Meta Quest build v41 release notes

These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of June 14th, 2022.

Meta Horizon Home

In this release we’re introducing early access to Meta Horizon Home; your personal VR social space. With your new home in VR, you'll now have a central place where you can seamlessly:

  • Invite friends and family over to hang out together as Avatars
  • Speak with one another using spatialized audio
  • Coordinate and group launch into supported multiplayer experiences together

Watch Oculus TV together with friends in Meta Horizon Home

We know that sharing things you love is a great way to spend time with friends and family, but distance can make that challenging. Defy distance and share experiences by watching Oculus TV together with friends in Meta Horizon Home, where you can do things like:

  • Host a virtual movie night for friends and check out feature films from Lionsgate
    • Note: Lionsgate films are available only in US
  • Travel to space and experience life on the International Space Station
  • Get a front row seat at an on-demand concert for you and your closest friends

Parental supervision

We’re launching our initial suite of parental supervision tools. Teens initiate the request for their parent or guardian to supervise their account. Parents can accept these requests from the Oculus mobile app. Once parental supervision is set up, parents can access the following features:

  • The parent will be able to block specific apps that may be inappropriate for their teen, thus preventing the teen from launching those apps. Apps that can be blocked include apps like web browsers and apps available on the Meta Quest Store
  • The parent will be able to approve their teen’s download or purchase of an app that is blocked by default based on its IARC rating
    • Teens 13+ can submit an app access request, which triggers a notification to their parent
    • The parent can then approve or deny the request from the Oculus mobile app
  • The parent will be able to view all of the apps their teen owns
  • The parent will be able to receive “Purchase Notifications,” alerting them when their teen makes a purchase in VR
  • The parent will be able to view headset screen time from the Oculus mobile app, so they’ll know how much time their teen is spending in VR
  • The parent will be able to view their teen’s list of Oculus friends
  • The parent will be able to block Link and Air Link, which will prevent their teen from accessing content from their PC on their Quest headset

Note that Parental Supervision tools will be rolling out gradually.

Link/Air Link Windows 11 beta support

We’ve improved performance and stability for using Link and Air Link with Windows 11 systems.

  • The console window workaround is no longer required

App Library filter and sort settings

We’ve added a new panel in Settings that lets you control your default filter and sort order within your app library.

  • This will be rolling out gradually

In-headset color

We've improved color accuracy for Oculus Home, System UI and other 2D panel apps for Meta Quest headsets. We've also provided a Color Space setting that allows you to choose how you want the colors to appear in your headset in these areas.

  • You can check out the new Color Space options in your Experimental Settings panel.

You can always find our release notes up to date on our support page here as well.

justmetoo  As usual, it usually takes a couple of weeks to rollout.  Even then, it sometimes another week or two to rollout all the new features.

Overall, v41 has been performing well.

Although, I did notice that AirLink isn't finding my PC on a couple occasions w/ the v41 (Quest2 and PC) update.  A simple headset reboot fixes the issues, but it has happened 3 times already.  A little annoying but nothing too big; just giving a heads up.

Some developers have noted that Quest 2's performance has been lowered with v40. I also noticed that general system (no game) is even laggy on some occasions.

Has v41 fixed it?

I noticed the same thing, I had the V36 and everything was fine and fluid, yesterday I updated to the V41 and the poor performance is noticeable when only being in the menu and explorer, in my case it is presenting stuttering and a bit of lag

I got v41 on my Q2/rtx3090 earlier today.  All seems to work fine with standalone and PCVR wireless with Air Link running Oculus, Steam, and VivePort apps.  I tried opting into the oculus desktop pc app beta v41 but I did not notice any improvements so I rolled it back to non-beta v40 for now.

I don't see any performance improvements but, on the other hand, I don't see any performance drops.  All running very smooth, as was v40.  I'm using latest win10 and nvidia (516,40) updates.  Cheers.

If your reply was to me, I was talking about quest 2's own performance, not airlink (PC performance). According to the dev, his users had lower FPS starting around may 23. Maybe because of the new passthrough or other useless features oculus is trying to push.

