Question

Superhot is super overrated

I know I will get a lot of flack for this post, but here goes. Sometimes it seems that rift users will fawn all over a game simply because it's touch enabled. The fact is that  Superhot is not all that hot, and not  for reasons some may think.

I don't have a problem with it because it's "too short." I find that if a short game is really compelling, you can play it over and over again and continue to get something out of it.  I also love "the Matrix" style graphics.  My main beef with the game is that the game mechanics are all wrong.

I throw an ashtray at an enemy's torso and in the next split-second he completely dodges it.  I throw a bottle at an enemy and in the blink of an eye  he shoots it, shattering it to smithereens. I shoot a bullet at an enemy that would clearly hit them head-on and he dodges it. Obviously, since bullets move much faster than people do, this would be impossible.

Then there are the times when the game won't let me pick up an object. When you reach toward an object and come within range, it should be covered with a set of thin blue lines, but sometimes this does not happen, causing the player to lose.  Most players would consider this unacceptable with other games.

The worst part is, hits that should count but don't. I will make a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head and it goes right through.  This happens A LOT.  Plus the game seems to forget that I have arms too, not just hands. If my hand is held up at right angles to the enemy, that means that my elbow is blocking his swing! Even if you want to consider me a couple of disembodied hands, a punch that clearly connects with the enemy's head should count every time, not just when the game feels like it.

This game is supposed to make you feel like a superhero. I don't. I just feel frustrated.

If you really had the ability to slow down time, it would be no contest and your enemies wouldn't stand a chance. The developers, realizing this, put in a lot of handicaps that shouldn't exist  simply to make the game artificially challenging.

It almost sounds like you may have some tracking issues to iron out - I haven't had any issues picking up items even off of the ground - or punches not connecting when they should have. It is a bit short, but has tons of replay factor, hopefully Superhot VR 2 is coming and even greater!

I like this game a lot. At first, I thought to myself "this is the game everyone is raving about?" but then I kept playing and really got into it. I think the thing is early on the scenarios are very easy and basic so you aren't doing much but just trying to get time to move a bit while later on you are in more tricky scenarios with many enemies so you aren't just standing there waiting for a single enemy or two to get close to you.

Early on I was just standing there but later on I was all over my play space, mainly crouching or kneeling on the ground, sometimes even laying on my back or side when reaching for some weapons or avoiding the uzi bullets. I gather that one's enjoyment in a game like this will really come down to how they play it.

I have not had any issues with picking up items or thinking enemies are dodging my attacks or my punches not registering. The only issue I have is that I suck at throwing in VR (good in real life though!) so those items I throw are rarely ever connecting unless the enemy is super close to me. :)

I will say that while I do like the game a lot, I don't like it as much as most seem to. I easily prefer Space Pirate Trainer to it which is my favourite VR game so far. I'd probably rate Superhot in the mid 80s range.

I bought this last night, and lmao... this is great. I was worried that all the feedback I read about the game would make the experience bland for me, but I was dead wrong.

I found myself performing Neo-like moves ala the Matrix. Sometimes I would line up my guns on opposite sides of me, aiming slightly ahead of the enemies, and then look straight ahead so that I could pull the triggers and "assume" the bullets landed, just like in a damn movie.

I must have looked absolutely absurd each time I did my "look away and kill" moves

I can see how some folks may find this game lacking in luster. It does play a bit like a board game. It feels like what Hitman GO VR could be if it were made in to a First Person Shooter.

But the ingenious combat movement should be hailed as King of FPS Creativity.

If I were to describe the greatness of this game in one phrase it would be:
Super Hot is what a First Person Shooter becomes when authored by A Clockwork Orange

I do feel that it deserves the hype, and an award.

All I wanna know is why the hell does it not show all your scenes how you did them at full speed at the end?

This is what I was waiting game for and was saddened deeply when it never happened :(

That's a great feature request. You should send it to the dev's buddy!

I enjoy this feature in the desktop version. I suppose in VR they would have to switch out to a third-person view to avoid making the viewer feel sick. That would be supercool, actually, but would involve a lot of effort to generate a full body model of the player... I guess they could just show the hands and head like the Oculus avatars, I'd still like that.

Sharing the video with each other for particular sections would be awesome, flinging weapons from one part to another

Necro thread here. Just got the game and it's trash. Anyone who thinks this game is great is just sucking on the copium or is very impressed by very little. It's not hard, it's not fun. It makes you move way too much for a VR space, usually taking out of it and if you (or the game) makes one mistake, boom restart at the very beginning. That's the frustrating part that makes it bad. Bad gunplay, bad throwing, bad melee, bad design. Cool idea though.
