Updates to Your Meta Quest Experience in 2026

Earlier this year, we shared an update on our renewed focus for VR and Horizon. We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience. This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app. To support this vision, we are making the following changes to streamline your Quest experience throughout 2026.

  • Meta Horizon Worlds: By March 31, 2026, Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Store on Quest. Also, Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay worlds will no longer be available in VR. You can still jump into your other favorite worlds in VR until June 15, 2026, after which the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR. After June 15, you can jump into all your favorite mobile-optimized worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  • Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta): By March 24, 2026, viewing Hyperscape captures is moving out of Horizon Worlds. Your existing captures will remain viewable within the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app and the companion Preview app, which are available in your Quest app library. You can continue capturing new Hyperscapes, but sharing, inviting, and co-experiencing Hyperscapes with others will no longer be supported.
  • Meta Horizon Plus (MH+) Perks: By March 31, 2026, Horizon-specific perks — including Meta Credits, Digital Clothing, Avatars and In-World Purchases — will be removed from the subscription. Your core MH+ gaming benefits and monthly games will not be affected.

We continue to invest in making your Quest experience better — recent updates have brought new features like Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, customizable app and window positioning, and we're continuing to roll out Navigator, our modernized interface, to more users.

I have mixed feelings about all this. I love the concept of Horizon Worlds(minus the wanton amount of 8 year olds screaming profanities every time I jumped in there). There is really no other social type environment like it. I've been on VRChat for about three weeks now and it does not feel the same at all, although it does have cool features and deserves recognition.

I like that the CTO announced that HW would be an app instead, although I'm worried it would still kill the personalized aspect of avatar clothing. I particularly loved the concept of avatar skins. I play Golf+ and several other games and love that I can wear my own clothing in them. I loved it so much that I joined the creator program and made my own avatar clothing to sell and a few months ago, launched my own clothing store here.  I loved the feedback I got for the uniqueness of my designs, started building some traffic and watched my traffic double and triple. I put in some serious time and effort to create clothing, create the store and create the community. It sucks to see that all go away after all the time and effort. I seem to be constantly on the tail end of things because just as I started a good workout habit on my Quest 3 with Supernatural, the news came out like two weeks later.

I get that a lot of us really just wanted Meta to focus on games and games only, but when it comes to VR, I feel like skys the limit and why stick to just that? I do understand the financial loss to them as a company though and hope they can at least allow us to keep the personalization component of owning a VR headset. It's a home away from home and it was such a cool thing to have your personalized home environment and a closet full of your own clothing. It feels so unique and special. Meta still has a shot at making this right with some good changes such as implementing some sort of age grouping system so that us older folks don't have to mingle with the screaming 8 year olds, they can be grouped up with their own easily if Meta placed some settings there. I enjoyed the concerts, some of the games such as Kaiju were made really well and were fun to play, along with Soapstone Comedy club and a few more. The clothing mall was decent and I liked that many people were able to showcase their creations.

Meta, listen to your users. It sounds like you have too many folks on your end giving input that doesn't really match what your users are really asking for. I'm not saying my opinions represent the majority, but we can all agree that on our end, it looks like your house isn't in order. It looks like you're chasing the Roblox or Minecraft crowd, which won't work with a VR crowd who may be craving immersive content and cutting edge graphics. Unless you plan to shove a Horizon OS in those Raybans real soon, concentrate on your midcore gamers. Perhaps throw some of that money into whatever department is responsible for engaging with us through surveys and the link and it would help steer you in a good direction, because every time you pivot like this, you lose a good chunk of us!!!

Fix the app store so that we can better filter what we want. It sucks sifting through so much crap.

Oh, and maybe work on having a catalog of 3D movie titles that we can rent or purchase. Why has this not happened already?!?

