Question

Oculus TrayTool - SuperSampling profiles, HMD disconnect fixes (hopefully)

Oculus Tray Tool
current version: 0.87.3

What is it?
In short; It’s a free application that helps you get the most out of your Rift. It is developed by me, ApollyonVR, with the support of the community for beta testing. Please note that this application is not an official piece software from Oculus, I am not affiliated with Oculus in any way. Any issues you
have with this application should be reported to me and not Oculus support. You can reach me here on the forums or by contacting me at *REDACTED*

Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) has many features that will hopefully help you get the very best VR experience. It has options that help you automatically switch audio and microphone to the Rift and back, handle the Oculus runtime service, voice commands, batch import Steam games (added to OTT by the awesome headkaze over at http://headsoft.com.au), replace icons for your games and more.

It’s primary feature however, is the ability to create “Profiles” for you VR Games and apps.
Within these Profiles, you set how Asyncronous SpaceWarp (ASW) should act, increase the perceived resolution by using Supersampling and increase the CPU Priority of a given app to get the most juice out of your system for that specific application.
Once a Profile has been created for a game or app, OTT will detect when it is started and apply the
profile for it, without the need for taking your headset of.

If you want to have a peek at all the things OTT can do for you before installing the application, check the User Guide pdf. The latest version of this application will always be right below this intro, but the app also checks for available updates on startup.

Enjoy, have fun and please report any issues, suggestion or feature requests to me using the above mentioned methods. Oh, and feel free to buy me a coffee by using the PayPal button in-app. 🙂

The very nice people over at Guru3d.com have been kind enough to host some mirrors for the setups, so make sure to pay them a visit!

UPDATE 03/08

Hi all!
It's been a while since i released a new version, but now the time has come! 😃
I'm looking for ppl who want to test the new version before public release.
There are primarily changes for the Quest but anyone is welcome to test it.
Just drop an email to *REDACTED* and i'll get you a download link
and some instructions. Also include what type of headset (Rift or Quest)
that you are using.

Also, i now have a proper domain for the website, so swing by www.ApollyonVR.com
and check out the new Forum! If you have questions, comments or suggestions

that is the place to post them. 😃

Below are the release notes for the new version. Please note that this is a Beta version

for testing the new features. If you just want to use a stable version of OTT then head

over to www.apollyonvr.com and simply download the latest version.

Version 0.87.7
* Oculus Dash will now use the same CPU Priority as what you set for OVR Server.
* Added a "Comments" option to Profiles.
* Implemented Paolod29's code for a permanent AirLink (https://github.com/pd29/oculus-airlink-enabler).
* Added more choices to the Quest Link settings for "Bitrate" and "Encode Resolution".
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added option for "Dynamic Bitrate Max" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added "FOV Multiplier" to Profiles. Setting this to a value lower than 1, for example 0.8,
will increase FPS due to less pixels being drawn at the expense of lower FOV.
* When creating a brand new Profile, the current settings from the Game Settings tab will be used.
This will make it even easier to create a new Profile! Simply experiment with different settings
on the Game Settings tab, and when you have found the perfect combo for a given game those
settings are copied over when you click "Create new Profile".

* Added option to Disable profiles.

* Redesigned the Profiles window a bit.
* Fixed some bugs.

Cheers!

I recently started to test and use the voice commands. When I launch the Tray Tool and start the Oculus service, Tray Tool defaults to my pc's current microphone. After I launch a SteamVR game, it switches my pc audio and mic to my Quest 2. However, the voice command microphone is set to the original mic and not the Quest 2.

Would it be possible to add an option to set the voice command input microphone to be a static input device?

The CFS Mic is my default mic. When I launch the Tray Tool, the Tray Tool app log states that the input microphone for voice commands is set to the CFS Mic. I want to set it to the Oculus Virtual Audio Device so that I can use voice commands.

I have a workaround that sometimes works. While Oculus Link is already running and in-game, if I toggle the Voice Commands option from enabled to disabled, it sometimes then sets itself to the Quest 2 microphone and then I can use the voice command.

Thank you for your help!

Would it be possible to get a toggle for HDR on/off when the Oculus client starts and exits? Currently HDR doesn't work properly with desktop view so it's a hassle to have to disable and enable it every time we start vr.

Hi. Your latest OTT won't hook properly with Air Link. I have to manually quit your app and restart it for the second time for it to work properly. This issue wasn't there two versions ago.. All profiles are deleted and cleansed db

Anonymous OTT works perfect with Air Link for me.  You should startup OTT prior to starting up the Oculus app btw.

