Air link missing requirements ethernet connection

I'm attempting air link. I meet all the PC requirements. I have the Meta quest 2 connected on a 5 GHz Wi-Fi and the PC is connected through a functional ethernet cable directly to the router... I am however using a Google mesh system, I know that that can apparently make things difficult, but it was never stated it would be impossible. My issue is that even though my computer is clearly connected to the internet with an ethernet cable that functions and allows for PC gaming with all other mediums. When I try the air link it says that one of my missing requirements isn't ethernet connection? The quest link does work with the cable but again still runs into those missing requirements when attempted to be paired with the PC. Any and all help would be appreciated.

  • Hey @SwayDrFreshWe notice that you are experiencing some issues with your air link feature. We want you to be able to take advantage of everything the Quest device has to offer. Let's investigate what might be going on.

You are correct that we do not advise using a mesh network when utilizing PCVR features; but, it is achievable. It appears that you are already aware of the disadvantages of this kind of connection. So lets try some internal fixes that might clear some of the network connectivity issues:

    • Adjust your devices' Wi-Fi channels.
    • Make sure that for optimal Air link performance that you have the device set to 5GHz band and set it for your headset only.
    • Ensure that all device drivers are up to date on your PC
    • Update your operating system
    • Close conflicting programs (McAfee, AVG, Steam VR)

Try the Oculus Debug Tool :

    • Press Windows + E keys to open the File Explorer. Copy and paste the following path into the address bar, then hit Enter.
    • C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics
    • Double-click the OculusDebug Tool.
      • Under the category Oculus Link, check if the Enode Dynamic Bitrate Enode is in “Default” status. If not, click on the option and select Default from the drop-down menu.
      • Go on to check if the parameter of Encode Bitrate (Mbps) is “0”. If not, change it to 0.

Please get in touch with us via our help page at this link if these methods don't solve the problem. After you've navigated our channels, one of our wonderful support personnel can assist you further.

An enormous thank you for the assistance and the expeditiousness with which it was handled. I'm a father who's completely out of the circle of questions I asked about, but I made sure I did a lot of research before I asked them and even with all the greenery surrounding me and my knowledge of the subject, it was the response given to me by the meta support team that allow me to solve my problem... The issue actually ended up being, which I only discovered by following the tips for adjusting my parameters for the best possible connection and experience that led me to realize I had foolishly left the VPN turned on for our McAfee security which was causing a confliction that made my quest 2 believe that my PC did not have the required ethernet connection.

I was having no trouble with Air-Link performance until a month or so ago, and it is suddenly unusable.  The PC and Quest are on a 5G network that nobody else is using, but I recently started getting the "some requirements met" warning, and observe the exact same problems (periodic 2-20 second freezes in SteamVR games) using another network.  Performance is fine with a good USB-C cable (in a small space), so I infer that the problem is WiFi related.
What has changed and what can I do to diagnose and fix the problem.

Hey DigiGeezer. Having Air Link give you problems after using it without any can cause anyone trouble. Luckily we are here and we have just the troubleshooting steps to try to fix this.

Can you tell us if the Router is in the same room as your PC and Headset? Can you also tell us if you're using any VPNs on your PC or Router? Using a VPN can cause issues for Air Link as it uses your home network to communicate data from your HMD to your PC, and VPNs mask the IP address of affected devices by bouncing the connection around.

We would like for you to the following troubleshooting steps for us:

        • In Quest 2
        1. Navigate to the Settings menu
        2. Ensure "Air Link" is disabled/toggled off

Restart both the Quest 2 and the PC, and re-pair the Quest 2 to the PC following the set-up steps in our public article.

If you have the time to, we would like to try restarting your Router, PC and Meta Quest 2. Can you please make sure to do it in that order as well? You can follow these steps to restart/reboot your Meta Quest 2 Headset.

        1. Turn off your headset.
        2. Hold the power and volume (-) button on your headset down simultaneously until the boot screen loads on your headset.
        3. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Boot Device and press the power button.
        4. Use the volume buttons on your headset to highlight Yes and press the power button.

The complaint seems to be about WiFi signal strength.  I borrowed an Archter GX90, directly connected to my PC and ran a dedicated 5G gaming network, and with the Quest 20' away it said the signal was weak.  I brought the Quest within 5' (of this monster WiFi router) and it said the signal was acceptable, but I was still getting significant drop-outs.
Perhaps there is a (relatively) new problem with the Quest's high-speed WiFi ... this would explain why it used to work, and why it even has trouble with a mega-signal from a very fast router.

Hey there, DigiGeezer. Thanks for reaching back out and letting us know that you did move the router closer but are still experiencing dropouts. We would like to provide some troubleshooting steps that we believe may be beneficial to you.

Please try the steps listed here:

        Troubleshoot your connection.
        Put on your headset.
Press  on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
        Select Quest Link.
        Select Troubleshoot.

If you are still having trouble, please review the Air Link benchmark results.

You can review the results of the benchmarking tool within the headset, this is useful for further troubleshooting of the network and potential missing requirements and slow connections when using Air Link.

        To view the results:

        1. Open the Quest 2 settings menu
        2. Open "System Settings", likely "System"
        3. Click on "Quest Link"
        4. Results are listed in this menu.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We are happy to help.
