That's very dangerous. When batteries are totally depleted after numerous charging cycles this can happen. It's also not easy to see a swollen battery inside a headset. A battery warning should be part of the notification system on the headset. Battery health warnings are on many phones now, should be implemented on headsets. Maybe it is???? I don't know.

  • I have had the same problem with my meta quest 3  and I have contact the help team - awaiting a response. This is clearly a serious design flaw if numberous people are having simliar - or worse issues with the headset. I have only head my headset since October and used it 7 times and yet this happens. I am extremely angry by this and very concerned. I have pictures too but I have only submitted them to the help team. I posted my first article about  the battery now not charging and two people replied one of whom linked here to your thread, especially as I mention that mine has melted near the charging port on the outside.

@Lordjesuschrist69  If it was a design flaw it would affect every single headset as they are all the same design. You likely got a faulty device, or something wrong with the charger, or you used the wrong charger or the device had an impact of some type. If the second two possibilities didn't happen, you have a faulty device  Though not involved directly in electronics, I'm a process systems design engineer, I can tell you that a, design flaw affects 100% of products 100% of the time. My advice. It's still in warranty, return the headset for a replacement ASAP.

The charging lead itself that came with it has slightly melted too. Since then, I have used another correct USB C charging lead into the port

Well, this is what you said in your thread....... to me, it sounds as you've definitely used the wrong charger before the port melted.

And they kept trying to charge the device AFTER it had obviously started melting 🤭.
