Accessing Steam VR

I have been trying to access my Steam games on my PC but when I click on SteamVR in the Quest 3 headset it just puts up a window that says "Playing" and it just keeps clocking.  I have a i9-12900k with a new RTX5070 and I am using the Meta LINK cable.   I also tried starting non-Steam DCS but it just keeps loading and loading and loading.  I can't even get Starwars Squadrons to  show in my library.

Sure would appreciate some help.

Firstly, and this is very important, in your Windows settings, select System->Display->Graphics->Advanced graphics settings, and then make sure that "Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling" is DISABLED. If enabled, it will cause streaming games to your headset for certain games to fail, especially if using SteamLink.

If you are using QuestLink to connect to the PC, you can try using either the Quest OpenXR runtime or the Steam OpenXR runtime and see if one works best.

To use the Quest's Open XR runtime, right-click the Meta Quest Link's icon in the system tray (the MetaQuestLink app must be running of course) and select Settings. Then select the General tab and under "OpenXR Runtime" click the button "Set Meta Quest Link as the active OpenXR runtime" (if the button is greyed out, then it means it is already active). To run your game, you must have Steam open on your PC and then also run SteamVR. If you see a message that "SteamVR is not the active OpenXR runtime", ignore it. Start your game and see if it works. If it doesn't work, close the game, then in the SteamVR app on the PC, click the "three horizontal bars" icon in the top left corner of the app and select Settings. Then click "OpenXR" and then click "SET STEAMVR AS OPENXR RUNTIME". Now close and re-open Steam VR. Now try running your game again.

Shooter666  are you able to try SteamLink or Virtual desktop as meta link is having more problems that they can deal with.

Tried both.  The virtual desktop won’t start either.  It ask me to press the Enter button on the keyboard, which I do but nothing happens.  I have tried launching SteamVR from my PC and/or from the headset.  Nothing will launch.  I’m almost ready to throw this thing in the garbage and go with Pimax.  So many things don’t appear to work properly.  Just to be sure,  I checked all the drivers and software on both headset and PC to ensure they’re all current

Shooter666 how do you have your router set up/connected to your PC.

Is it a recent windows install?

  • Shooter666  First thing to do is make sure you've gone through the meta-link pc app settings/device/setup process and then run a usb speed test (may need to do this a few times to get a proper result).  Your usb speed test should be around 2.4Gbps or better.  Also, go to settings/general tab and select oculus as your default openxr runtime and also enable other non-meta apps.  Afterwards try a meta link app (maybe download a free one) and test if this works ok or not.

After you actually get Link working ok try SteamVR again.  Set your steamVR settings/video manually (not auto) to 100%.  Also go to general and disable steamVR home.  This should launch you into the SteamVR void where you can select your steam apps.

If you continue to have issues you may want to contact steam support.  Soometimes, reinstalling Steam helps.

Other things I've found work well for fixing Link issues include;  disconnect any unnecessary usb devices so you don't run out of usb bandwidth, go to your windows graphics settings and disable hardware acceleration graphics (HAGS, requires restart) and turn game mode off.  Go to nvidia control panel global 3d settings and select all defaults except power = prefer max performance.  Go to windows device manager usb connections and right click/properties on each of these.  If there is a power tab, make sure to disable any power savings options.

Anyway, maybe give these all a go and wee how you make out.  You may also want to do a little more google research on troubleshooting Link and search youtube for link tutorials.  I've used Link fir quite a few years and it continues to work very well.  Good luck mate and cheers.

I'm not sure where the "meta-link pc app settings/device/setup" is located.  I have a "Meta Quest Link" icon on my PC's screen but it only allows access to "devices"  and from there it takes me to a screen that shows my headset.  There is realy nothing else to click at that point. I should also mention that I do have a link to my PC.  I know this because the browser on my PC can be displayed on my headset.   Its "SteamVR" that appears to be where the link doesn't want to work.

      Quest is burning,

      Virtual firemen
      Glitching through the doorway,
      Lagging hard,

      Headset screaming,
      Fans are wheezing,
      Frames are dropping,

      Unplug everything,
      Wave it like a madman,
      Cool it down,

lars7272 OK, so what do you expect to find out here? Contact Meta . Send photo evidence including any property damage or personal injury if it occurred.
