Meta Quest 3 won't turn on, no charging indicator

Hello,

I have the following problem with a Meta Quest 3 headset : it simply won't turn on or respond to anything. The screen is black (turned off, no light), and no charging indicator light up on it no matter what I do. It also hasn't emitted a single sound.

When the charging cable is plugged on the side (with the original charger), no light turns on, and only a very very faint electronic sizzling sound can be heard from the USB-C port.

When I connect the charged Elite strap with battery to the headset, the charging light of the extended battery briefly turns orange for a second, then turns off. And the same small sizzling sound can be heard from the USB-C port on the side.

What I have tried :
- Charging for 2h the headset through the battery extension and trying again. No response.
- Charging overnight the headset directly and trying again (despite there being no light indicator on at all). No response.
- Pressing the Power button for 30 s. No response.
- Pressing both Power button and Volume down button for 30s. No response.
- Checking the detection sensor behind the (original) cover, nothing abnormal.

Essentially, it seems bricked, and for the moment I have no idea what might have had caused it. What can be done?

Thanks in advance.

    Hey mdequestone,

We came across your post and wanted to help you get your Quest 3 back up-and-running again!

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention, and for giving us such in-depth detail about the troubleshooting steps that you've tried, that's super helpful! We have a few more troubleshooting steps for you, and we'd be grateful if you would try them out:

    - Please try charging your Quest from a different source (another wall outlet), preferably one on a different circuit - please keep in mind that a computer USB port will not provide sufficient power to charge the Quest 3, so we would advise that you connect to a wall outlet using the power adapter provided

    - We know you said you tried holding down the volume and power buttons for 30 seconds - please can you try holding this down for a while longer to see if the boot screen will load?

    - Remove the Elite Strap with Battery and any unsupported third-party accessories from your device, then try charging again

If the issue persists after trying these steps, please get in touch with us privately by clicking our name, navigating to our profile and selecting 'Send a message' to privately message us - we're here to help!

        Hi Blazekaze 🙂

If you've tried another charger and blip charging without success, use your warranty.

Read the first comment in the following thread, it explains how blip charge works..... you have to do the blip charge thing maybe for an hour until the charging light reappears.

Quest 3 dead, no sign of life

To claim your warranty contact Meta support via email, chat or WhatsApp HERE

Hello, no, sorry, I did not manage to find any solution to the problem. I am now looking to have it replaced, or if impossible otherwise have it repaired like someone suggested below.

Hopefully you will find a solution to your own problem, or you'll be able to replace it too. Good luck!

Do you still have warranty? Here in Europe we have two years warranty.

Hello, thanks for the blip charging suggestion.

I tried it a few times but it was unsuccessful, which doesn't appear surprising : most people who solved their problem that way mentioned still being able to see external lights, or battery indicator on the screen, at some point. Meanwhile, in my case, there is absolutely nothing turning on at any point. I think something really might be fried, as steve_040 said below.

I'll now be trying to have it replaced or repaired. Still, thanks for the suggestion!

How long did you try? Depending on how empty the battery is, it may take an hour of blip charging until the normal charging light reappears and you can stop blip charging...... just saying😉

only a very very faint electronic sizzling sound can be heard from the USB-C port

    It's fried.

steve_40 is right I think. At the very least the charging port is fried. It's probably better to get it replaced or fixed before trying to use it as you might damage it more. I cannot understand why Meta support told you to keep trying things when you have an obviously burning out connection that might even be a fire hazard. If you're out of warranty and in the US contact Fix my Oculus. This is right up his street. Otherwise look for a 3rd party repairer where you are. Good luck and I hope you get a good resolution.

Thanks for the suggestions and your message, same for steve_040, this is also my opinion (about something being fried). As mentioned in other messages, looking for a way to replace it is now exactly what I'll do, as it seems to still be under warranty. But I'm keeping the fixing option in the back of my mind if a replacement is not possible for some reason!

  • I need help I have change my meta quest headset 3s last night I wake to get on and nothing is happening the change light is not working ! I try everything like restarting and everything I need help

  • That doesn’t sound like a software issue—this points strongly to a hardware/power failure.

    The key red flags:

    • No LED at all while charging
    • No response to power/reset combos
    • Brief orange flash on the Elite strap, then shutdown
    • Faint sizzling sound from the USB-C port

That sizzling noise is especially concerning—it usually indicates a power short or damaged charging circuit.

Before concluding it’s dead, try this:

    • Use a different USB-C cable + charger (known working, ideally 45W+)
    • Inspect the USB-C port for debris or burn marks
    • Try charging from a PC USB port (lower power, safer test)
    • Leave it plugged in for 20–30 mins, then try holding Power for 60 seconds

    But realistically:
    If there’s still:

    • No charging light
    • No boot logo
    • Same sizzling sound

Then the headset is almost certainly hardware-bricked (likely motherboard or power IC failure).

    What to do next:

    • Do NOT keep trying to charge it (could worsen damage)
    • Contact Meta Support for RMA/replacement
    • If under warranty → you should get a replacement
    • If out of warranty → still contact support; they sometimes offer repair/replacement options

This isn’t something you can fix with resets or software—it’s a physical failure.

Hope you get it replaced quickly.

      That's a 4-month-old post you're replying to. I'm sure they've sorted their problem by now 😉.
