Game Downloads keep cancelling themselves on Quest 3

hi im having an issue when trying to download asgards wrath 2, im on q3, every time i try to download the game, the download stops and the asgards wrath icon goes back to install, i normally get between 100-600mb when it does this, the highest download i have got to is 18gb, i have restarted the quest and done a factory reset, there is plenty of space and i have tried different wifi networks. i can download and install other games just not this 1.

I posted a follow up to this issue for me from 3 weeks ago yesterday since this was taking off due to asgards wrath 2.

i also want to note a VPN was a work around for me 3 weeks ago, as well as using a hotspot from my cellphone, as well as taking my oculus to work with me and using the works WiFi.

i note this because I see a few people here claiming this wasn’t as issue before V60, but the fact is that it was an issue before V60.

in fact it’s been an issue since the first Oculus because I’ve found forum post about this problem dating back to 2019 where users would try to download games and it would just stop mid download for seemingly no reason.

now; Meta may have made something worse in V60, but my previous solution is still working fine via v60 update.

a VPN will work around it, but I’m telling you straight up, adjusting the correct router settings will resolve the issue. That doesn’t mean meta doesn’t need to do adjustments on their servers to fix why their dropping downloads so frequently and consistently, but if you find the right settings and adjust then. It will start to work with the Meta servers accurately and stop dropping the downloads.

Hi Jmitchell238 this is really interesting because it certainly wasn't an issue for me at all before last week and I have been on my Three 5G router for well over a year now, it only showed up last week for me, as it has for a lot of people.
I guess it's possible that your location is a factor too maybe and so you hit this months ago, while everyone else only just encountered this due to server related changes that maybe you already encountered in your region?
I'm just guessing here but it sounds plausible.
From the threads I've been chatting on for the past 5 days or so now, this issue only showed up last week for most of us, so something certainly changed then.

I just got around to installing sidequest and nordvpn. Using the vpn, the bigscreen update installed fine (although slow). I'm now testing Asgard's Wrath 2. I'm guessing it'll take a few hours over vpn.
Not something a casual user would want to be doing though.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure changing a bunch of router settings is the right thing for anyone to be doing.
I say this because my setup is working perfectly for EVERY single device on my network and it has been for as long as I can remember.
Just for context, I know hardware and software....I'm a developer and I have been involved in computers since my youth in the early 1980's.....I know my way around and so I can say with confidence that these issues that have popped up for me last week.....are not on anything on my end and I am pretty sure it's the same for everyone else who started to experience this at the same time.
The issue that most of the people I've spoken to on here are having is purely related to us all being on 4G or 5G connections, which were working perfectly fine before last week.....for well over a year in my case.
I have changed nothing at this end, I haven't changed router settings on either the Three modem or the Asus Rog router that I have plugged into the Three box.
The only thing that could possibly have changed is Meta related and NOT router settings related at this end.
We should absolutely not be messing up router settings in order to get the headset working, Meta changed something, pure and simple....they need to fix it.

I have been having this issue trying to download any game actually. I just didn't realise it as I hadn't tried!!

Everyone here keeps mentioning the Three network so I write this reply

.My issue with the three network has been going on for some months now. They changed something and overnight, I couldn't connect to my workplace VPN (even though I had been for a year) and now I can't connect to my work VPN through any three network device (and I have 3 to hand as well as trying other peoples). Three refuse to believe I have an issue, let alone admit they changed something that broke my stuff. I never did find a fix and I wondered if three has changed something again this last week or so and now we're all having issues downloading.

I have a Giffgaff phone that I can use to connect to my workplace so I'm going to buy some data for that and see if I can download onto the Q3.

Hi AbWill thanks for the information and although a few of us have mentioned Three (because we're in the UK), this is also happening in the US on 4G and 5G networks that I don't think are the Three network.
Also, I have like a million devices on my network and I work from home so I have to connect to various other networks, including a work VPN etc and everything works perfectly, never an issue.
The one and only problem I have is with the Quest 3 and only from the end of last week.

I just got to 28GB of 31GB downloading AW2 over vpn which took 5 hours then it failed!
How frustrating!
And it doesn't keep the data previously downloaded so it's start again from the beginning.

I'm on a 5G iPhone connection and yes, as far as I can see this particular issue is related to 4G/5G mobile phone/broadband connections only.
I too had no issues before about a week ago on my Quest 3, and before that no issues for about a year on my Quest Pro (both with the exact same 5G connection).

Oh and not to be confused with 2.4Ghz vs 5Ghz. I tried switching those and the issue is the same.

Hi derek__m, yeah this seems to be what most people are experiencing on this thread....certainly most people that I have spoken to anyway.
I too have been on the same 5G connection for ages now, well over a year and in that time I have used Quest 1, Quest 2 and Quest 3....along with a million other devices on my network and none of them have ever encountered this issue that started for me last week.

Earlier tonight I turned my VPN off and I recorded some logs / a bug report for the engineering team and emailed them, along with a load of details about my ISP, my Three router hardware and connection type etc.
Hopefully they can figure this out from the various people that have submitted reports 🤞

I really hope so. I've cancelled Christmas unless I can download AW2. It's sad for the family but hey, what can you do? ðŸ˜‰

Oh man I feel for you, I really do.
I was without mine for a couple of days until I had the idea about VPN and then I was able to get it downloaded.
I'm certainly not going to rub salt into the wound but from the few hours I have played so far.....it is spectacular, such an incredible title and I really hope you get to download it before xmas mate. 🤞

Hi everyone,

Thanks for sharing the details so far! The team is investigating an issue preventing some games being downloaded from the Meta Quest Store. We apologize for the trouble and understand how frustrating this can be – please know that our teams are actively working on a solution.

We recommend trying to download your game through a different internet provider or connection type if that's possible. We’ve noticed that 5G internet connections seem to be more susceptible to this installation problem.

It will help our engineers greatly if anyone experiencing this issue could file a bug report directly in the headset, mentioning any install or download issues: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/articles/fix-a-problem/troubleshoot-apps-and-features/report-a-bug-on-quest/

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work towards a fix.

Help others find great discussions and answers by adding kudos and marking solutions to your questions.

Normally, uninstalling it and then installing it again fixes these kind of problems.  If this doesn't work, contact Meta support I guess.  If this is also happening with other apps then you may need to do a factory reset.

Some more info:
I noticed that even with using vpn, my downloads were stopping after around 1->2GB. If I disconnect, then reconnect my vpn, it carries on again (without resetting) for another 1->2GB.
It's like there's a cap on the download amount.
Anyway after much starting and stopping and many, many hours I finally downloaded AW2!
Christmas is back on 🙂

Good to hear you managed to get it downloaded!

My downloads on VPN don't stop, so no intervention necessary, they just take longer than they would without it.
