Quest 3 Controllers are not aligned in game?

  • I’ve noticed that in a lot of games, (banter, bigscreen, pavlov, breachers) the hands don’t line up with where my controllers are pointing, instead they point outwards. This is not an issue with the quests menu ui, they line up fine when im navigating quest menus. It is in game where this appears.

NOT A SOLUTION - MARKING FOR VISABILITY

Hey guys! I wanted to let you know that I've been talking with our engineers for a while about this issue. They recommend that you reach out to support so you can see what replacement options might be available for you. I know this is not the ideal solution you were hoping for, but this may be able to help with re-aligning the controllers for your Quest 3's. If you follow this link, then follow the steps that best describe this issue, and you'll be able to send an email, chat, or WhatsApp message to support.

Hey there, raygon2000. Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention! While hate to hear you're having an issue being able to enjoy your games while using your controllers, we'd love to get you up and running smoothly!

To get started, we'd like to refresh the controllers by resetting them:

  • Use the correct button combination to start the factory reset process.
    • Right: Hold the A button and tap the Home (Meta logo) button 5 times.
    • Left: Hold the X button and tap the Menu button 5 times.
  • The LED will blink orange/white while the factory reset is being performed.
  • The LED will then change to light-blue during boot.
  • Controllers can be used again as normal once boot completes.
  • The LED will blink orange/white while the factory reset is being performed.
  • The LED will then change to light-blue during boot.
  • Controllers can be used again as normal once boot completes.\
  • If they need to be cleaned, ensure the customer follows the maintenance and care guidelines.
  • Remove the battery from the controller for at least 30 seconds
  • Unpair and pair again the controller to the headset

Let us know if this works for you. We'll be looking forward to hearing back from you on this.

It’s still an issue.

Hello, I also have the same issue with my Quest 3 controllers.

They point "outwards" by about 15 degrees from where hand naturally points, and as it would in my Quest 2. I swap between headsets and notice an immediate difference. I used Open XR settings to apply a -15 degree rotation correction in PCVR to get my Quest 3 controllers to feel and align naturally like my Quest 2 controllers do.

I've tried the supplied instructions above, factory reset, removed battery, unpaired and repaired.

Hey

How did you do this?

Open XR is intimidating for the average person and they can mess their settings up if they aren't sure about what they are doing.   I have heard a few people say this is what they did to correct it until meta does something.  The consumers shouldn't have to do this either.  It's unbelievable the lack of response with meta.  It's not just this issue.  There are major tracking issues too that aren't getting resolved or they can't resolve.  I'm sure the list goes on forever if the department is anything like the moderation and official responses on this forum.

I have the same problem with the quest 3 controllers. When playing PCVR games using Airlink or Virtual Desktop, as well as when playing standalone meta quest games such as Onward, the in-game controller direction is rotated out about 20 degrees laterally from where it should be. This makes it hard to use a gunstock in Onward. Please fix it or allow us to modify it.

Hey guys, could you confirm if you're both still having this issue? If you still do notice any issues with the controller, then I suggest reaching out to MetaQuestSupport via PM. They'll be able to assist further with troubleshooting and any other possibilities.

Yeah, I'm definitely having this issue too. It feels like you should be aiming straight but 100% has a right bias by about 10 or 15 degrees. Playing standalone Pavlov or Ghost of Tabor and also on PCVR

Same here. I build my own gun stocks. Q2 pointers are aligned (left and right controllers beams are facing the same direction). If you insert in Q3 controllers into the gun stock, the left beam points 15 degrees more left, and right 15 degrees more right. This cause the gun stock not to work, as the front hand controller cannot grab the barrel because its half a foot away from the barrel. I needed to redesign the gun stock.

Hi michael.swift11! Making sure your sights on your virtual weapon are accurate is key for you to have success with any of the VR shooter games. It can be annoying thinking you have a clear shot on an opponent or object only to miss by inches.  So don't worry, we will help you zero in your sights and get back to shooting straight once more.

So that we are able to determine what steps to begin with to resolve this issue you are facing, please answer the following:

  • Are you having any controller issues in any other games?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you attempted for this issue?

We look forward to your reply.

THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION - MARKING FOR VISABILITY

Hey guys! I saw that you're having trouble with your controllers not aligning properly in games, but they are okay when you're in the menu. I want to get our engineering teams involved so we can look into this further. Before I do, though, can you share with me some information? Can you let me know if your headsets are under the v59 update or if you're part of the PTC program for v60? Can you also let me know if you've tried resetting the controllers by removing the batteries for about 10 minutes? Let me know whenever you can!

Hi.

Whenever I play a shooter on the quest 3 the controller angle seems to be off when pointing the gun straight forward as you would hold/point a gun in reality. It is not up or down but to the side (I am a lefty and in a regular gun holding position the virtual gun points to the left instead of straight).

Any recommendations how to solve this?

I'm right-handed, and I feel like I'm holding the gun to the right, and I feel like the controller is pointing differently than before.

Please give us the option to calibrate the angle. It's really an issue.
