Does Meta XR Simulator support Mac OS?

I've installed and activated the plugin, but it never launches. Running Sonoma on Apple Silicon if that makes a difference.

I managed to get it work by doing the following steps. (I have done it on a new created Unity project):

    - installed Meta XR Simulator via Homebrew:

    brew tap Oculus-VR/tap
    brew install meta-xr-simulator

    - run the post installation script:

    sudo /opt/homebrew/Cellar/meta-xr-simulator/__VERSION__/post_installation_macos.sh

    - installed the package "com.unity.xr.openxr" via name in unity package manager

    - install all meta packages you need for your project. But do not install the Meta XR Simulator packages as JakeMaier mentioned. That means you have to install the packages one by one. Do not install the Meta All-in-one package because it also installs the XR Simulator packages we do not need and do not want.

    - enable the "OpenXR" provider in Project Settings --> XR Plug-in Management --> Standalone

    - fix all in Metas Project Setup Tool

After all the steps it worked for me.

Does the Meta XR Simulator work with Unity 6 and with the Meta Interaction SDK examples? I tried everything and I still get the same error:

Failed to load openxr runtime loader.
    UnityEngine.XR.Management.XRGeneralSettings:AttemptInitializeXRSDKOnLoad () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.unity.xr.management@4.4.0/Runtime/XRGeneralSettings.cs:148)

    - Using OpenXR 1.13.1

    - Set full path in meta_openxr_simulator.json

I have installed the Meta-SDK-All-In-One? Is there anything there that conflicts with this?

This is really frustrating that it randomly works for some people and not for others.

Hey kamen, I'm not sure if the simulator works with Unity 6 - I haven't tried it yet - but it should definitely work with the Interaction SDK. As for the openxr runtime loader error, there are a couple things it could be. If you downloaded the Meta XR Simulator from Homebrew, you should not install the All-In-One SDK. Having the Meta XR Simulator package from the All-In-One SDK conflicts with the Homebrew version, causing things to not work. You have to uninstall the All-In-One and then individually install the Meta SDKs that you plan to use. The issue could also arise from the version of your OpenXR version. I recommend OpenXR 1.11.1-exp.1 because that's the one that worked for me, but it's possible Unity fixed this in the 1.13 update and that the issue is coming from somewhere else. Lastly, make sure you have OpenXR checked as your plugin under XR Plugin Management for Windows, Mac, Linux.

Just to report that in my case the problem was that I did not install the Vulkan SDK listed in the instructions. I used the latest SDK installer from here: https://vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home

    My current setup is:
    - Unity 6.0.26
    - OpenXR 1.13.1
    - Meta XR Core SDK 71.0
    - Meta XR Interaction SDK 71.0
    - Meta XR Interaction SDK Essentials 71.0
    - Meta XR Simulator 71.0 (installed through homebrew !!!)

    Hope that helps somebody!

v71 (recently released) has improved Mac support. You shouldn't need homebrew or experimental packages.

You do, however, need at least com.unity.xr.openxr version 1.13 or later, which is available in Unity 2022.3.52f1+

tdmowrer I installed v71 all in one, com.unity.xr.openxr version 1.14, Unity 6000.0.24f1 on my MAC M2 Pro but still Meta XR Simulator does not work.

    I am getting:

Failed to load openxr runtime loader.
    UnityEngine.XR.Management.XRGeneralSettings:AttemptInitializeXRSDKOnLoad () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.unity.xr.management/Runtime/XRGeneralSettings.cs:148)

Sorry you're having trouble. I was able to get XR Sim working using a similar setup to the one you described (Unity 6000.0.24f1, com.unity.xr.openxr@1.14, M1 MBP, all-in-one package).

    Couple of things to try:

    • You need to configure XR Plug-in Management settings for "Windows, Mac, Linux Settings" (not just Android).
    • Check Unity's OpenXR Project Validation (Project Settings > XR Plug-in Management > Project Validation) and Meta's Project Setup Tool (Project Settings > Meta XR) and correct any outstanding issues.
    • Be sure you're using the Silicon version of Unity 6 (not the Intel version).

Since a couple of folks here have mentioned a similar problem, is there a specific sample or feature you're using that could help us track it down?

Hey tdmowrer thank you for your answer!

I did all the things mentioned in your post, but I didn't install Vulkan. As I am just using it in a hobby project, which I only had time during christmas holidays I probably wait for v72. Nice that it contains the update loader then!

    Hey Guys,

I have try install through homebrew, not use the All-in-one package, change openxr version but not work.

The solution just install "Vulkan SDK", and now I can use all-in-one package and latest openxr version.
