Question

A few informational questions

Hi Peeps,

I'm new here. I will be ordering my rift soon. What I really want to know is about the programming. I see many different kits mentioned. Are there pros and cons to which one to use? My programming skills are mainly in C#, what would be the easiest transition to make?

What kind of media can be used for this? Is it all 3D animation, or can you use photos, video?

Todd

Thank you for your very verbose response. I still did not see though if media other than 3d animation can be used. My main focus is on using a couple/few GoPro cameras mounted to a helmet for stereoscopic video to create virtual walk through's. Is that possible?

Awesome! Now can this be done with say, Sony Vegas and converted for the rift?

While I am not familiar with Vegas other than knowing the name, it should be possible. All you need to do is to convert the dual video's into a Rift friendly format, and then use a VR media player to play it back.

In theory, a fish-eye filter with chromatic aberration should do the trick, however, you run into people with different IPD profiles. Check out any number of the Rift game-play videos, take one frame of those, and try to duplicate it.
