Quest 3 disables 6GHz WiFi channels in Egypt despite NTRA authorization

Hi there. I believe Meta Horizon OS contains an incorrect Wi-Fi regulatory configuration for Egypt, causing Quest 3 to disable the entire 6 GHz band.

I have owned my Quest 3 since 17 March 2025 and have been unable to use its 6 GHz Wi-Fi capability ever since.

My compatible hardware includes:

  • Meta Quest 3
  • TP-Link Archer GXE75 AXE5400 Wi-Fi 6E router
  • Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 160 MHz adapter
  • A dedicated WPA3 6 GHz network on channel 37 (6135 MHz)

The router and network work correctly. My Windows PC connects to this 6 GHz network successfully at a link speed of up to 2402 Mbps.

Diagnostic evidence

ADB diagnostics on the Quest 3 show:

  • When its Wi-Fi regulatory country becomes EG, the supported 6 GHz channel list is completely empty.
  • The 6 GHz SSID then disappears or fails to connect.
  • Under the temporary DE or neutral 00 regulatory domain, compatible 6 GHz channels become available.
  • While operating under DE (due to a router configuration), the Quest successfully detects and connects to the same 6135 MHz network.
  • When the driver automatically changes back to EG, 6 GHz is removed and the headset disconnects.

Raw Wi-Fi beacon captures also confirm that nearby Egyptian access points can cause the Quest’s Qualcomm Wi-Fi driver to change to EG. This happens below the normal Android location and account-setting layers.

This is not a password, signal-strength, channel, or router-compatibility problem. The failure occurs because Horizon OS exposes zero 6 GHz channels under its Egyptian regulatory profile.

Egypt officially permits 6 GHz Wi-Fi

Egypt’s National Telecomunications Regulatory Authority permits indoor wireless LAN operation from 5925 to 6425 MHz.

Table 4 of the official November 2024 Short-Range Device guidelines specifies:

  • Application: indoor Wireless LAN/Wi-Fi
  • Frequency band: 5925–6425 MHz
  • Maximum power: 250 mW EIRP
  • Standard: EN 303 687

Official NTRA document:

https://www.tra.gov.eg/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/EGY-NTRA-November-2024-SRD_English-1.pdf

My network uses 6135 MHz, which is inside this authorized range.

Request

Could Meta please escalate this to the Horizon OS Wi-Fi/regulatory team and update the EG regulatory profile to support Egypt’s authorized indoor 5925–6425 MHz Wi-Fi band?

I can provide ADB logs, regulatory-domain timestamps, supported-channel outputs, successful connection records, and raw beacon Country Information captures if required.

I also believe this issue might extend to other countries based on some loose discussions I've seen online, but I can only reliably confirm Egypt.

Thank you

Wrong forum.

Report the problem in the headset itself.

Headset>Quick Settings>Report a problem.
