Landscape vs. Vertical

I'm one of those people who is not happy with vertical (AKA sliver) pix and vids.  There may not be many of us??  People who live with their phones  only look at them one way, vertical- they never turn them horizontal to get to full view of something.  Yet, all our big screen TVs , movie theaters, and computer monitors are landscape.  So is our vision field of view.  When we are driving in our cars our view is landscape, not just a little vertical slice of the road.   I guess Meta is just for the FB and vertical phone users.  OK, enough of my spleen venting.  Just wish the glasses were capable of taking landscape pix and vids for the rest of us.   Perhaps there are others who think the same way?   (Note that I sometimes do take vertical pix and vids when the occasion calls for it. )

  • I know exactly what you mean! I think that's because the glasses are optimised for Instagramposts and WhatsAppcalls which are usually in portrait mode.

The only solution I see right now is tilting your glasses or your whole head by 90 degrees (just like your smartphone) to take landscape pictures 😅.

What do you expect me to do? I am not Mark Zuckerberg neither am I capable of deconstructing your glasses and rotate the camera...

Best I can do is offer you a solution to your landscape problem and explain why the camera is installed in that way, which I did.

Feel free to think of solutions of your own or just use your smartphone for landscape...

Haha nice. You could just have taken off the glasses and turned only the glasses but okay xD

I feel your pain. Portrait videos are the worst. It captures half the action and all the forehead. Perfect for watching with one eye closed.

  • Thanks Steve.  I was just hoping (I know, I'm a dreamer) that Mark or one of his minions would see some of these comments/suggestions.

I agree with you completely! Do you think they could release an upgrade that allows you to choose whether to film horizontally or vertically?

I'm thinking that it might require having an additional camera put in the glasses, one with landscape aspect. Otherwise, the feature would have to be in-glasses cropping of the portrait image/video, which means substantially lower resolution. So it's not such a simple idea as it might seem.

  • Sadly I don't think it's possible for them too release an updated that would allow for meta glasses to record in landscape reason for would be that the camera isn't able to do that there's something the way the camera is made that prevents it from being able to record in landscape and as silly as this might seem I don't believe software can make it. Was more of a bad hardware design.
