Usb C not connecting to quest link

Hello, i recently got my quest 3, i love it and am happy i decided to purchase it, however to date my only issue is that my computer or my quest will not recognize each other when connected with a USB C to USB C.

i have had success with the same Cable using a USB A adapter on one end and tried to use the cable that came with the quest aswell. The quest will charge off of both ports but will only connect to quest link off of the USB C to USB A. Both ports are running usb 3.0.

My computer is a Lenovo Legion Tower 7i Gen 8 (Intel) Gaming Desktop, i have a 4080 with a I7-13700KF, the usb ports i’m using are numbered 8&12 on the tech specs that i am sending a link to. It will only connect to quest link off of port 12 but still draws power (i think more) off port 8. I have tried to flip the cable as stated in the original post but no luck, please do inform me of any potential solutions

dani_skymap  Very hard to say why I don't have any problems connecting with Link, but you do.  Maybe try updating your motherboard bios and avoid any overclocking.  Also, maybe consider getting a usb3 pcie card.  Kinda hard to suggest much more when you don't list your PC specs.

Otherwise, contact meta support including your log file (search this forum and/or Google) and see if they can identify what's causing your connection issue.  Good luck mate and cheers.

Hey CaptainKek42069! Thanks for reaching our about this. We are attaching a link for you to follow here, you can also try these steps to be sure the link connection is secure:

    1. Open the Oculus app on your PC.
    2. Turn on your Quest 2 or Quest.
    3. Plug your USB 3 cable into a USB 3.0 port on your PC, and then plug the other end into your headset.
    4. A message displays in VR prompting you to Allow access to data. Select Deny. If you mistakenly 'Allow' the prompt, you must unplug your USB cable from the Quest and plug it back in.
    5. When prompted to Enable Oculus Link, select Enable to begin remote rendering using Oculus Link.
    6. Ensure Air Link is disabled in Settings on the headset.

Let us know if this works for you!

No, this did not help or fix anything, perhaps because i have a quest 3 and you appear to have given a solution for the quest 1 & 2. As previously stated i have a quest 3. Furthermore this support was completely unhelpful as neither my PC nor my quest 3 provided a prompt requesting to access data.

Furthermore Quest link also does not detect the headset when connected to the computer’s USBC port. I am quickly coming to the conclusion that you don’t have a solution to this problem judging by the commonality of it and the fact that you sent me a support response for past gen headsets.

Of which literally nothing was applicable, ive already repaired the quest link software, ive flipped the connector, ive done anything from the other support stations. Nothing seems to work for anyone. So what is going on here?

Hey there CaptainKek42069! We want to be able to get you going so that you can have the best experience possible!  We want to know if you are using our link cable or a 3rd party? We suggest that you use our link cable for the best results, and without the adapter. Here is a link for you to check out on purchasing our cable! We look forward to speaking with you!

  • Just to add i can send a video to a support agent explaining and showing the circumstances if that would help

Thank you CaptainKek42069 for this information! We are grateful for your apology and we truly just want to understand your issue. If we understand you correctly it could very well be a software issue and our team is currently working to understand this more. From looking at your specs it could also be that your computer is better than the required specs which could also be the cause. Have you tried using Air Link? You can get more info on that here. Also if you check out this thread, some of our community have found solutions through different issues similar to what you are experiencing. We are committed to investigating this further with you, and look forward to your reply!

Yes i’m aware of Airlink, aswell as steam link & virtual desktop. All of which have similar drawbacks being network dependent & have clarity issues as a result, i don’t want to use airlink, steamlink, or virtual desktop for my high end simulators, even over a usb-a 3.2 gen 1 connection it is better than airlink. I am explicitly asking what could be causing the quest link not to function exclusively over USB-C 3.2 2x2.

Im not asking for anything other than the bolded information. If you have 0 ideas or solution to that specific problem and question please just admit to not knowing any viable solutions for this so i can move on from trying to get it work.

The issues in that thread appear to be for airlink, once again making me feel like you’re not really helping & just providing the barest minimum of effort, honesty it feels like im dealing with chat gpt, this has been overall an incredibly frustrating process to try and get help in regards to this issue and has me seriously concerned about what support I would receive in the event of something going wrong with the headset in the future, as it stands i am beginning to wish i had delayed my purchase and went for a pimax instead. As it seems that there is not a viable way to utilize the quest 3 for dedicated PCVR via a stable wired connection.

  • CaptainKek42069  regarding your main question, what could be causing the quest link not to function exclusively over USB-C 3.2 2x2?

While usb3.2 gen2 (10mbps) and usb3.2 gen2x2 (20mbps) should be backward compatible, I have heard of cases that some devices/cables are not happy with gen2x2.  For example, my VRcover 10mbps optical link cable has been reported to have issues with gen2x2.  I'm not sure why this is the case but I suggest your best option right now would be to use one of your motherboard's usb3.2 gen2 type-c ports.  This is what I use with my z790mb and it works great, and seems to maintain my Q3 and QPro headset battery at +80% for a very long time (+5-6 hrs).  Anyway, I hope this helps mate and cheers.

  • Has there been any real solutions for this issue yet? I'm extremely frustrated as I'm in the same situation. I HAVE the official link cable, literally just bought it, MQDH refuses to connect to either of my headsets over USB C with the link cable or the charging cable that came in the box. The USB C port on my PC recognizes other devices, phones, flash drives, etc. Both of my headsets are in developer mode since I AM a developer and it still does not work. Air Link is not suitable for what I need to do. MQDH, Oculus link, and both headsets are updated to the latest versions.
