Aaaargh!!! Another Black Screen!

WTF is up with these things? I bought a Quest 3 in December 2024. I'm not a heavy user. The most I do is watch the occasional movie or use Supernatural for fitness about three times a week. I've had to RMA the one I originally bought because of the "Unable to find location" error.  They sent me a refurb and, after about two weeks, it went black screen after an update. RMA'd that one and got another. That one was working fine. Until today... I turned it on ready to get some exercise and?... ANOTHER FREAKING BLACK SCREEN!!! Everything was fine two days ago. No weirdness that would signal things about to go wrong. Just dead. Tried factory reset, sideboard update, blah, blah, blah. Still dead! Needless to say, I'm royally pissed off right now. How could Meta sell such a colossal piece of 💩!  I dread what's going to happen when my warranty expires. I feel like this was a huge waste of $500.  And I'm super disappointed. I really like playing games and watching movies in VR. But it is so not worth dropping another $500.

I guess I'm here more to vent than anything. I mean, if someone has a solution, that would be great. I'm just so tired of freaking RMA'ing this garbage device.

  • Hi MandarkXX 🙂

    Your frustration is completely understandable.

It could be caused by sweat getting into the headset.
Heavy user or not... depending on how much you sweat, working out 3 times a week is probably enough to cause this.
    Many users experience this problem.

To avoid this problem, a breathable or open facial interface can be helpful.

Thank you for the reply.  However, I've taken that into account.  When I use Supernatural, I have a faceplate with a built in fan.  I also wear a headband and wipe down all padding and inspect the inside to see if there is any sweat inside the unit.  There never is.  Maybe a little around the nose area, but that's it and it on the rubber so I don't see how it can get in.  If that's all it takes, that's not a very good design at all.  Especially because Supernatural is a owned by Meta and promoted by them.

I checked your links and yeah... both very enlightening and disappointing.  Thanks!

        Agree.
Since the Quest is advised for doing exercise, a breathable/open facial interface should be in the box..... or at least a suggestion to use one.
Just my opinion..... and I guess, there is a reason that Meta has designed these interfaces.
They came only after so many people had issues with sweat.😉

I don't know, if sweat is the issue in your case, but is was/is it for so many other users, so I just wanna let you know.
