Meta Quest build v41 release notes

These features and enhancements will become available starting the week of June 14th, 2022.

Meta Horizon Home

In this release we’re introducing early access to Meta Horizon Home; your personal VR social space. With your new home in VR, you'll now have a central place where you can seamlessly:

  • Invite friends and family over to hang out together as Avatars
  • Speak with one another using spatialized audio
  • Coordinate and group launch into supported multiplayer experiences together

Watch Oculus TV together with friends in Meta Horizon Home

We know that sharing things you love is a great way to spend time with friends and family, but distance can make that challenging. Defy distance and share experiences by watching Oculus TV together with friends in Meta Horizon Home, where you can do things like:

  • Host a virtual movie night for friends and check out feature films from Lionsgate
    • Note: Lionsgate films are available only in US
  • Travel to space and experience life on the International Space Station
  • Get a front row seat at an on-demand concert for you and your closest friends

Parental supervision

We’re launching our initial suite of parental supervision tools. Teens initiate the request for their parent or guardian to supervise their account. Parents can accept these requests from the Oculus mobile app. Once parental supervision is set up, parents can access the following features:

  • The parent will be able to block specific apps that may be inappropriate for their teen, thus preventing the teen from launching those apps. Apps that can be blocked include apps like web browsers and apps available on the Meta Quest Store
  • The parent will be able to approve their teen’s download or purchase of an app that is blocked by default based on its IARC rating
    • Teens 13+ can submit an app access request, which triggers a notification to their parent
    • The parent can then approve or deny the request from the Oculus mobile app
  • The parent will be able to view all of the apps their teen owns
  • The parent will be able to receive “Purchase Notifications,” alerting them when their teen makes a purchase in VR
  • The parent will be able to view headset screen time from the Oculus mobile app, so they’ll know how much time their teen is spending in VR
  • The parent will be able to view their teen’s list of Oculus friends
  • The parent will be able to block Link and Air Link, which will prevent their teen from accessing content from their PC on their Quest headset

Note that Parental Supervision tools will be rolling out gradually.

Link/Air Link Windows 11 beta support

We’ve improved performance and stability for using Link and Air Link with Windows 11 systems.

  • The console window workaround is no longer required

App Library filter and sort settings

We’ve added a new panel in Settings that lets you control your default filter and sort order within your app library.

  • This will be rolling out gradually

In-headset color

We've improved color accuracy for Oculus Home, System UI and other 2D panel apps for Meta Quest headsets. We've also provided a Color Space setting that allows you to choose how you want the colors to appear in your headset in these areas.

  • You can check out the new Color Space options in your Experimental Settings panel.

You can always find our release notes up to date on our support page here as well.

I don't know if it's just me, but I just bought the quest2 and I was playing with the V36 version and everything was fine, I found that I could update to the first V41 (41.0.0.113) and after that, I have delays and stuttering in the menu and in (Beat Saber/ kizuna ai - touch the beat) , also my left controller now has drift. The strangest thing is that it does not seem to be a hardware failure because the drift appears and disappears out of nowhere for a while and goes from the left controller to the right (although it persists more on the left) I have not even used quest 2 for a month and I have all these problems that don't let me play well.....

Ryanality Ok so I have the v41 update but do not see or know how to invite someone to my home. Can you show me?

I'm not able to find any information on the Quest 2 on how to actually find/launch or use Horizon Home with v41. I see others in this topic are having similar issues.  Are we missing something?

I see the move points in the new awfully designed home spaces but see no indication of horizon home.

Same. There is nothing about how to do this any where. They just keep saying it is available.

3 weeks? But I don't get "App Library filter and sort settings".

The App Library filter & sort settings is located inside the Personalization tab in Settings. This feature rolled out gradually for me because it wasn't there when I first updated to v41. I think it may have shown up like a week later after the update. With all that said, I still don't have Horizon Homes yet where you can invite others to your home space. Hopefully sometime this week maybe?

