Question

Superhot is super overrated

I know I will get a lot of flack for this post, but here goes. Sometimes it seems that rift users will fawn all over a game simply because it's touch enabled. The fact is that  Superhot is not all that hot, and not  for reasons some may think.

I don't have a problem with it because it's "too short." I find that if a short game is really compelling, you can play it over and over again and continue to get something out of it.  I also love "the Matrix" style graphics.  My main beef with the game is that the game mechanics are all wrong.

I throw an ashtray at an enemy's torso and in the next split-second he completely dodges it.  I throw a bottle at an enemy and in the blink of an eye  he shoots it, shattering it to smithereens. I shoot a bullet at an enemy that would clearly hit them head-on and he dodges it. Obviously, since bullets move much faster than people do, this would be impossible.

Then there are the times when the game won't let me pick up an object. When you reach toward an object and come within range, it should be covered with a set of thin blue lines, but sometimes this does not happen, causing the player to lose.  Most players would consider this unacceptable with other games.

The worst part is, hits that should count but don't. I will make a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head and it goes right through.  This happens A LOT.  Plus the game seems to forget that I have arms too, not just hands. If my hand is held up at right angles to the enemy, that means that my elbow is blocking his swing! Even if you want to consider me a couple of disembodied hands, a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head should count every time, not just when the game feels like it.

This game is supposed to make you feel like a superhero. I don't. I just feel frustrated.

If you really had the ability to slow down time, it would be no contest and your enemies wouldn't stand a chance. The developers, realizing this, put in a lot of handicaps that shouldn't exist  simply to make the game artificially challenging.

I have to admit I wasn't impressed with this game at all. Although I wanted to complete it I could never get passed a certain bit and going back to the start of each sequence became tiresome and frustrating.

After reading through some of the comments on here about the mechanics and how to block bullets I decided to give it another go and managed to complete it fairly easily (it helps when you take your time and block bullets) I played through some random levels after I completed the game and I was actually really enjoying it.

Still not in my top 10 games but I think its a game I will go back to from time to time, happy that I listened to the advice given in here or I probably would never have played it again.

This game should be called Super Slow. I'd say a tortoise with arthritis could move quicker then those enemy red guys. I think my 90 yr old Gran would have no problem dispatching them, but she refuses to wear the VR headset in case it ruins her perm LoL.

I realise that you might just be making a comedic comment, but just in case you hadn't grasped it, the point of the game is that the hostiles only move when you do, so technically they are just as fast as you are.  :)

No,  I have tried moving fast and it's really impossible to  get them to move full speed.

Which game did you play? .. none of that happened for me. The enemies don't actually "dodge" .. theyre just in motion, if you're not leading the target you wont hit. I've never been unable to pick something up and I've never had my punches not register. I think you're just doing it wrong man.

I will give you that its too short but. Also if you're criticising it you could have also mentioned how there is only a fraction of the number of weapons and levels as the flat screen version. I mean seriously, where is the Katana blade? Where is the base ball bat?

The game is repetitive, predictable and definitely doesn't live up to the hype. Also it's presentation and mechanics on how time and physics work is wildly inaccurate.

I have to question the aspirations and attention span of people who think it's the best thing since sliced bread.

i agree, the game is overhyped and the guy saying super hot and all these people imitating it makes me want to punch something super hard

You do realize that almost literally every game has unrealistic physics in it, no one likes to precisely emulate normal gravity or normal person running speed, the list goes on.

The fact is that it's a game, and as such has its own right to present whatever mechanics the developers want. The thing is that it gets almost unanimous praise and that should tell you something. If you don't enjoy the game (we all have types of games we don't like) then it's either not for you, or you lack the technical skill to enjoy it and it leaves a sour taste in your mouth.

For some of us, it may not be much challenge to get through, but the control and omnipotence it invokes makes it quite the experience.

To question peoples "aspirations and attention span" in a game where you have to coordinate your movements and focus on what to do for decent stretches of time to reach the end goal of surviving, is kind of ludicrous.

time stops when you don't move, which makes it fairly inaccurate as a real life simulation too.  wildly inaccurate 10/10.

just shows that not everyone likes the same thing.  Hurrah