AzeezAncelo  No, I was not replying to you mate.  I’ve ran a few graphics intensive standalone games like UW2 and I don’t see any differences in performance.  I don’t use 120Hz experimental btw.  I think it would be more useful if you post your results after getting the v41 update.  Thanks and cheers.

Got v41 as Firmware and for Desktop-App as well... Win10/516.40@RTX2080.

First thing I noticed: the graphics quality for Air Link goes nuts... really ugly.

Up to now, I was going with the "standard setting" dynamic bitrate @100MBit.

With fixed bitrate @200MBit the graphics getting clear & sharp again...

(PC wired to router, HMD alone @5GHz, 5-10m away)

As a side-note... settings with ODT are:

- distortion curative: low

- encode resolution width: 3664

- mobile asw: enabled (fi)

I can live with that, but maybe someone from Meta/Oculus has a hint, of what's changed.

Buetigame  Not sure what your Q2 Air Link problem is?  For me, v41 looks fantastic.  I have a rtx3090 so that probably helps but I think you should get good results with your rtx2080 setup.  I'd suggest you try the following (some of which you are already doing);

ODT settings all defaults/zeros/auto except Pixel density = 1.0, distortion low, encoding width 3664, enable link sharpening, and leave mobile asw = auto.

With Oculus desktop app (I'm using the latest non-beta v40) dashboard set bitrate to 200mbps Dynamic (not fixed).  Device graphics set refresh to 80Hz and res slider as far right as your PC will allow.  With my 3090 I can take it full right.  With your 2080 you probably can take it to 1.1-1.2x (a few notches left).

If you feel that you must go to 90Hz refresh rates then you'll need to drop the res slider another notch or two left.  Although I can easily use 90Hz refresh with the res slider full right I don't see any visual improvements (actually just a few more stutters/artifacts) going higher than 80Hz (same refresh rate as Rift S btw) with all my games/sims.  And if you want decent graphics with min stuttering/artifacts steer clear of 120Hz imho.

Nvidia (I'm also using 516.40) set nvidia control panel 3d setting to all defaults except power prefer max performance and below that change default Quality to Performance (not high performance).

Win10 settings; hardware acceleration graphics disabled and turn Game mode off.

SteamVR (I'm using the latest beta) set all visuals manually to 100% and disable advanced super sample filtering.

Anyway, give these settings a go with Air Link and see how you go mate.  Cheers.

TomCgcmfc Thanks for your tips and advises, already known and for long time used. But "something" happened  with the change from v40 to v41 (maybe only with the change of the Desktop-App to v41, who knows?). I'll try changing the dynamic bitrate to 200MBit... but I think, it's the "dynamic" which won't work as before... looks like it uses 1MBit oder 10MBit at maximum, not the maximum possible.

Noooo! PC app became v41 by default. PC app v41 has wired Link 500Mbps limitation (we can use 960Mbps until v40) & actual bitrate is much lower than 500Mbps. Much more noisy & blurry. I told Meta software engineer about the problem when v41 PTC came out. She said the problem was unintentional. I hope Meta fix the problem soon.

Install V41 well, however, no way to use Horizon Home, this functionality is not deployed for everyone? A friend also has the V41 impossible to invite himself into the home

We’re you able to fix this issue?

No. And occulus support has been **bleep**ing weird with no indication how to fix it.

Hello I have version 41 and there is no application called horizon home. How do I utilize horizon home? I really want to use this feature but there is no prompt no indication of access to this feature through the toolbar or any system preferences.

I'm not a big fan of social media so I cannot say if v41 has effected this.  Otherwise v41 seems ok for me.

This update's been the single most destructive one in years. Competetive Beat Saber is impossible since this introduced a huge lag spike every 30~ seconds.

Perfectly in time for the annual World Cup.. Please hotfix!

I confirm. After 10-20 minutes of playing via link/airlink, constant delays appear every 40-60 seconds, which spoils fast-paced games like Beat Saber. The longer you play, the stronger they become.

The Quest 2 v41 update (41.0.0.124) fixed the issue. There are no more lags when playing via the link. Thanks for the quick resolve! 😊

Fixed it? That's the update that broke it. I just checked and I'm still on 41.0.0.124 - with huge lag spikes every 30-40 seconds.

When I plug the Rift S in (Which is trash in every other way sadly) there's no lag at all.
