I would pay $20 instantly to have the OR working in the free unity!

I've scraped together a small websocket server thanks to some fellow's efforts on here, (viewtopic.php?f=42&t=413) and there's an implementation of websockets that can be compiled as a managed dll and hence usable in unity free https://github.com/sta/websocket-sharp or here it is on the asset store https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/#/content/8959 - the source is free to compile despite the price tag, so I have oculus head movement inside Unity Free, just need it to make sense, currently!

Using the DIY oculus kit from here http://www.mtbs3d.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=16326&start=80 it seems I can get the cameras set up correctly so the final piece of the puzzle is the shader for the image which an enterprising shader writer on the Unity forums may be able to fix as he has his own implementation of render to texture going, no doubt a performance loss but i havent had problems on my machine yet.

So yes, possibly Oculus on Unity Free soon, as far as I can tell, completely legitimately, not quite as fancy and complete as the proper integration (you have to start the server and none of the prediction and wotnot) but it's a start

Alright, well it's working, you'll have to buy the asset I used for the rendertextures, it's 19 euros from the Unity asset store called FXLab by Maaark but, working, not terribly quickly (90fps in-editor or so in the simplest of simple scenes on a 580 with a touch of resolution loss) or well programmed either and you'll need to run a small websockets server beforehand but yeah! If you can be bothered with all that i'll be happy to make everything i can available

It's 100% DIY, nothing from the OR SDK was used (as far as I can tell) apart from a some stuff for a small wrapper to get the orientation values for the sockets server thing, so hopefully noone can complain!

Noone seems that interested, mind, but its there if you want it

Well so long as it's understood you'll have to buy the FXLab asset (which any unity free user should, really, esp at 20 dollars, im not just promoting the guys thing for fun) to get it working then i'll get something together in a zip soon, although probably later tomorrow more than next few hours, need to write something up for it all and make it tidy

Sorry for taking so long getting this sorted, the weekend was busy and I want to run the stuff I did by a pal who is more familiar with c# outside of unity to see if I can make the websockets intermediary a bit more welcoming to use, he's got motivation in that his mate wants this too, and I dont want to distribute things that i'm not 100% sure that people will be happy and comfortable using them

Also had a big optimisation/performance hike thanks to some advice from the fxlab creator yesterday which means a decent 30fps on my machine actually at the full oculus resolution, which considering the method this is being done (Texture2D.ReadPixels in Unity which is notoriously slow but the only way to get image effects in Unity Free)

I'm wondering now if I can thread the second camera, hmm! If you're absolutely desperate to give it a go you can have it but if you can wait a bit i'll try have a pleasant package arranged that will make the whole thing a bunch more... pleasant

Huge thanks again - need to set some time aside tomorrow to test this out - been WAY to busy lately!
