What is the most incredible thing you experienced with the VR ?

I just bought a quest 3. It's amazing and i love it but i want to experienced all the possibilities and i'd like to show to my wife how incredible it is.

I tried to show her some 360 vidéos in YouTube VR but the quality was horrible.

So, Except video games, what is the most "wahou" experience you had with the VR, so far ? Tourism, vidéo, film, walk, etc... I don't really care but it has to be outstanding !

  • Hi mussa3  to watch good quality 360 or 180 videos you are best going to the Meta Quest TV app and downloading them (think they might call it "cache at high quality").

A couple I recommend are "Discover Puerto Plata in 3D..." - by Hugh Hou and "Discover the magic of Paris with Vanilla Lilly..." (you do have to search for them) - when you watch them after downloading you'll see the excellent quality.

OK, next, Titans of Space - unfortunately it is paid for but quite reasonably priced.

For games, there's Half Life Alyx, Hubris - PC games.

    Quest standalone - Resident Evil.

My favorite VR experience is still Walkabout Mini Golf. I can't tell you how many times I tried to walk up a step that wasn't there or lean on a railing that wasn't there. I think its good because it replicates something that most of us have done in real life, and they do a great job at it. The graphics may look like a N64 game, but I found the experience to be just about perfect.

I've been playing it for quire a while now, and it feels more like any other game to me now, but initially, it was great way to discover VR.

    • That is such a great game and yeah, it's funny how so many people get so immersed that they try to lean on a fence or something.

It's great proof that things don't have to look real in VR for people to experience true presence - is it more about being so comfortable that you do these things I wonder?

I think its partly that it is a slower paced game (at least with multiple players) and that you have time to look around and take it in. I think for me it was also that I was new to VR and still discovering how to interact (and avoid interacting) with the surroundings. But I agree that things don't need to look "real" to be immersive.

  • Just played Into the Radius (Quest 3 enhanced version). Really just gotten into the tutorial but it's a bit of a wow moment... even after all these years of using VR.

The weapon mechanics alone are something new to me, usually it's a just a single button to reload but this is realistic... operating a bolt-action rifle, filling pistol magazines with bullets... discovering how to add and operate a laser sight etc. If the whole game is like that, I think there'll be several wows.

  • In my opinion 360 Videos are not really VR. Especially if they are not stereoscopic. You need the 6 degrees of movement.

Here is a list of Oculus apps I like

  • I have to say that on the 3 the BIGSCREEN app is jaw dropping. Watch YouTube in that app and you will feel as if you are in a movie theater watching YouTube at a high res. There are movies, trailers in 3D, etc. The theaters you can choose from are renderable and feel so real. I joined a friend in a theater to watch YouTube. When I tried this app with the 2 it was unusable. Blurry, bad. Now I am using it to watch full movies over over my 75 inch in my living room. The app is free as well. A must to try on the Quest 3 as the immersion is top notch.

  • ‘Dreams of Dali’ which you can find on YouTube !
