Hey there! Please ensure that the battery compartments and terminals are free of dust, dirt and damage, and ensure that you're using batteries that are fresh as well. If the issue persists, please click here to submit a ticket so that we can help. Thanks!

I need assistance with my oculus 2 controllers. I've already cleaned the controllers out and put new batteries in, I just purchased. The right one works but the left controller does not work even with the new battery. Please help.

I'm not certain if this is your issue but, I had a similar problem because my battery was not making contact (on the positive end). This was resolved with some folded up aluminum foil on the Positive end contact of the controller.

The below link is a great, quick 2 minute explanation of how this can be resolved (aside from buying different brand AA batteries) and is my source for the above information.

        Hope this helps!

Even after that, my quest 3 controllers aren't working after battery replacements! I can't turn them on so could you please help?

This may or not be it, but I noticed that the quest 3 controllers need slightly more power than the quest 2. If you are using normal batteries, this shouldn't be an issue, but it you are using rechargable NiMh batteries, these batteries have a slightly lower voltage than Duracell or Energizer. Batteries that worked fine in my quest 2 controllers do not work in my quest 3 controllers, but new NiMh rechargables do still work for me. The quest 3 says that freshly charged ones are only 50%, but they last a good while. My older NiMh batteries, that have seen plenty of use in the quest 2, would not work, or if the controller did turn on, it only stayed on for about 10 seconds.

What confuses me is that the controller batteries that come with the charging dock are supposedly 3.8V. From the tech specs section of the charging dock: 3.85V/167mAh/640mWh * 2. But the controllers will not turn on when using Lithium 14500 batteries. I only tried them two times for about 3 seconds each, but the controller would not come on. I didn't mess with it after that because I didn't want to fry a controller, and the NiMH AA work well enough for me (they just need to be new I guess).

I had a similar issue due to my battery not making contact because the battery's positive end contact was a little too short. This can be resolved with a touch of aluminum foil on the Positive end contact of the controller.

Same thing happened to me. Remote was working fine, it needed new batteries. i changed them out and then the remote wouldn’t work. We only played the thing a few months.

This foil trick did work. I compared the before and after batteries. I had been using ACDelco batteries and switched to a cheap bulk pack of Kirkland brand from Costco. While the overall length of the batteries are the same, the Kirkland negative terminal extends out further beyond the body of the battery and the positive terminal nipple extends less from the body of the battery than the ACDelco battery. Because the positive terminal in the controller sits inside a plastic cup rather than being flush or extended as in most other electronics, the shorter nipple on the Kirkland battery can't connect without some help.

Can you provide a little more context?

        Did this controller work previously?

        If so:
Have you ever accidentally hit the controller on a hard surface?
How long did it work before it stopped working?
Can you perhaps upload a photo of your controller with the battery port open?

Hey guys! We are just checking back to see if those controller issues have been resolved. If not feel free to reach out to us anytime by sending us a PM

  • Spoke with support and the options are to try a full factory reset and if that doesn't work... Get a replacement. This is literally my first battery replacement and it seems the hardware is physically finnicky with batteries. Really poor design and experience overall.

  • You should try to put a thin folded piece of foil and then, put it on the + side of the controller battery placement. should work 100%.

Hey man.im.dead , I really appreciate you sharing a potential workaround with others. However, I would like anyone seeing this to know that this is not recommended and may void your limited warranty. You're absolutely free to do whatever you want, but I just wanted to make sure that I provided the relevant info here so everyone can make an educated decision!

Hi BlueberrieSmoothie. Thanks for telling some info, I didn't know that could expire the warranty. Thanks again for the reply. (I am kind of new to the headsets.)

    1.  try a different battery (some batteries are already dead)

    2.  Hold the X and Menu button on the left controller and Hold the A and Universal/Oculus button

    3.  Open the meta app and unpair and pair the controllers

    4.  ensure that the controllers have no damages if so, you should probably contact Meta to get them fixed

    Hey there Deepcold_Loong!

Welcome to the community forums, we're glad to have you here!

Good question, from the specifications of the touch controllers, they can handle up to 4.0v, so it should be okay to use. However, I cannot guarantee that it can cause any adverse effects on your controllers as they are third party and not the supported Meta Quest rechargeable batteries, which you can find here.

The Meta Quest Developer site outlines the electrical specifications and guidelines of the Quest touch controllers.

    Hope this helps! 🐢
