Question

VR in iRacing, stutters randomly, vision is extremely distorted, occasional complete black

I am attempting to use my Quest 3 to play iRacing, I have a 3070 and ryzen 7 5800x, my settings on iRacing are turned down to only having the car textures on High everything else is low / off. the resolution on my Oculus app is set at 0.9, the refresh rate at 70hz.

The issue is that after maybe 5 minutes into a race, the VR starts looking terrible, it gets all distorted and it looks like certain squares are not where they are supposed to be. Randomly it will begin to stutter and freeze. Additionally, sometimes the whole thing just shows a black screen. I am using the Quest 3 Link cable from Meta its brand new.

Same issue here. I'm using meta quest 3 with iRacing, link cable, GeForce 3080 and the distortion is terrible. Oddly it worked flawlessly for a couple of weeks then *poof* FPS started dropping to unpalayable rates. I *think* I've resoved that with a GPU driver update, but now the distortion is unbearable. The track texture distorts and becomes blocks. Aliasing is horrendous. I have stress tested the entire system. The ONLY variable left is the meta quest 3. Support from Meta on this is on the level you'd expect from an catalog order help desk reading scripts.

Just to keep this thread going, with so many people having the same issue, and no solution yet.

All screens very clear until iRacing starts via the Airlink connected to PC which is connected to network via ethernet cable. The picture becomes distorted as soon as the loading screen starts. If i move my head there is a lag of the screen following my head. in iRacing the objects closest have some kind of clarity and sharpness as expected. When looking further away it becomes distorted, and lines around objects become more and more jagged the further away the object is.

Once start racing the lag is enormous and it is impossible to race.

For comparison, ran Assetto Corsa Competizione through the Steam VR link. Same issue.

For comparison, running a game like Golf+, it works seamlessly.

Help needed dear Quest devs and support team.

This explains the issue pretty well. Same thing. It's like this regardless of being cable link or air link.
I am also considering switching to a direct PCVR solution, but that is expensive.
One more thing I haven't tried yet would be a PCIe usb expansion card, but like another user said, link is reserving too much VRAM, which may be why something like Virtual Desktop looks so good even though that may introduce latency so it's not the best solution for everyone.

I gave up on the quest 3 and went back to my HP Reverb G2.
Here’s the problem: Meta Link is reserving ~1.2GB of GPU RAM and when running iracing  on a 10GB 3080 iracing was the not getting a total of 4.5GB (so there’s even more GPU RAM being used by something..) which causes iracing to drastically scale back textures. Using the HP Reverb, iracing gets 8GB of GPU RAM which makes a huge difference in texture quality. The GPU memory math doesn’t add up either. This started recently which makes be think something changed with updates.

conclusion: you will need significantly more video RAM to run iracing on Meta Quest vs other headsets.

I have the same issue with a 4070 with 16GB of Grafic RAM... So Ram could not be the Problem.

Witch OS are you running. On my old PC i have no problems with Quest 3. It was Windows 10.

Now the new PC is running with Windows 11 and i have the same problem. I can run iracing for maybe 5 or 10 Minutes, the the screen freeze for a short time and after that the picture is out of sync and stuttering.

I have a i9 14900k 4090 and 64gb ram running everying off of a m2 ssd and ive tried every usb3 cable under the sun and a dedicated wifi6 router that's practically mounted to my racing sim and I still get stuttering on my quest3 when I play iRacing - so I also doubt it's a vram issue. (and yes meta support.. all my drivers are up to date lol)

That sounds pretty much what I'm experiencing, the pc itself seems to be doing very well, not over spent at all, the image and performance I'm getting just doesn't equate to a satisfactory experience. Unfortunately I think it will be going back.  My Reverb takes a bit to run but it's smoother and clearer. Thanks for sharing your experience

So far the best (or least worst) solution for me is using the wifi6 router with VD, and using H264+ encoding rather than AV10 because the bitrate is able to go up to 400+mb whereas AV10 seems to be capped at 200mb. It's not perfect but today it was playable.

New VR owner went with Meta cause of standalone feature.

But it was really important that iRacing runs well. And it doesn't. Especially connected with AMD GPU and iRacing not implementing anything for amds its running weird. My PC is also not struggling at all running in every option I get lots of headroom but performance is just bad. 7600x - 7800xt - 32gb 6000mts running of nvme... Sometimes I get it to run amazing with tons of dialing in ODT (which still can't save settings from what I can read, been a while) and AMD settings. But that it caps itself out on 45fps on some tracks in some moments with 20-25% headroom left. It is annoying as hell. Tried everything from 1.0x res to 1.7... I get it most stable at like 1.3 and 90hz and then it drops on me with 30 cars connected throughout entire race. So my question is next, if I'm using original LINK cable on good mobo with enough system left to carry out entire thing why it doesn't? I am in order off buying wifi6e to run VD, but I want wired connection as it has to be more stable. Why it's not. Was wondering for a while should I go NVIDIA for it, but everyone is reporting same stuff. I now even can work wtih AA and distance blurries as some Radeon settings can be super useful but I need stable 90fps.

Having the same issue with almost same pc specs. It starts stuttering, a slight freeze and than a terrible lag in the headtracking, some square artifacts etc. It only works when I close and reopen the meta app. With some luck It doesnt happen during the race. Seems like an old problem like this is not going to be solved soon...

Same issue here. It varies from time to time, depending on the track and event. Very unstable, I've tried all the workarounds and settings, nothing has worked. I'm almost giving up on Meta Quest 3 + iRacing because I don't think they work well together. It's a shame that Meta and iRacing do not care for this.

Same here!
I'm facing kind of tearing/shimmering in one of the lenses and FPS drop! This happens suddenly, on certain tracks, and sometimes during the race after a sudden freeze. It’s almost impossible to drive with this! My specs: Quest 3 via cable (2.8-3.0’speed) i5-13400F, GeForce RTX 4060 8GB, 32GB DDR4, SSD 1TB

If anyone knows how to fix, pls πŸ‘

So I had similar issues, occasional black screen only to return to a movement lag and a stutter, as if it wasn't sure if I was actually moving my head or not.

What solved it for me was a setting deep in the computer, I went to the oculus debug tool (Program Files-->Oculus-->Support-->oculus-diagnostics-->OculusDebugTool.exe) and there is a setting in there called "(PC) Asynchronous Spaceswap"  which I disabled. I just did a race with no issues.

For me, this problem only just started happening I'm not sure if it's the recent season update or just being at a new track(I was doing porche cup at Hermanos RodrΓguez, super cool and fun track btw) and I've only done a couple races so who's to say it won't come up again but it feels like it won't.

Unfortunately I was in P2 the last race I did when the problem occured and crashed out because of it, and the race after I fixed the issue, I was late and wasn't able to qualify, crashed 3 times before finishing the race P14.

Hope this helps someone. I don't have crazy specs (i5 8600K and gtx1060, 24gb ddr4) my desktop is 6 years old now but I've never had this problem before and I've been enjoying VR iracing with no issues on the quest 2 for about 3 years.

Edit: Its been 24 hours and I realized that the setting will flip back automatically if I force shutdown the meta app, so I had the same problem again, opened the debug tool and had to turn the same setting off again and then it worked no problem, from now on I will always check the debug tool before my races.

I'm just starting to experience this issue - this sucks because it's a deal breaker for iracing, wich is the ONLY thing I do with the headset. Please Meta figure this out.
