hear the other person, but they cannot hear me until I open WhatsApp on my phone.

Incoming WhatsApp calls work correctly in both directions. WhatsApp has Nearby devices and microphone permissions enabled, and I have checked the battery and background activity settings. The issue persists.

I did report, but I have no response..

Also normal carrier call through glasses wakes the phone screen and mic works. WhatsApp call leaves WhatsApp sleeping in background, screen stays off, mic doesn't work until I foreground WhatsApp

Report the bug through the AI glasses phone app. You won’t get any response to bug reports btw.

It sounds like a global issue, but I dont see this to be  reported in forums.AI says(i dont have this problem when I do normal calls):

That's precisely what's happening:

Normal phone call through glasses:

Glasses -> Android System Dialer -> Telecom service

The native dialer is always allowed to stay awake, it instantly grabs the Bluetooth SCO audio route and holds the mic. Your screen wakes, call UI pops up — so you see "calls appear on my screen" and mic works.

WhatsApp call through glasses:

Glasses -> Meta AI app -> WhatsApp (background)

WhatsApp on Android 17 is treated as a sleeping app. When you start the call from the glasses UI, Meta AI tells WhatsApp "start a call" but Android doesn't wake WhatsApp fully — it stays in sleeping / background state. No foreground activity = no mic permission handoff = no SCO route. That's why you don't see anything on your screen and the other person can't hear you.

When you open WhatsApp manually, you force it to foreground, Android gives it mic priority, and suddenly the route connects
