Correct Way To Detect The Hardware

I'm trying to make my game automatically switch to OVR mode when the Hardware is detected but I'm unsure as to how to do that correctly?

I have tried doing this:

if (OVRDevice.IsHMDPresent())

But it seems to be true even when the headset is unplugged, I can only assume that it's because there is an OVRCameraController in the scene, what is the correct way to do this?

    I'm having issues with this as well using CrossVR, OVRControllerTypeHandler, and PlatformManager, scripts.  It usually recognizes the platform and puts the correct controller in VR but for this app it's putting in a gearVR controller in the Go headset.  I did some debug printline and the  OVRPlugin.GetActiveController() is returning none, so it defaults to the catch block assignment to gearVR.  Been working on this for quite a while but to no avail, any tips would be great.  Is there a better/cleaner way to check for the platform? Thanks all!
