Question

Lists of killer apps and games by user ratings - for the Rift hmds and Quest 1 - 3 with Link

UPDATED JULY 2025

Note that due to the malfunctioning Meta phone app, you cannot find all games using the phone app. Also the PCVR Store shown in the Meta PC App may no longer include all games, but using a normal PC, this link should work:

https://www.meta.com/experiences/pcvr/

If you cannot find a game in the Store, try searching for it in the Store or using an Internet browser. Searching on the internet, to avoid Quest standalone versions, just add the word "Rift".

To get an overview, here're lists of the highest rated games and apps for the Oculus Rift hmds and for Quest 1 & 2 with (Air)Link. If you're new to PC-VR, maybe these lists can be of inspiration - and maybe even old-timers can find stuff they've overlooked...

To be included at least 40 users must have rated a game or an app, and the average user rating must be at least 4.5 stars out of 5 (= 90 % or better) - based on user ratings in the Oculus Rift Store (Steam games or apps are not included). Maybe we could call these lists for grade "A" games and apps - or simply current Rift killer games and apps  😉

And why the need for 40 user ratings? In the Oculus Rift Store there are many games and apps receiving high ratings, but to provide sound statistics it's not enough with just 3 user ratings - or 10 - or even 20. I've chosen 40 because it's close to the minimum number of individuals I'd want in a group, if I was trying to get some robust statistics after collecting answers to a questionnaire (for a medical trial and similar investigations). I've provided the current number of user ratings for each game or app, so if some readers only trust average ratings based on 100, 500 or even 1,000 user ratings, the lists will accommodate for such preferences.

Note that these lists are not influenced by my preferences - I'm just the guy counting user ratings and associated average ratings  o:)
Also note that new awesome games or apps may not yet be on the lists due to an insufficient number of user ratings.

BTW, to make these lists I selected the Oculus Store category containing all games and apps, organized the items according to user ratings (highest ratings first) and then - one by one - checked the number of ratings and the average score.

Finally we could also check which game or app (with an average user rating of at least 90 %) has the most votes in total - and the winner in each category is:

Rift game with the most ratings

Rift app with the most ratings

Zenith just arrived and now has an average rating of 90% based on 67 ratings. Get the game here - 10% off on Steam, full price in the Oculus Store:

Zenith didn't last long - it's now down to 88% with 132 ratings - but it's early access. I've removed the game from the list, but will keep an eye on the game.

I just sat down and updated the lists - that actually did take some time, but also gives me an idea what's moving up or down.

New games added to the list of killer games

Golf+ with an amazing 96% average rating

Gorilla Tag with a 92% average rating

Path of the Warrior with a 90% average rating

Half + Half with a 90% average rating

The Eastern Edge with a 90% average rating

New apps added to the above list

Arden's Wake with an awesome 94% average rating:

- and Nanome with a 92% average rating:

If anyone thinks VR lacks content, have you tried all games and apps on the above lists? - The content listed is the tip of the iceberg. The Rift Store contains a massive amount of gems - and many which cannot be found anywhere else, not even using Steam or Viveport! Even if some are found on Steam, getting the game from the Rift Store will secure support for native Oculus drivers, and that may mean you'll gain about 30% in performance. That's something to think about 😉

Note that Shooty Fruity is on sale on Steam with 60% off (= $8) these days:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/666100/Shooty_Fruity/

I just bought the game and found out that the game has native Oculus drivers support 😍 - so you'll get optimal performance and can play the game without SteamVR starting. A few shots - and graphics are great, this is real PCVR indeed:

Note that the game is full price in the Rift Store (=$20) - seems Meta does not care about all of us using PCVR anymore, sadly.

Bonelab has in less than 24 hours received more than 100 ratings in the Rift Store, and the average rating right now based on 107 ratings is an astonishing 94%:

https://www.oculus.com/experiences/rift/5088709007839657/

Now, the games is cross-buy, and at first I did think that Quest 2 users just copied their Quest 2 standalone impressions for the Rift version, but reading the reviews it does seems that users are rating the PCVR version and not the Quest 2 version. This is interesting, because the Steam version has gotten many negative reviews, while the Rift version has not.

I'll test the Rift version later and see how that goes 🙂

Note that I still frequently monitor which games and apps gain at least 40 ratings and an average score of at least 90%, but most titles in the Rift Store seem to be standing still - that is, they don't gain nor lose ratings. This is a great mystery to me with so many Quest user - but if they buy PCVR games and apps, then they don't rate them 🙂 But nice to see that Bonelab got such an unusual strong response in the Rift Store.

It was a short visit, but Bonelab now got reduced to an average 88% rating and no longer qualifies for the lists.

