Meta Quest Link App causes Firefox to crash

Quest Link app: 78.0.0.988.310

OS: Windows 11 24H2 26100.4946

Firefox: seemingly any version now. V142, ESR, all the way back to 130.

 

After letting the Quest app update to the latest drivers, it is causing Firefox to crash anytime Firefox gets audio or video permissions.

Uninstalling the quest link app will make Firefox go back to normal. Re installing, the crashing problem comes back.

 

The quest link app does not need to be active.

Reproduction Steps:

Have Quest Link 78.0.0.988.310 and Firefox installed.

  1. Go to https://webcamtests.com/
  2. Click on "Test my Cam"

Alternatively

  1. Go to meet.google.com
  2. New meeting -> Start instant meeting
  3. Set the mic and camera permissions

 

In both cases, Firefox immediately crashes.

I have completely reformatted my computer and reinstalled everything, with the same problem.

 

As soon as the Quest Link app is uninstalled, the problem goes away.

    When I tried the Firefox webcamtest link it did not crash, but it wouldn't stream any video from my Quest 3 either (some message about stuff being blocked by Windows). But I can confirm that Google Meet causes Firefox to crash when trying to use the Quest 3 as the video camera device.

    I want to specify that I’m not trying to use my Quest 3 in this scenario. In fact it’s not even connected.

     

    I'm just giving Firefox my normal webcam and mic permissions.

      Perhaps Firefox is trying to use your Quest 3 by default? It might not be connected, but I note that Firefox still detects that it exists, maybe due to the Link app.

        Yea I get what you’re saying, but I explicitly select just my normal mic and camera as my devices. Once they are selected and given permission, the crashing starts.

        I can revoke permissions to put me back in the state where I can select the devices again.

        I’ve had the quest link app installed for a straight year without issues, latest update just broke this scenario.

    I just got the update to 79.0.0.1143.381, and it is still a problem.

        I think it is similar with this issue,  please fix it ASAP because it will cause crash in many applications using directshow

    Having the same issue. This is a pretty massive regression that makes using Quest Link unusable because it breaks critical use cases like video conferencing. Meta needs to either fix this or provide a way to rollback to previous versions without this bug.

    I have that issue too. Judging by the crash report, the issue is caused by magicdsfilterQuest3.dll file in Windows drivers folder. But still have no idea how to implement a workaround.

    exact same thing happening to me, even though I'm not even using my quest 3, Firefox is crashing due to it whenever the browser tries to use my webcam

    I'm experiencing the same issue, uninstall link and no problems whatsoever. It would be nice to have some form of update if they're actually working on this issue or not.

    I’m also having this issue. It crashes Firefox and OBS repeatedly. Virtual doctor appointments, Google Meet, it doesn’t seem to matter which site is requesting the camera, it just crashes. Same with OBS. Which isn’t great because I record games with OBS.

    We are experiencing the same issue in our app, so this is not unique to Firefox. We think it can potentially affect any other app that tries to access cam/mic devices.

    Please MetaStoreHelp​ , take a look at this as soon as possible, it is having an impact in our release calendar. Uninstalling Meta Quest Link is not an option for us.
