Question

Is it time to accept that Meta is no longer supporting quest 3 link with Nvidia drivers?

591.86 WHQL — January 27, 2026 was the last working drivers from Nvidia that meta quest link supports. Since February 26, 2026. Nvidia 595.59 WHQL update and onward has caused a wide spread issue were Meta quest headsets have been crashing (screen freezes on a frame and tears) after 1 to 20 mins. For me personally its about a minute.

It has been exactly 193 days since there has been a working version quest link for currnt drivers. I have multiple friends that have experienced this problem. I see countless post on reddit even now and even on these forums about this issue. And it hasn't been address at all. Its been just over half a year since I have been able to play games on the latest Nvidia drivers without having to install older Nvidia drivers to use for VR games. This is how me and many other people have gotten around this problem since many new games don't work with older drivers. I have upgraded from a 3080 to a 5080 / new pc (not related to VR breaking) and prayed that it would fix the issue, it has not.

Is it just time to accept they are no longer supporting Link on quest 3 any more? I legit don't know what other reason this issue has gone on and i have lost a lot of faith in this headsets. Thinking about switching brands but I have purchased stuff on quest store and I like quest desktop link so I don't want to.

Man it get's a little depressing seeing all these tales of woe.  Everything Meta does breaks everything and bricks everyone's headsets, lol!

With nvidia driver 591.86 and latest Meta non-beta updates my 4yo QPro and 3yo Q3 continue to work very well with both Link (official link cable) and Air Link (with a good 5Ghz wifi6 setup).  I have a pretty strong PC (9800x3d/rtx5090/64Gb 6000ram).

I'm not sure this will help everyone, but here's what my current ODT file looks like;

I use this same ODT for both Link and Air Link btw.  I hope this may help some of you.  Cheers.

It also depends on what bitrate and/or rendering resolution settings they have set in the Link app or in SteamVR.

steve_40  Since about V74 update I've found that Dynamic bitrates work very well.  No need to input a specific bitrate, codec, or rendering resolution.  These are properly handled automatically.  I've never found it useful to go above 750mbps max (which is only applicable to link, not air link).

As far as meta-link graphics settings go, I use 80Hz refresh rate because I don't see any significant improvement going higher, and it gives me a bit more headroom.  I do start to see some ghosting if I go down to 72Hz though (esp. with fast racing sims). with my rtx5090 I set the res slider full right, but if you have less than a rtx4070, I'd suggest dropping that down a notch or two.

As far as SteamVR video settings go, I suggest setting these manually (not auto) to 100% and disable advanced supersample filtering.  For SteamVR games you may increase % video in per app cases if you still have headroom.

For win11 graphics settings, I suggest you disable hardware acceleration graphics (HAGS) and turn Game Mode = off.

Nvidia control panel all defaults except power = prefer max performance, and change texture quality default from quality to high performance.  I've also found it useful to use DDU in safe mode to properly uninstall previous nvidia drivers (google how to do this) and nvidia graphic cache (which it does automatically).  Also, select the option not to let windows update drivers.

Anyway, all I can really add here.  I hope this helps some users.  Cheers.
