Question

Oculus TrayTool - SuperSampling profiles, HMD disconnect fixes (hopefully)

Oculus Tray Tool
current version: 0.87.3

What is it?
In short; It’s a free application that helps you get the most out of your Rift. It is developed by me, ApollyonVR, with the support of the community for beta testing. Please note that this application is not an official piece software from Oculus, I am not affiliated with Oculus in any way. Any issues you
have with this application should be reported to me and not Oculus support. You can reach me here on the forums or by contacting me at *REDACTED*

Oculus Tray Tool (OTT) has many features that will hopefully help you get the very best VR experience. It has options that help you automatically switch audio and microphone to the Rift and back, handle the Oculus runtime service, voice commands, batch import Steam games (added to OTT by the awesome headkaze over at http://headsoft.com.au), replace icons for your games and more.

It’s primary feature however, is the ability to create “Profiles” for you VR Games and apps.
Within these Profiles, you set how Asyncronous SpaceWarp (ASW) should act, increase the perceived resolution by using Supersampling and increase the CPU Priority of a given app to get the most juice out of your system for that specific application.
Once a Profile has been created for a game or app, OTT will detect when it is started and apply the
profile for it, without the need for taking your headset of.

If you want to have a peek at all the things OTT can do for you before installing the application, check the User Guide pdf. The latest version of this application will always be right below this intro, but the app also checks for available updates on startup.

Enjoy, have fun and please report any issues, suggestion or feature requests to me using the above mentioned methods. Oh, and feel free to buy me a coffee by using the PayPal button in-app. 🙂

The very nice people over at Guru3d.com have been kind enough to host some mirrors for the setups, so make sure to pay them a visit!

UPDATE 03/08

Hi all!
It's been a while since i released a new version, but now the time has come! 😃
I'm looking for ppl who want to test the new version before public release.
There are primarily changes for the Quest but anyone is welcome to test it.
Just drop an email to *REDACTED* and i'll get you a download link
and some instructions. Also include what type of headset (Rift or Quest)
that you are using.

Also, i now have a proper domain for the website, so swing by www.ApollyonVR.com
and check out the new Forum! If you have questions, comments or suggestions

that is the place to post them. 😃

Below are the release notes for the new version. Please note that this is a Beta version

for testing the new features. If you just want to use a stable version of OTT then head

over to www.apollyonvr.com and simply download the latest version.

Version 0.87.7
* Oculus Dash will now use the same CPU Priority as what you set for OVR Server.
* Added a "Comments" option to Profiles.
* Implemented Paolod29's code for a permanent AirLink (https://github.com/pd29/oculus-airlink-enabler).
* Added more choices to the Quest Link settings for "Bitrate" and "Encode Resolution".
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" on the Game Settings tab.
* Added option for "Force Mipmap generation on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Offset Mipmap bias on all layers" to Profiles.
* Added option for "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added option for "Dynamic Bitrate Max" on the Quest Link tab.
* Added "FOV Multiplier" to Profiles. Setting this to a value lower than 1, for example 0.8,
will increase FPS due to less pixels being drawn at the expense of lower FOV.
* When creating a brand new Profile, the current settings from the Game Settings tab will be used.
This will make it even easier to create a new Profile! Simply experiment with different settings
on the Game Settings tab, and when you have found the perfect combo for a given game those
settings are copied over when you click "Create new Profile".

* Added option to Disable profiles.

* Redesigned the Profiles window a bit.
* Fixed some bugs.

Cheers!

Well it depends. If you launch steamvr using the steamvr integration in 0.68, profiles will not work for some reason. I need some more time to test and find out why. It is "probably" caused by the fact that when you launch steamvr from Home, the oculus service will not accept any more commands, or they do not affect any game launched when steamvr is running. Since steamvr is a vr app of it's own, it might not be possible to apply SS to a another vr app, since one (e.g. SteamVR) is already running. But, if you launch the game using a direct shortcut, (like a shortcut on your desktop) e.g. not from within steamvr, SS is applied according to the setting in the profile. You can also set the SS using the dropdown or with voice commands before launching steamvr from Home, and the SS will be applied.

Hope that answers it? I will keep testing as much as i can.

Good to know, I always wondered why it suddenly stopped to work with Steam games.

This is how I am launching the game.
Not from Steam VR.

I click the game's .exe.
It, along with Steam VR , launches.
I am then playing the game in Steam VR.

I was curious if my PD setting I had assigned in the profile was working, so that is why I turned the overlay on. But it read 1.5 whether I had a pixel density set to whatever number or whether I had none set, always read 1.5 in the overlay while  in the game, or just at Oculus Home screen.

Now just based on my observations of the actual game image, it does appear to be working as I have experimented with different PD settings - at least pretty sure it is.

OK, I am a bit stumped...

I have OTT running OK, it responds to voice commands as it should  and I have a guess what should happen as far as a HUD but I am not getting anything.

I can say 'show pixel density' and other commands and they work and are updated in the GUI.  I am then expecting something to appear when wearing the rift but nothing comes up?

I have only tried it in one game and oculus home as that is quite convenient to play around in.   What am I not doing to get a HUD to appear?

Thank!

Just  in case anyone doesn't know, if you don't need to launch games from Oculus Home (in my case my main VR titles are racing simulators that are not Oculus home linked).
Today I got the prompt to update to 1.13 and even though it shows in the actual Oculus itself, I don't need to update the software to have my SIMS launch without a hitch.
I'm waiting tor Apollyon to release his update, until then I'm simply ignoring the intrusive BS Oculus is trying to push on us.

Hope this is helpful.

I never got a prompt to update, mine just updated by itself - now I am showing 1.13, without any input from myself at all.

I edited my comment. As soon as I closed the Oculus home it forced the update.
Hopefully the deve has had the update also and a fix is soon

Sorry if this has been asked before.
When the tray tool starts the little round circle icon at the bottom is yellow, which indicates that the Rift power management is enabled.
I right clicked and disabled and a couple of hours later when playing iRacing I noticed the rift video was stuttering.
It could be that my PC also updated to the Creator version 1703 of Windows 10, so not blaming the tool.
I've since re-imaged my PC to the previous version of Windows 1607 and have blocked the creator update.
I haven't disabled rift power management in the OTT yet, as things are working perfectly again and am worried that this could cause the issues to resurface>

Could the stuttering have anything to do with this function in the OTT?
If not, what are the benefits of disabling this function in the OTT??

Thanks.

@Globespy The power management features as well as the Inateck tweaks/power management are there to help with disconnects. If you are not having disconnects there is no need to use those tweaks and you can ignore the warnings.
@jasonh If you use the Visual HUD Overlay dropdown instead of voice commands, and select a Mode like Pixel Density, do you see a HUD appear in the headset?

@ApollyonVR  Thanks for replying,  it's working now!  Doing what you suggested hadn't worked before but after seeing your reply and remembering that while setting up 3 sensors yesterday oculus did an update I thought I would try again.

I am not sure if I was out of date or there was a new update yesterday but it is going now.

    Thanks again.