I just took the temperature on rating changes for the most popular games - those with at least 1,000 ratings in the Rift Store. The changes are spanning 259 days, or 8.5 months:

Seems the Rift Store is close to a stand-still, although Blade & Sorcery did increase nearly 10%. Stormland, Asgard's Wrath and Lone Echo did increase about 1%.

Robo Recall actually decreased - so either some chose to delete their ratings, or maybe ratings are removed if a user profile is removed - I'm just guessing.

Lone Echo, Asgard's Wrath, Stormland and Robo Recall even today are among the finest VR games ever made. In fact it's just with the RTX 3070 and better cards we're finally able to enjoy these games in all their glory. So I do hope more will find these games and truly enjoy them. With 65k ratings for Alyx on Steam, 5k ratings for Lone Echo is way too little - should have been more than 40k - same for Asgard's Wrath. These games are some of the greatest ever made for PCVR and bow to no one.

Or get these games on Steam - I'm sure they will sell well. Like Medal of Honor: Above & Beyond, which has 412 ratings in the Rift Store, and nearly 2,000 ratings on Steam. 2c.

With 56 ratings and an average rating of 4.9, Red Matter 2 is the highest-rated game for the Meta PCVR:

I just checked all games and apps, so the lists in the first post are fresh 😇

Also added Hyper Dash - new with 46 ratings and 94% average rating:

I just checked my orders in the Meta Store - and I have 222 games purchased since my start in September 2017.  I just counted all games I bought per year and got these saddening results. Note that I am fortunate to be able to buy all the games and hardware I want - I could easily be using some RXT 4090 with Aero if I wanted - so these results are not me trying to save money, these results only indicate that there are fewer Rift exclusives:

I topped in 2018 with 77 games. Those were the days 🙂 (But the 35 titles I bought in 2017 was in just 4 months.)

This year I only bought Golf+.

Note that I still spend about $1,000 a year on VR software - but in 2018 I rarely bought Steam games. This year my money goes to Valve and Sony. If there are great games in the Meta Store I'd buy them in an instant - but there really aren't any. PCVR exclusives like Vertigo 2, Firmament, Undead Citadel, Crossfire: Sierra Squad, Arizona Sunshine 2, 7th Guest, Peaky Blinders, Ziggy's Cosmic Adventure, Grimlord, Propagation: Paradise Hotel, Hello Neighbor VR, Humanity VR, F1 23 etc. - none of these 2023 titles are in the Rift Store. Seems Meta has very successfully killed the Rift Store.

I'm not too keen on updating the games and apps in the first post, because many have lost ratings - probably due to Meta closing accounts. This means we're losing earlier ratings. It's not that much for some games - more like maybe 5 - 10 %, but about 20% for other games. Altdeus went from 71 to 68 ratings, Art Plunge from 85 to 78 ratings - and Beat Saber from 15,344 to 13,013. Robo Recall took maybe the biggest dive from 11,352 ratings to 8,773 ratings - could be Meta removing Oculus accounts not migrated to a Meta account, but I'm just guessing.

It's beyond my comprehension why 20+ million Quest owners aren't buying any of the exclusive PCVR games in Meta's Store. You'll find the very best of VR games in there - like Lone Echo 1-2, Asgard's Wrath, Stormland etc.

Still the average ratings have moved so little, today the first post still has the correct average ratings, even if based on slightly fewer ratings. Today I have updated the games in the first post only if a game has gotten more ratings.

One game which has just gotten a 90% average rating based on 45 ratings is an old favorite of mine, namlely:

Find the awesome adventure game here:

https://www.meta.com/experiences/pcvr/1792930504091043/

Today you can enjoy the game using extreme res with modern high-end video cards and get a razor-sharp image quality - this was simply impossible when the game launched in 2018, so enjoy!

Btw, these top-rated games have been removed from the Meta PCVR Store, you can no longer find them in the store by searching nor purchase them - but if you have bought them long ago, they still will/might work:

Space Pirate Trainer

Synth Riders

Bending the Light

Journey of the Gods

Final Assault

In Death

- all but Bending the Light are available on Steam. So Bending the Light may be forever lost, sadly:

Another sad thing, the high-end PCVR version of Wolves in the Walls is gone from the Store and may be lost forever - it was an Oculus exclusive:

Journey of the Gods is a Meta exclusive, and seems to be down for both Rift/PCVR and Quests, I expect that game to be back soon-ish.

Unfortunately the Meta phone app does not work correctly, if you try to see all current PCVR games, the app will only show a few. But using a PC, this page still works - and seems to include all the thousands of games and apps:
