PTC v54 Release Megathread

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v54 is starting to roll out for Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2. Thanks everyone for all your feedback!  

Let's use this thread for collecting feedback on v54. Share your impressions and let us know if you see any issues. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting here if you notice anything going wrong.

      This morning I wanted to customise the 360 degree picture of the Home horizon. I downloaded two photos from the Mac, converted them to png, uploaded them to the Quest, just to be sure I restarted the Quest... now I have the horizon picker in the personalisation options, but I no longer have the option for its experimental feature (so it doesn’t work anymore).

        Updated PC app and headset to new version. Q2 controllers connected fast. I will check Pro controllers tomorrow after I get the replacement controller for the one that was messed up with a previous firmware update.

        The main menus are now only able to be repositioned if you hover outside each one until a translucent border appears that you can click on and drag them around. 

        The bottom toolbar is no longer able to be used for this. IF you don't have a specific section open, the toolbar can't be moved at all.

        The search icon on the main toolbar doesn't open any functions/work. 

        Settings\Personalization\App Library setting to show Installed apps still doesn't work. Selected different option, reselected installed and exited settings. All apps are still shown in the App Library section.

        Others have mentioned an ability to change the Skybox picture under experimental features, but I don't have that option. Is it limited to the Q Pro?

        Bluetooth option is now on the main menu, lay down mode is no longer available.

        Still can't resize the main menu windows like a previous version had. TV app seems to show more videos/smaller images than before. I seem to remember only 2 showing and now I think 3-4 may appear with top of lower row in sight.

        Shutdown screen how has the option setting to allow updates before shutdown or not. An update screen then appears saying headset is updating before it shuts down.

        We'll see what else I find later.

          been having wifi 6e drops pretty constant. I put in a support request with Meta and they confirmed that wifi 6 is not ready for prime time and only partially supported via the PTC. It gave me peace of mind that I was not losing my mind. For now i would avoid wifi 6e connectivity, or buying a $600 router like I did just for your quest pro. All good, will wait patiently.

            So with PTC v54 I have no major issue but sometimes the headset takes forever to found the Wifi6e  network. When going in wifi, the headset finds every wifi 5/6 (2.4/5Ghz) networks... but the 6GHz one that is actually reserved for the headset appears sometimes after a few minutes.

              once it finds your wifi 6e network, it does not disconnect? mine seems to find it in a decent amount of time, but will drop the connection and then wont find it for a few minutes. i have just been using my wifi6(5ghz band) and hoping it gets fixed soon. Running out of time on my window to return my wifi6e router. What router are you using to stay connected? I have the Asus GT-AXE16000 but am happy to go another direction for a working solution.

              I dont remember having the exact same issue on v53. I hate no release notes to know what is being focussed on.

                Just purchased the netgear RAXE500 to see if it does a better job. One of them is going back, one of them will stay with me. I hear people are not having issues with that particular router. The Asus router is nice, but maybe some other issues the quest does not like. Will update on Saturday.

                  Im still having the controller disconnects evey few minutes for a second what more users reported after the controller updates on ptc53 release . any update on that issue ?

                    This is caused by connecting headset to a Wi-Fi 5 network and its particular setting. There are several workarounds for this issue:

                    • don't connect your headset to a Wi-Fi network
                    • connect it to Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz network
                    • for me setting Wi-Fi 5 network to a channel 40 and channel width 40 MHz solved this issue even while connecting to Wi-Fi 5 network (but the speed is not the best)

                      Thx for youre response. I dont have a wifi 5 network.

                      I have wifi 6E with 6ghz enabled . The pro doesnt see the 6ghz here (have it under a different ssid and doesnt show up on the headset) but its on 5Ghz wifi 6 network. Also changed from auto to manual channels and changed but that doesnt resolve it either…

                      channel bandwith on wifi6 defaults to 160mhz only option i have is 80mhz and also doesnt resolve it. 40Mhz is no option since this isnt supported on wifi 6 by most accesspoints

                       

                      A headset without wifi is useless to me just as controllers that glitch every minute . i only play online games 🤨

                       

                      Hope meta fixes this soon since 53 already went to stable channel .

                      mailed Meta support but they never reply or answer any support question other then a really broken headset that needs replacement within warranty.

                      Until now the pro has been a real disappointment in updates mostly because they price and promote it as a pro business headset.

                        I received an update yesterday. One difference is that the GPU usage is higher than before the update. As an example, in my current Unity game, the GPU usage increased from 38% to 57% for the same position in the game. The main Quest lobby shows higher GPU usage as well. Hopefully this increase in inefficiency is only temporary.

                          so since v51 release the startDragAndDrop function does not work with multiple apps that i use the apis have been updated and they still no longer function as intended.

                          This is an issue that is specifically on the quest it seems as they all work fine on other android devices.

                          Tested on:  2 x pico devices 2x android tablets and 3x phones all with no startDragAndDrop problems and working as intended
