What are the specs of your PC?  Do you want to be getting 144Hz refresh rate?  Would your graphics card give you 4K plus 144Hz?  You probably also want G-Sync.

You might be best looking at 2K and 144Hz for the best experience.

I bought an Acer Predator 2K, 144Hz (goes to 165Hz) with G-Sync just the other month - very nice!

He was a spammer (he's posted the same on other forums, made two identical threads on here, and the word 4k was a website link).

I've changed the 4k link to something more appropriate. :)

Anyway, it may have started off with a spam post, but monitor discussion sounds useful, so I didn't delete it.

I've got the same. Very nice monitor.
Small bezel, 2560x1440 res, very stable stand (I was testing an asus 4k monitor at work, it was way too unstable, too easy to tip over).

Only downside is the price, gsync adds $200 or so to the price of a monitor over the same base unit with freesync.  It's a shame we have nvidia not supporting freesync and amd not supporting gsync. We need a third party to come in and slap some cooperation into them (mainly nvidia).

The Samsung CHG90 is interesting. http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/gaming/49--chg90-qled-gaming-monitor-lc49hg90dmnxza/
    It's a 49" gaming monitor with:
    - HDR (they are vague on the details)
    - quantom dot technology
    - 32:9 ratio
    - curved screen
    - 1ms response time
    - 3840x1080 res

I don't like curved monitors and the 1080 vertical res is a let down, but it otherwise sounds like it might be ok. Performance should be fine, since it's half the pixels of a 4k monitor (and only 13% more pixels than a 2560x1440 like the acer predator).

    It costs $1,499.

Don’t see how 4k matters for a monitor innless you plan on
getting a 55 inch plus and plan on sitting a few feet from it.

The cost is still to high to run 4k, I mean computer resources not money.

Any recommendations for something around the 27in mark ? Not too pricey and UK please. :) and doesn't have to be 4k

I love threads started by spammers and turn into legit discussions.  :D

I'm using a Samsung 4K TV as a monitor on one rig. It's a 40" model (KU6300) and I got it for $500 (though it has dropped as low as $300 during Black Friday sales). They claim it has HDR but it's sort of bogus since it only does 8-bit color and doesn't have the brightness for real HDR. It also has some motion blur issues due to a slow response time. Anyhow, it still looks great overall and has been fun to play with.

If you are doing any sort of work on the PC, I would recommend a monitor, but a TV is generally cheaper (for the same size) and is great to gaming and multimedia purposes. The main issue with 4K is that it's super intensive graphically. Even a 1080 Ti is not enough for some games, like the new Deus Ex or Far Cry Primal, it's a struggle to reach 60fps on High settings. Lots of other games run well though, like RE7 or BF1.

I think the best option now is probably a 27" 1440P monitor, so you can read text without scaling, and run games well at that resolution with a 1070 or 1080 card.

Same here. KS7000 (that's KS8000 in NA) for console and PC gaming. A lovely size as well for 4K desktop. I sit quite close to the TV when working, then kick back further away for more relaxed playing. So the TV offers the best of both worlds. Only drawback is if you're one of those 144Hz geezers who swear by it - this TV doesn't offer that even at 1080p.  You can pick one up now for around £800.

It does make a noticeable difference, going from say 1080 to 4K on my 28" monitor.

    No it's not.  Get a 1080TI.:P

1080 28 inch monitor what's that. I had a 1440 27 inch monitor for that last 7 years. 1440 is still the sweet spot for monitors. 4K TV's for Monitors is a shit solution. Maybe when 4k has more time to bake on the content and computing side in a couple of years; I actually think VR might push 4k even faster since 4k will make such a significant difference; when you have a screen in front of your face magnified all of a sudden all those small pixels come in handy.
