Reposting as still an issue :-( Meta Horizon app Oculus Go setup stuck at "Health and Safety".

Hi, sorry for reposting as a new topic but this is clearly still an unresolved issue for many judging by the number of replies and over 35000 views since this topic was resolved: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Other-Troubleshooting/Resolved-Meta-Quest-mobile-app-disables-Oculus-Go-Setup-stucks/td-p/1165809

I bought a factory reset Oculus Go off eBay as a first affordable step into VR... I checked the app before purchase and saw that adding Oculus Go devices was still supported (see screenshot)... However when the device arrived and I tried to set it up, the app (version 326.0) on iphone and ipad everything worked fine until the point where it won't play the health and safety video... I don't have access to an android device to do the "old app version" trick... very frustrating as it seems like a great piece of kit, now basically bricked because it can't get past the setup screen 😞

DEVS! Please Please Please fix this! Or this is the first and last time I buy anything to do with Meta!

Health and safety video failing to loadOculus Go clearly still intedend to be supported

desperate_dan1  unfortunately, meta aren't going to make the app compatible with the Oculus Go or the Quest 1 headsets. The old android app trick still works. The Go is still a decent headset for watching movies on, it's just a shame meta aren't as decent. If you're unable to borrow an android phone or tablet, it still may be worth picking up a really cheap old android phone off ebay to get the headset set up. One set up the latest iphone app should work with the headset as normal.

Do you happen to have any recommendations for an old android phone to buy off ebay?

TheBigMac17 whilst I can't recommend a particular model,  most of the smart phones will work. Basically, just get the cheapest. You'll only need it once to get past the H&S video and then your current phone will work as advertised to pair to the headset.

  • Thanks Anonymous However, since the setup process is there in the app specifically for Oculus Go, and all the steps, pairing, wifi, adding device etc work, it seems like the intent is there for them to still allow these old devices to be set up and added to accounts...

If they wanted to end support entirely, why not just remove the option to add an Oculus Go to your account in the app? That would be far more clear than blocking it many steps into the setup process on the technicality of not being able to stream a health and safety video... (which is extremely misleading)..

If their intent is to hide what is actually supported by having something break a few steps down the setup process (which you can't know ahead of purchasing a device) why would I buy another Meta product? How am I meant to know if it will work with their app or not besides looking at the "add device" list?

This It just seems like a small bug, probably a wrong URL for the video? maybe an oversight when they were moving content around rather than anything deliberate... And looking at the history over the last year or so, it seems to have been fixed before.

Anyone from the dev team care to add any insight?

      Hey there desperate_dan1!

We came across your post and wanted to help you out with the issues you're having!

To set up and connect your Oculus Go to Wi-Fi, you'll need to download the Meta Horizon mobile app on your mobile phone.

The Meta Horizon mobile app runs on the following phones:

      • Any Android phone running software version 5.0 or higher.
      • Any iPhone running software version iOS 12.4 or higher.

You can download the Meta Horizon mobile app on your supported phone by going to http://oculus.com/app and following the on-screen instructions.

Please bare in mind that your phone must be connected to Wi-Fi and have Bluetooth turned on in order to set up your Oculus Go, and if you install the Meta Horizon mobile app on an unsupported device, you may experience issues setting up your Oculus Go.

If you meet these requirements, and are still experiencing this issue, please get in touch with us at Meta Store Support - we'd be happy to help!

MetaStoreHelp why do you keep peddling this misinformation. The current mobile app doesn't work with the Quest 1 and Oculus Go headsets. Pull your fingers out and get it sorted!

  • THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME AS WELL. Was cleaning out my house off a move and found it my Oculus Go, haven’t used it in years. Was super excited to get it going and got stuck at the health video probably 8 times. Like you I have also read some of the prior threads I don’t understand how the same issue can be patched and patched over and over. META BE BETTER

  • This issue is so unacceptable it’s unreal. If I were able to still use it but not access a certain feature, understandable. But don’t being able to even use the device is such a joke it’s infuriating.   The funny thing is it will take them weeks to fix this LMAO. Never buying anything from y’all again, some of the worst customer service I can even imagine

Weeks? Nah this has been happening and reported for over 2 years and they have done nothing of value to fix this problem which seems like a super easy fix very straightforward very testable but still nothing

  • Yes…..They **bleep**ing suck! Wasted many unproductive hours trying to get past a step to setup my oculus go headset! I feel your pain and it’s **bleep**ing unnecessary to have to go thru this aggravation!
