Meta Quest 2 is taking forever to power off.

I have been having this problem sense 6/4/25, and I don't know how to fix it.

First, Ever Time that I want to power off my Device it is a grey screen, and takes about 1-3 Minutes just to Power off. I did factory reset the device in hopes it will fix the problem, but I think it made it worse. Also, it powers up perfectly fine.

Does anybody know how to fix this problem?

  • Hi there,

We came across your post, and recognize that you are experiencing some issues when powering down your Meta Quest device.

We recommend performing a hard reboot to give your device the refresh it deserves.

Let's go through the steps together!

    1. Hold down the power button and volume down button for 30 seconds until you hear the boot-up sound.
    2. If the boot-up sound is not heard:
      1. Hold the power and volume (-) button down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
      2. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight "Boot Device" and press the power button.
      3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

You can keep your device up to date with our latest software by using our Software Update Tool on our website.

If you find the issue still continues after a hard reboot, we would be happy to assist you further by inviting you to chat with us!

Pretty easy, go to your quest home settings general tab and turn off the bottom 3 options except security updates.  It may be the option that 'updates before shutting down' that is causing this.

I suggest you go through all Quest home menu settings screens and try to understand what each of these do.  Cheers.

  • Hi, only 1-3 minutes? Mine takes at least half an hour to shut down with updates. Don't know how to turn it off without updating anymore. Can take an hour, maybe more. It's crazy.

  • This problem started on my Quest 2 with the v77 update. Press and hold the power button until the headset powers off. If you use the menu power off option or ask Meta AI to shut down your headset two out of three times it gets hung up.

send a bug report to let Meta know about the problem

Report a bug on Meta Quest | Quest help | Meta Store

NomadsAnIsland It's not only the power off option in the menu which no longer work properly. Seems the whole menu is buggy.
I never shut down my headset; I just take it off and put it on the shelf.
But I have to restart it before connecting it (wired) to the PC, otherwise I have no sound.
Since v77, the restart button in the menu also no longer works.

  • TomCgcmfc  I don't believe it's a setting thing.

The Quest 2 has this behaviour since v77, Quest 3 is working fine and don't have that issue.

I have the same update settings on both.

On my headset I received the same update. The problem now is even worse because it now hangs up most of the time (say 4 out of 5) when using the long press until power off. Prior version would rarely hang up and power off completely as normal.
