Earlier this year, we shared an update on our renewed focus for VR and Horizon. We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience. This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app. To support this vision, we are making the following changes to streamline your Quest experience throughout 2026.

  • Meta Horizon Worlds: By March 31, 2026, Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Store on Quest. Also, Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay worlds will no longer be available in VR. You can still jump into your other favorite worlds in VR until June 15, 2026, after which the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR. After June 15, you can jump into all your favorite mobile-optimized worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  • Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta): By March 24, 2026, viewing Hyperscape captures is moving out of Horizon Worlds. Your existing captures will remain viewable within the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app and the companion Preview app, which are available in your Quest app library. You can continue capturing new Hyperscapes, but sharing, inviting, and co-experiencing Hyperscapes with others will no longer be supported.
  • Meta Horizon Plus (MH+) Perks: By March 31, 2026, Horizon-specific perks β€” including Meta Credits, Digital Clothing, Avatars and In-World Purchases β€” will be removed from the subscription. Your core MH+ gaming benefits and monthly games will not be affected.

We continue to invest in making your Quest experience better β€” recent updates have brought new features like Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, customizable app and window positioning, and we're continuing to roll out Navigator, our modernized interface, to more users.

I wasn't expecting it to be completely take off. Thats a surprise. I never liked it and never will so it can only affect me positively. Hope they bring back virtual home environments as well. Even if just optional. Its crazy to remove such a historical feature from quest.

I HOPE YOUR MOBILE FAIL, THERE ARE A lot of builders and creators who were in horizon, and we have been cheated out of what we do . People have invested in headsets, and they love the virtual reality of building in them. What a shame, it's all about the money . Utopia VR is where I'm going.

META treats people like avatars. The fact that people have invested time and money is irrelevant to them. Microsoft did the same thing, shutting down the ALTSPACE platform and then preventing the installation of Mixed Reality for STEAM, rendering the HP Reverb G2 headset useless. Will it be the same at META? Do large companies have to be so arrogant towards their users?

Utopia VR is an interesting solution. The Quest works quite well on the ROBLOX platform.

All the bestπŸ˜€

Note that Samsung and Google just created Android XR and the Samsung Galaxy XR; Apple created the AVP for developers to play with; others are rumored to be creating new headsets; AR glasses seem to be increasing in popularity; and AI will make 3D XR application coding easier and the applications more complex and more capable and more interesting. META has not (not yet, I hope) ended their efforts to create a new communications device to replace the smart phone, they have just cancelled v 01 of the operations environment. (Windows itself was useless until V 03.)

Sadly it looks like the most advanced and capable VR platform is abandoning it's community public forum.
I know they have been having less than stellar profits and mixed VR hasn't lived up to hopes yet because it needs really significant technical advances to go mainstream, but they are getting close to having something actually worthwhile.
And the Horizon Worlds platform seemed a great first effort to actually get a global community involved. :(

This is horrible news. The gaming experience in the app is awful compared to the headset experience.

What became of the cyber Utopia envisioned in Ready Player One? A key aspect of that novel was the users ability (and rite-of-passage) was programming their own clubs and hangouts (notably H’s Basement) where friends could gather to socialize.
The sandbox that Horizon Worlds provides for budding programmers and just people who want to hang out will be sorely missed and a feature I hope is reinstated.

This feels painful. While I never liked how Horizon Worlds cluttered up the UI with its "worlds as apps/games" approach, I did enjoy some of the experiences I had in HW. And my tween absolutely enjoyed Bobber Bay and Kaiju. Moreover, he's the sort to take it quite hard when unexpected changes arrive - when the Home space was revamped about 6 months ago, that was upsetting too.

I wonder if there exists research on VR nostalgia or even grief reactions by players; the power of VR is that we trick our brains into feeling like we're there but the more real feeling we make everything, the more real those feelings of loss are when things are taken away.

@FashionablyAngelo The Quest headsets main function is playing VR games that you can choose from the very large Meta Store and also on PCVR if you want to play Steam games. It still does exactly that. The other stuff is ancillary and not related to VR gaming. So don't worry about it. πŸ˜‰

LexiTree You make a good point. I do think that if one is getting overly sad and feels a sense of loss regarding the end of some features on a device, it's probably time to stop or at the least reduce exposure particularly for your child. Young people need to be careful not to lose the sense of reality by confusing it with a virtual world. It's important that they have real human friends and get involved in physical activities like sports, and not virtual sports. A sense of grief for the loss of a fantasy world isn't healthy. I appreciate you asking this question. Definitely food for thought for the parents here.

I guess, there are some people who will be happy about that. πŸ™ƒ Already existing worlds remains in vr.

I'm happy but will probably phase myself out slowly.  I'll be staying in Bobber Bay. I do wish they'd make it optional to completely delete since there's so many who don't want it.

IndigoMint  as far as I understand it, it will completely deleted and those who want it, can download the Horizon world app and use it. But it won't be longer automatically part of the library. πŸ™ƒ