I have so many ideas, but it would just fall on deaf ears at this point. But My ideal vision would be to fire it up, arrive in my own home environment, hopefully see some movable objects that i can make or purchase that I  interact with like a lamp, table, record player(think Sims), a closet of clothes I can choose from and a menu of apps and games with the ability to keep my avatar just I do in Golf+. Maybe I don't wanna jump into a game, so I'll just chill in my environment, listen to music, engage with the objects in my home environment like and arcade game or console(like in first steps or first encounters i think?) , Invite someone from my friends list to visit my home environment, have a seat on my new couch i bought from the store, watch a 3d(or 2d) movie(like Bigscreen) with a few simple clicks or finally jump into a game or app from the menu. Make it immersive, allow us to customize and personalize the experience. Just like home. Let us choose, don't shove it on us!

I learned not to get too attached after playing Line Play for 7 years, and they shut down. Everything people had bought was suddenly gone, and some people had spent a ridiculous amount of money. They didn't even allow people to download their games so they could play it offline.

One worrisome thing is all the children who were playing in the Metaverse who will be devastated, as for some of them, this was their world, and they may not have the tools to cope as an adult can. In addition, it was not a safe place for kids anyway so in that way its probably for the best. I would sometimes come into room, and there would be high schoolers bullying elementary schoolers. Some parents really were not keeping track of their kids it was like the wild west out there. I feel if there is any space where Adults and children interact unsupervised, they need to try A LOT harder to separate the two.

It's been pretty obvious for a while that they don't care about anyone's mental health, even when it is ethically wrong; it takes the government to step in to police these Tech Bros. They operate on a ask for forgiveness not seek permission mindset that puts profits over people.

It's not the governments job to parent people's children. It's also not fair to punish other people because someone else decided to lay down and make a kid and then not raise it properly.

I didnt pay 500 bucks so I can have this trash on my headset. Worlds is junk that litters my device. It is, hands down, the worst part of meta. Since when does a developer bow down to a child being heart broken about a feature? Im heart broken that I have to deal with this annoying,  non-removable app.  This is bloatware. Plain and simple.

originalgamer13 Totally agree. The vast majority of us never wanted it. There are only around 40 people complaining that it's gone here, that's how unpopular it was. Glad it's going to be mostly gone.

LMAO you're gonna get a rude awakening when they exit the headset space altogether and you think back to this announcement and how giddy you were. Meta is not a gaming hardware company and will not stick around developing and building hardware only.

It figures that, soon after I purchase a yearly subscription, that this would happen.  So, does this mean that my year subscription is meaningless now?  I did NOT hear about this closure when I purchased the yearly subscription.  It was slightly before the closure announcement was made.  If so, will I be credited for the time I WON'T get to use?

SAVEVR meta what about us Creators Builders that made this platform?
June 15th means we will no longer be able to update our current worlds?
boztank help these fools

Starting June 15, 2026, you will no longer be able to build, publish or update VR worlds.
In addition, you will no longer be able to access Meta Horizon Worlds on Meta Quest headsets.
After this date, you can continue to enjoy worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.

OK, let’s get real for a second! We know who Meta supports and we know the mind frame of people that they are backing. So I’ll be honest with you, none of us should be supporting their products. We’re only doing it because it’s one of the best VR experiences on the planet. But they have a terrible business model when it comes down to customer satisfaction.

We really shouldn’t be surprised that they would make a decision like this regarding Meta Horizon Worlds. Don’t lose your mind if Mark decides to kill the whole VR division. And everyone who’s invested in this experience will feel the loss. I can only advise that once that happens, take it completely off of Wi-Fi and use it locally so that way they can’t pull all your purchased games off of the Quest. Anything that requires to be online won’t work once your VR headset is taken off of the network.

So let me be clear! Taking Meta Horizon Worlds out of VR is a completely stupid idea. No one and I mean no one will use this app on just a mobile basis. The experience was unique to VR users with mobile access to be more of a companion rather than a riveting experience. I do hope that Meta learned from this mistake and put everything back the way it should be.

They have completely lost their trust in Meta with this. It was the same back then with Sony PlayStation Home. I won’t invest another cent. Especially now, I had the impression that it was getting more and more crowded with people having fun.