Some things I noticed after 41 update:

- Black Hands pointing BACKWARDS appear holding controllers when first started.  Menus etc. can be selected correctly with the beam of controller light pointing correctly, but the backwards hands are annoying.  Hands point the right way in LINK and in Applications that use Hand Tracking.

-When connecting to LINK (Cable) I no longer get the popup for  ALLOW or DENY ACCESS TO DATA, and there is no icon available on PC to allow file transfer

- When connected to LINK, there is no longer a "Wristwatch" on the left virtual wrist (Setting is turned ON in Experimental)

I've seen some of these (backwards Hands) reported elsewhere, but didn't see them listed as known issues in the SUPPORT thread.

I got V42 now. I can report that the Black Hands point in the right direction now.

- Still no Wristwatch when LINKED

- Still no option to allow File Transfer.

Are we now restricted to just 1 guardian in memory?

MystaMagoo  Seems that way to me mate.  I only use stationary guardian and usually have 2x play areas which used to be remembered.  Since v41 every time I switch play areas I need to redo this.  Only takes about 15 seconds to redo but not something I needed to do before v41.

I know this is unrelated but will we get support for the 3050 ti graphics card?

Minor update to v41 yesterday. I noticed Air Link moved from experimental settings to Link in System Settings.

When you open the Quick Settings - Link there is a switch to use Air Link.

When switching to Cable to Air Link you have to pair the headset every time. It would be nice if you only had to pair the headset to the computer once until you delete the pairing.

NomadsAnIsland  Ya, I also got the minor update/rollout (not like a major update requiring a restart) yesterday and this also took Air Link out of the experimental and added a quest link option in the system settings.  I also got some message that Messenger was signed in, but I don't really know what that does?  Still shows same v41 on Quest and I'm using non-beta v41 on the Oculus Desktop pc app.

I needed to pair again and got the message that my Air Link connection was poor.  Going back to the quest link page it showed everything ok except my network said it was 70ms latency.  I have the recommended router/wifi setup and my Q2/rtx3090 has always worked very well with both Link and Air Link (using 200mbps dynamic bitrate btw).  It still does work fine with Air Link but if I monitor the HUD/Performance I do see that my overall latency is about 10ms higher than it was compared to the previous v40 update (I sent Meta a bug report on this a couple of weeks ago).  I used to see 40-50ms latency and now see 50-60ms.  Still looks ok to me though.  Probably thanks to the fast encoders on my rtx3090.  Who knows?  Also, if I monitor my bitrate with win10 task manager I see that although I've selected 200mbps dynamic it generally starts off at about 80mbps and slowly increases to about 120mbps.  In the past this has generally been in the range of 145-165mbps.  So, not sure what's going on here?  I'm guessing that the quest link test feature isn't reporting this correctly.

I haven't tried Virtual Desktop in a while so I reinstalled it (plus the streamer app) and it showed that all latency was well within recommended limits, as were my connection speeds (866mbps with wifi5 and 150mbps bitrate).  Actually showed that my network latency in games was 4-5ms.  Total latency with my Oculus and Steam games all seem to be in the 40-50ms total latency range.  I did notice a few SteamVR games like MOH and HLA did seem to run a little smoother but for the most part I could not tell much difference and I still prefer using Air Link because it is fully compatible with all my games, especially VivePort games.  VD always has had problems running these and the Developer (Guy) told me he hasn't been able to properly interface with VivePort yet.

I understand that Meta is looking into the v41 Air Link Latency issues so hopefully we'll see some improvements with v42.  I still have not seen the v41 rollout that lets you show a default app layout yet btw.

Strange, settings reverted to Air Link in Experimental settings. I too was getting 70ms network latency being reported. Nothing else indicated this was correct. Maybe why this change went away.

Me too. Some people report Link setting returned to experimental from system. And stranely my version is still v41.

BTW, 70ms is a bug. Many people are the same.

Well, the phone app and desktop app (Link) have both updated for v42 so it's just a matter of time before the headset updates to v42. Be interesting to see where the Link settings end up after the update.
