[Script] Test your Rift inside the Unity Editor

Hello! I've made an editor script that allows you to work with the Rift in Unity without having to build every time you want to test something. It's designed to work with any HMD, so long as it acts as a separate monitor in the OS you're using. All you need to do is specify where the top-left corner of your Rift is in pixel coordinates, where (0,0) is the top left of your primary monitor.

You can find it under "Window/Set Game Window Position..." in the editor.

I haven't been able to test this on OSX. Please let me know if something doesn't work!

Just wanted to post a quick alternative that I've been using.

I purchased a DVI splitter so that I can mirror the device to a display without sacrificing a monitor port on my video card.
This way I can simply move the game window and maximize it on the screen shared with the rift.

Does this work nicely on OSX now? I am still waiting for my Rift so I can't test this yet.

Can we make it so the window only pops up on play?

Okay, so I repurposed the script to work with a single monitor and automatically run when play mode is activated in Native Full Screen. To Stop Play Back and close the window, press Ctrl + P (this shortcut is native to Unity, so just look up the Play shortcut for the relevant OS)

At the moment, the screen is not downscaled, so the game's resolution will be whatever your current native screen is set to.

In the next version, I'll figure out a way to play at a lower resolution without changing the current native screen.

Edit: Sorry, there seemed to have been a bug. Its fixed now. You have to click on 'Window/Rift VR Game Mode' to enable the script. The tab must be opened and viewed before clicking play for this script to work.
