Tracking lost error

My oculus quest 2 has been acting a bit weird and by weird I mean there is a glitch where when ever I go to play a game or turn on my oculus it says Tracking Lost I’ve cleaned the lenses, changed the lighting and nothing. If somebody knows how to fix this one please tell me.

    Hiya!

We understand you're currently experiencing issues with your headset's tracking. Well let the good ol' doctor take a look this. Also give yourself a pat on the back for the steps you worked out. This really helps us narrow down what our next options our!

    1.  Start with restarting your Quest 2 headset. This process will require you to turn off your headset completely.
    2. When you receive the 'Tracking Lost' message, you actually have the option of disabling the Guardian. What you can do is reset your Guardian, so you will be able to start tracking without any errors.
    3. Some of our gamers have reported they have experienced tracking issues when they wake up their headset from standby mode. Try turning on your headset without standby mode and see if this step makes a difference.
    4. If these steps don't work out then let us work on performing a Factory Reset on your Meta Quest 2. Before you proceed with this process we advise for you to make sure 'Oculus Cloud Backup' is enabled on your device. You can verify this through this link here: store.facebook.com/help/quest/articles/in-vr-experiences/oculus-features/cloud-sync/.
      • Once you have this feature enabled you can proceed with the factory reset process. This link here will walk you through how to factory reset your device properly. Follow this link here.

If you're still experiencing tracking issues, then please feel free to update us. We will make sure to get you taken care of.

We hope to hear back from you soon!

If you get a tracking lost message it means your head set is dead and must be replaced.  This has happened 2 times in 2 months.  Both with brand new head sets, and both times it meant the head set became completely inoperable.  Because without tracking you can’t do any of the fixes, and it’s a hardware problem not software so factory reset does nothing.  Because it’s a hardware failure you must replace the entire system.

Hey there, Duckyguy89. Thank you for letting us know that your getting a lost tracking error message after dropping the headset. We know that having power issues after something like this happening can definitely put up roadblocks to your VR world. Not to worry; we would like to help you out. We see that you have already done a bit of troubleshooting with a factory default and restarting the headset, however, can you tell us if you have done the following?

Have you cleared your Guardian history? If you’re having problems with tracking, clearing your Guardian history can often fix the issue. Here is an article that goes over how to do this.

        Afterwards, please restart your headset.

With your headset on and powered on, press and hold the power button on the right side of your headset until you see the Power off screen.

Select Restart. Your headset will turn off and then turn back on.

If you're unable to restart your headset,

Press and hold the power button for at least 10 seconds. This will manually turn off your headset.

        Wait 30 seconds.

Press and hold the power button until your headset turns back on.

We'll be looking forward to your update, and please let us know if you have any questions.

Hey there HerWaKong, thank you for letting us know you are also experiencing this issue. We know how screen blackouts and non-responsive controllers can keep you out of having a great time in VR.

First things first, please make sure you have followed the recommended steps of:

        • Restart the headset (Power off, leave off for 5-10 minutes)
        • Unpairing and re-pairing the controllers to the headset
        • Manage guardian by clearing the guardian history
        • Remove the batteries from the controllers for 5-10 minutes
        • Clean the controllers, headset, and cameras with a dry microfiber cloth
        • Uninstall and reinstall the mobile app

If you still have issues after those steps, feel free to send us a message so we can investigate your specific case further. You can send us a PM from our Profile Page at any time.

  • I have performed a factory reset along with these other steps. None of them have worked and I continue to experience tracking issues.

That’s because tracking issues are a hardware failure.  You must replace the entire system.  I have had to do it two times now.  Lucky for me it’s been within 30day return window.

  • Unfortunately if you get tracking lost message it means your head set is dead.  This has happened 2 times to 2 different head sets.  Bit times I had to replace them.  Luckily it was within 30 days of purchase.  But based on everything I have seen . Tracking lost means no functioning, and must be replaced.

I eventually got it to work again, it’s just a bit touchy. Kind of really sucks though 😕

  • I know how to reset my boundary but my controllers aren’t working I ahve factory reset and it’s still the same

Hey thanks for trying to help me it was good and I got a new headset for this Christmas just telling you

  • Yeah I found something out, if you beat the **** out of your headset without breaking it (palm slapping it a good few times) it seems to work again. Now just for how long.

  • 1) Delete guardian history. Diagnose by turning it off. (how to do that via adb seeing as the option has been removed) Total factory reset shouldn't be needed...

    2) Watch out for reflective surfaces, wind moving trees etc

    3) Try 50/60hz instead of auto

    4) Get hair out of the lenses. Clean the camera lenses.
