Question

Sony next-gen PlayStation5 VR 120Hz 4K oled hmd (=PSVR2) - can now be used for PCVR too!

EDIT: See the new specs here:

Original post:

Close to breaking news - if true - I just love oled so much more than LCD (well at least if oled gets similar ultra-low SDE like modern lcd panels):

"One important holdout remains: Sony Group Corp. plans to use Samsung Display Co. OLED panels in its next-generation PlayStation VR goggles, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The Japanese console giant sold more than 5 million units of the original PS VR, launched in 2016, and is aiming to release the successor in the holiday period next year, the people said, asking not to be named discussing internal plans."

Depending on the panel, lcd could still have more subpixels and higher res (like Vive Pro 2) - there're tons of things we don't know yet. And Sony hasn't confirmed anything.

Red arrow marks the arrival (first impact) of PSVR2 oled 🙂

Hitman has arrived for PSVR2, and all seem to love this version of the game, while everyone dislikes the Quest and PCVR versions:

I beg to differ though - sure, the PSVR2 version might be great, but when you get used to the controls, the PCVR version is truly awesome - this version - check out the thread for many screenshots:

So I'm not going to downgrade to the PSVR2 version - but maybe I should get back to playing the PCVR version ðŸ¤” ðŸ˜€

Wanderer - Fragments of Fate is out on PSVR2 and Quest. UploadVR made a video showing the massive improvements of the PSVR2 version - but the PSVR2 using eye-tracker foveated rendering is about 7 times faster than the extremely low-end Quest 3 (which can do about 2 tflops with slow ram, PS5 is equivalent to about 15 tflops with fast ram when using eye-tracker foveated rendering):

As shown, Quest 3 lacks real-time lightning and even poly levels have been cut by reducing some assets like trees/leaves. How much can you cut before the game is significantly different and severely reduced for immersion? Right now we see the following ratings:

PS5/PSVR2: Average 93% rating based on 179 ratings.

Quests 2-3: Average 72% rating based on 106 ratings.

Seems the game is already tanking on the Quests.

The days where Quest was a strong force seems gone - we now have several VR games getting more ratings for both PCVR and PSVR2 than for the Quests. Maybe due to too many small kids having a Quest - and kids do not buy games made for adults.

The game is performing at solid 90 fps with the PSVR2, so there are no reprojections.  Another advantage of the PS5 is that you'll be able to get the game on a disc - and can easily sell the game when completed:

Seems Llamasoft has abandoned everything VR, except for the PS5/PSVR2. Their new arcade game "I, Robot" only supports PS5 and PSVR2 for VR:

Might sound like a simple and uninteresting game, but nothing could be further from the truth, as Jeff Minter is the king of bringing awesome old-school arcade games back to life. Find the game here:

Rated a solid 85% here for the VR version:

In the PS Store, the game has a massive 97% average rating based on 50 ratings.

A new exclusive, even made or funded by Sony, just arrived - but an educational app:

It's not bad - and a 9GB download - and it's free, get it here:

https://www.playstation.com/games/climate-station/

Epyka also lauched and has been much enhanced compared to the Quest version - but it still looks too much like another bottom-end Quest port to me with no proper lighting or shadows, I'll await the highest-end PCVR version:

The PSVR2 version is inexpensive and does run in solid 90 fps, find the game here for just 10 bucks:
