Question

Superhot is super overrated

I know I will get a lot of flack for this post, but here goes. Sometimes it seems that rift users will fawn all over a game simply because it's touch enabled. The fact is that  Superhot is not all that hot, and not  for reasons some may think.

I don't have a problem with it because it's "too short." I find that if a short game is really compelling, you can play it over and over again and continue to get something out of it.  I also love "the Matrix" style graphics.  My main beef with the game is that the game mechanics are all wrong.

I throw an ashtray at an enemy's torso and in the next split-second he completely dodges it.  I throw a bottle at an enemy and in the blink of an eye  he shoots it, shattering it to smithereens. I shoot a bullet at an enemy that would clearly hit them head-on and he dodges it. Obviously, since bullets move much faster than people do, this would be impossible.

Then there are the times when the game won't let me pick up an object. When you reach toward an object and come within range, it should be covered with a set of thin blue lines, but sometimes this does not happen, causing the player to lose.  Most players would consider this unacceptable with other games.

The worst part is, hits that should count but don't. I will make a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head and it goes right through.  This happens A LOT.  Plus the game seems to forget that I have arms too, not just hands. If my hand is held up at right angles to the enemy, that means that my elbow is blocking his swing! Even if you want to consider me a couple of disembodied hands, a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head should count every time, not just when the game feels like it.

This game is supposed to make you feel like a superhero. I don't. I just feel frustrated.

If you really had the ability to slow down time, it would be no contest and your enemies wouldn't stand a chance. The developers, realizing this, put in a lot of handicaps that shouldn't exist  simply to make the game artificially challenging.

Indeed, if this was intended to be a super-accurate simulation of real life.

however, as the world that you are fighting in is a virtual world,a game even, within a Rift VR game, some of that realism has apparently been removed.

for example, as a real world would not be very likely to freeze, when you aren't moving, I think we can safely say that this isn't intended to be a real life simulation.

at the end of the day, for me at least, it is a thoroughly entertaining and challenging VR experience.

This is not the way  shooting works.  If I shoot at a fast-moving person or animal, I don't have to say "OK, they're moving rapidly, therefore I have to shoot slightly in front of them so the bullet will get them at that place when they arrive."

You may not have to say it but you do have to do it. It's called shooting with lead.
Shit man, you have to do this in almost every fps and in really life.

You sir are clearly far too used to console aimbot mechanics.

Not at those distances, so his point still stands, it's far from realistic. Some people may enjoy the gameplay but he is making valid points.

He would be, if the fact that slow motion isn't tied directly into the game. If it was slow enough time for you to dodge bullets (a necessary component to the game) then the people running at you would not be moving at all in comparison. If that were the case the bad guys would all die before they could even take a step, as you could simply aim for the head where you see it and pop them instantly. What elboffer is speaking of is known commonly (at least in the states) as kentucky windage, you have to account for gravity (since it can easily drop bullets inches to feet and father depending on the velocity of your round and the distance to the target) and windspeed/direction when firing real bullets. Why do you think skillful snipers irl are hard to train and highly regarded? You cannot just line up the crosshairs and shoot, as you'll miss every time.

    Here's an actual definition:
    Noun. Kentucky windage ‎(plural Kentucky
windages) (US, slang) An adjustment made by a shooter to correct for
wind (or motion of the target) by aiming at a point horizontal to the
target's position in the sight rather than by adjusting the sight to
    compensate.

I've shot many different guns irl at shooting ranges, and you have to apply this, or give up on trying to increase your aim. It may be exaggerated in game, but not overly so that it doesn't work or breaks the game.

@OpticKing I understand that this is a gameplay  mechanic and not designed to be realistic, I'm just saying that it's valid reasons not to enjoy the game.  I only commented on it because one comment made the assumption that he must be used to "console aimbot mechanics", but maybe he just doesn't like the gameplay in Superhot.

Right, but point the OP was making was that superhot is super overrated, making that assumption on the basis that he doesn't like the mechanics isn't a good review. I don't like racing games at all, but I don't claim project cars or dirt rally/etc are overrated because I don't like their mechanics. I can see how someone might be offended by claiming he must be used to "console aimbot mechanics" but his argument on its own is not a valid reason to belittle the game and claim, "Sometimes it seems that rift users will fawn all over a game simply because it's touch enabled." as the op did. He can not like the game all he wants, but it genuinely appears that he simply lacks the technical skill needed to actually play the game, that's no reason to insult it or us.

Your right, which is why I also stated earlier that when so many gamers like something there must be something to it. I think the way he talks like it's an over rated game is unfounded. I just think the attack was a little more directed at him than what is actually wrong in his post, which is his statement that it's over rated because he doesn't like the mechanics.

I would agree, he should have directed his comments toward the opinion instead of him individually. However it seems that it stemmed from frustration that the op was disregarding the advice many had posted before, and continuing to claim it's buggy and unrefined because he can't aim at a head then shoot and have that head instantly pop. Which would essentially break the game if that were the case. It's not so much that he doesn't like the mechanics, it's more that he's unable to compensate his play style to adhere to the core mechanics of the game.

This game should be called Super Slow. I'd say a tortoise with arthritis could move quicker then those enemy red guys. I think my 90 yr old Gran would have no problem dispatching them, but she refuses to wear the VR headset in case it ruins her perm LoL.

I can't imagine not loving this game. It's what vr is all about.

I realise that you might just be making a comedic comment, but just in case you hadn't grasped it, the point of the game is that the hostiles only move when you do, so technically they are just as fast as you are.  :)
