UE4 QA 07_2014 (4.3) integration with Oculus SDK 0.4!

Hey guys,

Finally, it is here. Oculus SDK 0.4 integration with UE4 4.3 (July'14 QA) is released.
Licensees can download the integration package from our web-site (Developers -> Downloads). This integration will patch the codebase up to 4.3.1.
GitHub $19-subscribers can access it through https://github.com/Oculus-VR/UnrealEngine/tree/4.3 (also 4.3.1 changes are already applied).

Note, you'll need to install the latest 0.4 Runtime for this integration to work. Once you've installed the Runtime your previous UE4 + Oculus (0.3-based) will stop working, however, it is easy to restore its functionality by two simple steps:
1) Using the Oculus icon in the taskbar switch display mode to 'Extend Desktop';
2) Using the same icon, run the 'Configuration Utility', go to the 'Tools' -> 'Advanced' -> 'Pause Service...'. The service will be automatically restarted once you run 0.4-based app.

We are working with Epic to integrate this code to upcoming UE4 4.4, will see how it goes (can't promise anything; in worst case scenario we will provide our own integration for 4.4 as well).

Note, there are several known issues with this integration, the major ones are as follows:
1) OpenGL doesn't work in Windows (in both modes - "Direct HMD Access from Apps" and "Extend Desktop to HMD".
2) There is no timewarp on Mac; will be there in the next update.
3) If you have issues in "Direct HMD Access..." mode - switch to "Extend Desktop": we are still actively working on improving our display driver.

If you have any issues or questions - post them here, I'll try to monitor this thread regularly.

I thought I was going nuts. Ok thanks bud. I suppose I have to wait for my DK2.

I checked out and built the 4.3 branch of the editor and worked through a bunch of weird issues that were probably related to my inexperience with VS2013.

Now I'm unable to launch a Rift First Person template-based project. Says "Launch Failed" and in the output log, I see a few things of interest:

    Cmd: oculusdev on
    Command not recognized: oculusdev on
    Cmd: hmdwarp 1=1
    Command not recognized: hmdwarp 1=1
    Cmd: hmdwarp s=1.3
    Command not recognized: hmdwarp s=1.3
    Cmd: hmd sp 130.0
Command not recognized: hmd sp 130.0

    And:

    LogEpicStorage:Warning: EnumerateFiles request failed. Invalid response. code=403 error=<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Error><Code>AccessDenied</Code><Message>Access Denied</Message><RequestId>0CDABA133BF312BE</RequestId><HostId>ZVNnFdhl3EiEQpl/b+OQFOrzby44NHbwmJw+TGH6RB//nBnSQ+X4/IoZuaDI2IRW</HostId></Error>

I can launch the game directly from the .uproject file and I get a stereo view on the rift without proper distortion and no head tracking. My Oculus plugin appears to be enabled and says version 1.0.

    Any thoughts?

EDIT: Embracing the "It's probably my fault" approach and checking md5sums on the zip files, I discovered I must have accidentally downloaded the zips from somewhere other than 4.3.1. Maybe this will help, I'm not sure. I also apparently never explicitly checked out 4.3.1, just "4.3". Not sure if that'll make a difference, but I'm rebuilding the editor now.

EDIT: That seems to have cleared up the problem. We're in business!

As I said, there is a pretty big chance that 0.4.x integration will be in the upcoming UE4 4.4 out of the box. So, if you are not familiar with Visual Studio and building UE4 just wait till it is released.

Soooo UE 4.4 is officially out! (downloading now)

Any news if the Oculus 0.4.1 integration made it? Has anyone tried yet?

I guess time to go the GitHub route then..

Any chance to have the latest integration in a 4.4.1 hotfix artyom?

It works the same way for me. Ovrversion only works when my DK2 is plugged in and is being rendered to (with 'stereo on'). The behaviour is a bit confusing since it makes it look like the build has no OVR support or that the plugin is disabled. But it should work fine when you use it with the Rift.

This is because OculusRift plugin is unloaded if Rift is not connected. We probably will change this, since technically Rift could be plugged in later. Added to TODO list.

Great to hear, it's good to know that it isn't working because I don't have DK2 plugged in rather than it just not working at all.

Just FYI: all console commands are listed in UE4-Oculus.txt file (see the root directory of UnrealEngine integration).

Do we know when Oculus integration with UE 4.4 is going to be up on Github? I can only see 4.3 there at present.

I'm seeing 4.4 now but the linked release notes and blog post are 404's.