I found it best to go to the OTT Link tab and disable it there.  I think this may interfere with your Oculus desktop app settings.  I think it's best to just use the current recommended Oculus desktop app device/Q2/ Quality settings (refresh and res) plus the Q2 dashboard menu air link bitrate at Dynamic/100mbps, at least to start off with.

If you use the same settings as you did with your Link cable you may run into problems.  Look at your Oculus Debug Tool and make sure everything is set to defaults (eg. esp. encoding, set to 0 = default).  Lots of info on this already.

I use OTT with Air Link mainly just to control SS and ASW (Globally and with Game Profiles).  Also, I like its audio switcher and ability to turn on/off the Oculus runtime services.  I don't really bother with it's other features.  I have used OTT for a long time, starting with my Rift cv1, and it has been, and continues to be one of the most useful addons for good VR imho.

BTW, I really like that OTT works so well with Air Link.  This is not the case with wireless using Virtual Desktop because the VD developer has needed to use his own version of Oculus runtime.  Too bad since had he been given the rights to utilise this we would have had a better Air Link platform a lot earlier.

Also, if you have not none so, please read the OTT manual.  It contains a lot of useful info.  Not updated to include Air Link yet though.

Hi TomCgcmfc How do you disable it in the Link section? I've actually touched nothing.. All I did was to do a completely clean OTT install and set the pixel density. Nothing else is touched other than "start up with windows". I've never had this issue before, so it's new

Does the default super sampling option affect link resolution at all?  either air or cable?

xeno3d  With my Q2 I find it best with either Link or Air Link to disable the OTT Link options.  Then I use OTT to set global SS and ASW.  I have a fairly strong pc (rtx3090) so I set my global ss = 1.6 and ASW = off.  I then use OTT game profiles to finetune some games/sims a little more.  I'm also doing exactly the same with my Q1 w/Link (no Air Link for this yet).  Both SS and ASW function like your would expect.

Just make sure that with Air Link you have a look at ODT and make sure the res = 0.  Follow the Oculus Air Link setup for more info;

I've noticed that OculusTrayTool has a tendency to silently crash I presume. It's set to autostart on boot, and it does launch on boot, but occasionally it just disappears from the tray and I have to remember to relaunch it before launching the Oculus app.

How do I begin diagnosing/fixing this?

ReduxPL  The win10 auto startup with OTT has been an issue for a long time so I do not recommend you use this.  I just copy the OTT short cut (with admin permissions btw) to my task bar, next to my Oculus app icon.  That way I pretty well always get the OTT/Oculus app startup right.  Also, since I have a dual PCVR setup (w/Vive Pro) I use the OTT option to turn on/off Oculus runtime services (on when I startup OTT, off when I close OTT).  The OTT audio switcher is pretty useful as well imho.

tolgayilmaz86  I just tried to download the latest version from the OTT website no problem.  Maybe check your virus checker and/or firewall is not the problem.

Also, some servers can be down for maintenance occasionally so maybe try again later.

Hi just checked the source links I got SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG error on firefox (on edge as well)
Since I'm having no issues on other versions decided to investigate further and compared the workink link(0.87.3) and encountered a difference like below.
When I changed the usrfiles.com -> filesusr.com I was able to download 0.87.4.

Hi ApollyonVR

Any way to render in one screen on Rift CV1 (monocular rendering)?

I Know can sound strange ask for this, but some people blind of an eye are looking for a solution to improve performance.

Thanks in advice.

Any idea why TT does not save OVR server Priortiy? I set it to High and save each time I've started it despite; it shows up with an empty field of priority each time again?

oculus homeless not working with airlink

markhollis You do not really need the homeless option anymore.  Just go to your Oculus desktop app settings general tab and at the bottom, disable start in Oculus Home.  Next time you will then startup in a homeless void.  You can still access your home using the dashboard menu.

tolgayilmaz86 Maybe drill down your oculus runtime to see what the ovr64 services are set to.  Maybe it just remembers this.  Personally I have never seen any advantages to increasing this above Normal (default).  I have noticed that sometimes this OTT menu is blank but when I drill down to check it the priority is normal.  With current win10 updates you really do not need to much around with these anymore imho.  BTW, I also use OTT to turn on my Oculus runtime services when I start up OTT and stop them when I exit OTT.

Is it a possibility that you can make a function to have AirLink always active? It's so annoying having to go in to options all the time.
