Question

TerroRift Demo v0.1

Well this is my first project using unity and as a "Game Developer" i am just a web developer but i bought a devkit 9 month ago and decided to make something.

I was inspired by dreadhalls for me one of the best horror demos for the oculus, so after playing it i got some ideas and started the project 2 weeks ago. This is an early demo, i dont know if i will add more things (may be better AI and some random things) .

Please give me your feedback because is difficult to get scared by my one ideas :P i got some friends that acted like betatesters and i made them scream a littlebit. You can check their reactions in the facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/terrorift

The Goal in the Game is to get the 7 piano scores, play the piano and escape from the Castle / Dungeon.

I only tested the windows version, let me know if you test it on Mac.

This is the windows version 0.11 : https://mega.co.nz/#!u55wTQzb!j-EslSkXlh-DJ8eZ_p4Is514Ivw8bUw-isB8Iy7A3jE

I just absolutely loved this horror game, it really scared the crap out of me more then a times! It had that really creepy feeling the entire time and really reminded me a lot of dread halls. Having some type of hud indicator to show how many "scores" you have collected would be cool and maybe having your torch go out so that you have to find more. I really hope you keep working on this and thanks for sharing!

Guys! if any of the 206 Views played the game please give me some feedback, i need to know for example if the game is to heavy for normal videocards owners, i built it with a computer with 2xGTX670.

    Thanks!

really enjoyed playing this, scared the living crap out of me though! I love the narrow feeling of the walls and the creepy atmosphere adds so much to the game. I think incorporating a random level generation each play would put this over the top, i'm not a game designer though so I dont know how much work that would be to do. In regards to the graphics I ran it on a AMD Radeon HD 7700 (not a basic card or top spec) with full graphics and worked great. Keep up the good work and ill look forward to what you produce next!

jammusgrove, Thank you very much for the feedback! yes you are right making it random and adding a better AI system will make it more Replayable, i am thinking about making this better or start a new project, the thing is that i got anxious and i decided to upload it :P. Great to know that with a single 7700 its working ok! and thanks again for taking the time to play it and give me feedback!

Whoa.. that was freaky. Effective forsure.. I feel like it would be better if the head movement was separate from the body position. So that way you can look over at the torch and over your sholder. Otherwise,.. great idea, just needs some level dev ;)

Thank you! In my first version i thought about making the heead independant from the body. Then i saw that most of the oculust games were not doing that and thought that users were more used to that. But you are right may be i can give the option to the player in the begining of the game.

Hey buddy! Thank you for letting me know about the game. It was really intense at parts. I would just try and put the papers in places that are slightly easier to find. Looking for objectives is awesome but, in my opinion, it has to be a bit easier!

As mention in my reply to you on Youtube, I will be uploading the video soon! I just rendered it and it is pretty awesome! :o

Hahaha yes its true. May be it was not so easy to find the piano scores. For me it was easy because i knew where i put it. I will take your advice for my next project!

A couple of games used a method where it's sort of connected. The more you look in a direction while moving, the more your body will turn to match that direction. Not sure how it feels playing that way though.

Had a couple of friends over and looked over and hoped for some horror demos. And luckily yours was here !
So i got feedback from 4 people for you.

    - they and myself LOVED it. This was actually the first horror game were on of my friends finally chickened out.
    Love the sounds especially.

About random generated levels. In my opinion, it will ruin the horror effect since it seems many of the scares came from scripted events (?)
example the pic and the build up horror with sounds where in random generated levels its harder to accomplish.
This will ofc damage replayability but I'm more for having an awesome first time experrience.
    - a body could be nice yea. A girlfriend of mine got a scare from the torch itself and i have an feeling that that wasent the scare you had in mind for this game, tho she is one of the "faster" to get scared.

Cant say much more since i havent finnished it yet since i just had a fast round up with some of my friends but will add more when i finally get the nerves to finnish it.

But i must say of the few horror demos that i played and liked. This is definitely one of the tops so far.
