When should OVRManager.AudioOutChanged fire?

When exactly should OVRManager.AudioOutChanged and OVRManager.AudioInChanged fire? My assumption was that they change when the default audio device is changed in windows, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

They fire when the desired VR audio in/out device changes. The default in/out is to the Rift mic/headphones, but it can be changed to follow the windows default audio device in the Oculus 2D desktop app:

In the top menu, select the gear -> Settings -> Devices -> Click the Rift Headset.

In this view, you can change the desired audio in/out device between the Rift and Windows default.

When Windows default is selected for in/out, then the corresponding OVRManager audio event will then trigger on windows device changes.
