Question

Oculus TrayTool - SuperSampling profiles, HMD disconnect fixes (hopefully)

Oculus Tray Tool
current version: 0.87.3

What is it?
In short; It’s a free application that helps you get the most out of your Rift. It is developed by me, ApollyonVR, with the support of the community for beta testing. Please note that this application is not an official piece software from Oculus, I am not affiliated with Oculus in any way. Any issues you
have with this application should be reported to me and not Oculus support. You can reach me here on the forums or by contacting me at *REDACTED*

Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) has many features that will hopefully help you get the very best VR experience. It has options that help you automatically switch audio and microphone to the Rift and back, handle the Oculus runtime service, voice commands, batch import Steam games (added to OTT by the awesome headkaze over at http://headsoft.com.au), replace icons for your games and more.

It’s primary feature however, is the ability to create “Profiles” for you VR Games and apps.
Within these Profiles, you set how Asyncronous SpaceWarp (ASW) should act, increase the perceived resolution by using Supersampling and increase the CPU Priority of a given app to get the most juice out of your system for that specific application.
Once a Profile has been created for a game or app, OTT will detect when it is started and apply the
profile for it, without the need for taking your headset of.

If you want to have a peek at all the things OTT can do for you before installing the application, check the User Guide pdf. The latest version of this application will always be right below this intro, but the app also checks for available updates on startup.

Enjoy, have fun and please report any issues, suggestion or feature requests to me using the above mentioned methods. Oh, and feel free to buy me a coffee by using the PayPal button in-app. 🙂

The very nice people over at Guru3d.com have been kind enough to host some mirrors for the setups, so make sure to pay them a visit!

UPDATE 03/08

Hi all!
It's been a while since i released a new version, but now the time has come! 😃
I'm looking for ppl who want to test the new version before public release.
There are primarily changes for the Quest but anyone is welcome to test it.
Just drop an email to *REDACTED* and i'll get you a download link
and some instructions. Also include what type of headset (Rift or Quest)
that you are using.

Also, i now have a proper domain for the website, so swing by www.ApollyonVR.com
and check out the new Forum! If you have questions, comments or suggestions

that is the place to post them. 😃

Below are the release notes for the new version. Please note that this is a Beta version

for testing the new features. If you just want to use a stable version of OTT then head

over to www.apollyonvr.com and simply download the latest version.

Version 0.87.7
* Oculus Dash will now use the same CPU Priority as what you set for OVR Server.
* Added a "Comments" option to Profiles.
* Implemented Paolod29's code for a permanent AirLink (https://github.com/pd29/oculus-airlink-enabler).
* Added more choices to the Quest Link settings for "Bitrate" and "Encode Resolution".
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added option for "Dynamic Bitrate Max" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added "FOV Multiplier" to Profiles. Setting this to a value lower than 1, for example 0.8,
will increase FPS due to less pixels being drawn at the expense of lower FOV.
* When creating a brand new Profile, the current settings from the Game Settings tab will be used.
This will make it even easier to create a new Profile! Simply experiment with different settings
on the Game Settings tab, and when you have found the perfect combo for a given game those
settings are copied over when you click "Create new Profile".

* Added option to Disable profiles.

* Redesigned the Profiles window a bit.
* Fixed some bugs.

Cheers!

@SchmockLord As @TomCgcmfc mentions, OTT is limited in how it can interact with Link. But i can for sure add an option in the profiles that let's you set the desktop resolution to use when that profile is used. Would that work for you? So i'll see what i can do and get you something to test.

Cheers!

That would be super useful! At the moment I'm switching resolution between various apps to get the best visuals without cooking my GPU. :)

I have a 1080p gaming monitor (currently set at 100Hz refresh rate) and I do not find that changing its resolution makes any difference with my PCVR performance.  Maybe if I had a high res 4K monitor this might be more worthwhile?

Ah, my bad, completely misunderstood the OP. Thought he was talking about setting the resolution output of the Quest from the PC app.

No problem mate, it was not all that clear to me either, lol!  I'm not sure how useful being able to do this would be for most of us with standard sized gaming monitors.  Plus, I think he could do this using win10 display settings anyway prior to jumping into VR.  I guess if it was an easy addon to Game profiles (unlike scaling imho) it could be useful for some though.

@ApollyonVR  I just notice that looking at my log file, which I do once in a while to check that my Global SS and ASW settings have been done, I noticed that OTT says SteamVR is running, then SteamVR is off, and it sometimes does this twice.  I do have Steam loaded in the background but I do not have SteamVR running.  Is this normal or have I made some settings change elsewhere that might be causing OTT to do this?  Does not seem to cause any problems, I was just wondering since I've never noticed this before.  Thanks mate and cheers.

@TomCgcmfc Drop me the ott.log and i'll have a look and see. I'm looking to perhaps add support for pure SteamVR environments, so i've started adding some code for that. Not sure how useful that will be though, since SteamVR already has many of the features OTT bring to the Oculus platform. But, it's a work in progress so we'll see where it ends up =) So, if at any time SteamVR's "vrserver" starts or stop, you will see a message about this. But let me take a peek at the logs to confirm.

Cheers!

Ok, here's a section for my log file that covers the last session.  I don't see too many odd things, just the SteamVR running/stopped thing.  Anyway, if you see anything strange please let me know.  Thanks mate and cheers.

@TomCgcmfc Yea, those messages are from my testing with pure steamvr installations. Will remove those parts in the next release as the code is not finished, so no need to have it in there. Yet. =)

Cheers!

@ApollyonVR  I've used OTT to start/stop ovr services for a long time now.  I do this because I run a dual PCVR headset setup (Rift cv1 and Vive Pro).  I have never seen where Global SS and ASW settings have not worked as expected.

Yes, I have to agree. Using OTT to Stop/Start OVR services is a great option to have. I use it all the time for this myself as I have the Rift S + G2 both installed in my system. When I want to use the G2 I stop the OVR...else the Rift S takes over. I also use it when the Rift S isn't responding and has an orange LED. Instead of unplugging, I just restart OVR service and that always fixes this. Saves wear and tear on the plugs in my system. Also been using it since first release.

Thanks mate.  At least it does not appear to be causing me any problems so far.  Funny that sometimes it goes through this SteamVR Run/Stop once, and sometimes up to 4x.  It will be very interesting to see how your SteamVR version of OTT works out.  Good luck and cheers.

Hi, thanks for your program, it's very useful. I wanted to ask if it was possible to insert the number of FPS in a point of the view that is not central. Thanks again.

ApollyonVR,

As our long time Oculus headset guru, I've always been curious, what headset do you use ? Still on a CV1 or did you upgrade to something else ?

@kaossino Well, i don't actually draw the overlays myself, it's the oculus debug tool that does that, and there is currently now way to move those panels. So for now, there is not much i can do about that. =/

@@ShocksVR I still have the CV1 in my drawer as backup but the Rift S is currently my daily driver. But i will be trying out something new soon and with that, hopefully bring some new stuff to OTT.
