1 of 2 Quest 3 headsets not charging

I bought 2 quest 3 headsets for my kids this past summer and 1 of them doesn't charge anymore, the other one still charges and works but the one that isn't charging, is there a repair center or someplace i can get it fixed at?

    Hey there Maxteamboss!

Thanks for letting us know you're having issues with one of the Quest 3's you purchased, we'd love to help you out with this!

    Here's some steps and information:

    • The headset should charge in about 2 hours if using the provided power adapter (included in the box) to charge the headset from a wall outlet. The performance of third-party adapters cannot be guaranteed, even if they appear to be like the official adapter. We advise that users should always use the power adapter included in the box to charge the Headset.
    • Check that the problem is not caused by improper charging methods.
    • Ensure you're using the provided power adapter to charge the headset.
    • Note: Apple product chargers will not work with Quest 3.
    • If the headset feels warm to the touch. You may not have noticed the Stopped charging notification. If this is the case, you need to disconnect the charging cable and allow the headset to cool before trying to charge the headset again.
    • Remove any unsupported third-party accessories that may affect battery charging or consume power (such as external battery packs, external fans, etc.)
    • Attempt to charge the headset for 2 hours.
    • When used, Quest 3 will consume power faster than it can charge. The headset must be left powered off or in a sleep state during charging.
    • Computer USB ports will not provide sufficient power to charge the Quest 3, resulting in a very slow charge or failure to charge at all. The headset must be connected to a wall outlet using the provided power adapter
    • We suggest trying the charging cable for the other Quest you have to ensure it's not a charging cable issue.

If you've tried the steps above and this doesn't fix your issue, we'd ask if you can contact us privately so we can have direct contact with you and work out a solution to your charging issue, please see below on how to contact us privately:

If your headset is out of warranty contact "Fix My Oculus" if you're in the US. He has a top class reputation. You can find his channel on YouTube and see his contact details there. He has a lot of repair videos too such as battery replacement etc. Good luck!

But......if it's still in warranty talk to Meta first, but beware,, they can be very very slow at repairing and returning your headset and you might get a refurbished one which isn't as new as yours. There is no problem and they work perfectly but just so you are aware.

  • Because meta support won't admit this is a recurring problem, they never tell you the fix.

If the headset that is "not charging" shows the battery icon with 4 dots and the 0% text, unplug the charger, attempt to turn on the headset, doing so will finally completely drain the battery.

Once the battery is fully drained you can plug the charger back in, the screen should show a battery icon with a lightning bolt in it, completely unique from the normal charging screen. From here the headset should charge normally.

This issue is happening because something with the firmware updates has caused a bug where the light sensor randomly decides its going to permanently stay on but also drain an immense amount of power. When the headset dies completely it acts as a hard reset and the sensors are forced off properly.

DetraProtoReal That's good to know. Haven't seen that problem but enough people do. Might be a good idea to post this as a possible solution in a separate thread so people will see it. 👍👍👍👍 The OP is 5 months old, so a new thread will be a good idea. Thanks for sharing!
