Question

Health Connect not functioning (Android 14 - Quest Move)

Beginning Android 14, Google is moving their Health Connect Google Play app into a native system built-in app. This has caused the Meta Quest app to stop being able to sync data to Health Connect. Most other health apps have already had updates to adjust for this change, but the Meta Quest app still hasn't received an update to solve this.

I'm running the One UI 6 Beta 2 (Android 14) and I cannot get Health Connect set up with the Oculus app because I receive a message stating that the Meta Quest app must be updated to continue integrating with Health Connect.

Hope you can solve this ASAP as I want to sync my Quest Move data again. 🙂

At the moment I see no other alternative other than to manually transfer Quest Move minutes to another app (e.g. Garmin Connect) manually.  And, of course, to keep complaining.

Maybe it will gain more priority after the Samsung + Google headset with Android XR is released.

Of course this is just a guess, but I’m pretty sure there will be Google Health and Samsung Health integration with Android XR. Who knows? Maybe it will even feature proper data correlation based on your wearables, and perhaps include automatic VR workout tracking in the app of your choice.

The use of the usual wearables is also my current workaround. But sometimes I don't wear them and in many cases I just forget to start the tracking, so that the data is very lackluster.

I just spoke with a developer who said he'd love to help bridge the headset to our standard tracking apps but meta isn't allowing third parties in. #thanksZucks

Unfortunately these kinds of issues tend to be less technical and more political. From what I've learned, Meta has asked Google to use their Play Store and other services like this forum's issue. I bet there are issues from both companies that have prevented this kind of collaboration. Hopefully as more attention focuses on these issues from the user base of both companies, they'll find some sort of compromise to benefit the overall XR experience for everyone.

Well.  As of today, we know what Meta's answer is: They've just announced they're discontinuing Move completely, as of the end of March, and will be deleting all user Move data.

From the announcement: "Move currently relies on legacy technology, which limits our ability to introduce new innovations for Quest users. This transition will allow us to deliver more advanced and exciting features to enhance the Quest experience."

I was interrupted by a Meta survey while responding to this post, and here's the feedback I provided to Meta Quest: "Very disappointed in the discontinuance of Move, especially with nothing stated about what, if anything, will replace it, beyond data that individual apps may provide. That's a problem, because fitness app calorie reporting is uneven at best. Move may not be perfect, but the data seems reasonably accurate across a wide range of fitness experiences. And fitness is a lot of what Meta Quest has to offer. This action should be reconsidered, at least unless and until Meta Quest has something better with which to replace it."
