Cannot get basic project to work in UE4

I cannot get a simple Oculus project to work in UE4, and have no idea why. Here is what I'm doing:
  • I've downloaded and built from source the Oculus UE4 branch from Oculus' Github. I'm using 4.18.
  • I've created a simple, empty project.
  • I've created an app on my organisation developer page, and copied the app id.
  • I've also added my Oculus ID to the Team list, and I'm logged in with that user on the Oculus app.
  • I've added these lines to the DefaultEngine.ini (where MY_APP_ID is the app id from above)
[OnlineSubsystem]
DefaultPlatformService=Oculus

[OnlineSubsystemOculus]
bEnabled=true
RiftAppId=<MY_APP_ID>
  • I've enabled the Online Subsystem Oculus plugin and restarted the engine.
  • In the Level Blueprint, I've added this logic to check for entitlement:

  • When I then hit to simulate in VR Preview, this is (part of) the output I get:
LogOnline: Display: Oculus: FOnlineSubsystemOculus::InitWithWindowsPlatform()
LogOnline: Warning: Oculus: Could not find 'RiftAppId' key in engine config.  Trying 'OculusAppId'.  Move your oculus app id to 'RiftAppId' to use in your rift app and make this warning go away.
LogOnline: Warning: Oculus: Missing OculusAppId key in OnlineSubsystemOculus of DefaultEngine.ini
LogOnline: Warning: Oculus: Oculus API failed to initialize!
LogOnline: Warning: Oculus: Oculus platform service not available. Skipping entitlement check.
LogBlueprintUserMessages: [TestLevel_C_0] Oculus Entitlement Failed

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong here. Can anyone help me?

    Hi, I know this has is quite an old thread - but I've been stuck trying to sort this for quite some time and cannot get my head around it or find any answers anywhere.  My errors are exactly the same as yours (on the Oculus build of 4.25) so I'm hoping you might be able to stop me going insane.  Thanks!

    Was there ever a resolution to this issue? I have followed all the steps on the Unreal Engine Entitlement guide as well as the steps laid out here and I'm still seeing-

    LogOnlineIdentity: Warning: Oculus: Failed Oculus login. Not currently logged into Oculus. Make sure Oculus is running and you are entitled to the app.

    -I ensured that my app id matches the one on my developer dashboard

    -I restarted Unreal after editing the Engine.ini

    -I enabled Unknown Sources

    -I logged out and back into both the oculus app and developer app

    -Reset my HMD

    Any info would be appreciated.

    These are the exact steps I'd taken.  I've even tried the three different AppId (Rift, Oculus and Gear) in the ini files as stated across many different inputs.

    Oculus are doing great expanding/improving everything - unfortunately it's left a lot of information out of date!  Like their guides all talk about hover over on their website for changing things with members - but there is no hover over menus on any of the dashboard anymore.  Once the documentation catches back up with their stuff they'll be incredible!

    Additional Information - I missed the step where you had recommended uploading a build to the release channel on the developer dashboard. I completed this step successfully but am still seeing the Failed entitlement check. I'm almost certain I must be doing something wrong but I'm at a loss here.

    I have all of this working now so I'm hoping I can help you out too!

    So I found that you can only get an entitlement check while launched/running on the headset itself - VR Preview does not allow this.

    You also need to have a folder in your Config/ called Android.  In that folder create a AndroidEngine.ini file and put this inside it:

    [OnlineSubsystem]
    DefaultPlatformService=Oculus

    My DefaultEngine.ini has all of these for Oculus too (having read through loads of contradictory stuff online)

    [OnlineSubsystem]
    DefaultPlatformService=Oculus
    bHasVoiceEnabled=true

    [OnlineSubsystemOculus]
    bEnabled=true
    OculusAppId=(appid)
    RiftAppId=(appid)
    GearVRAppId=(appid)

    [Voice]
    bEnabled=true

    I am now able to launch to the headset, with splash screens working, get the Oculus name for my account and also launch the main map from the menu without any crashing.  Just leaving me with a LOT of work to reduce material calls etc as I hadn't realised quite the extent of hardware limitations of playing without the link!

    If that doesn't work post back and I'll try and help get you to where I am.. knowing the frustrations!

    Hello!
    First of all thanks everyone for the very useful thread, as I stumbled upon the same problem here.
    However I would like confirmation by the Oculus team on this last one: the entitlement check can work only in the headset and not in editor preview? Even while being logged in to the Oculus App and successfully initializing the SDK?
    If so, well I know what I have to do, but it's not very convenient for quick iteration...
