So the house hunt went well and we have an accepted offer. Just waiting on the paperwork and an inspection on a 7 year old house - which shouldn't be a problem.
Sadly if we get this place I won't have a dedicated theatre room. I always knew that was a bit of a pipe dream and we still have a fantastic living room where my audio setup will go. However, we do have a double garage that we're considering using as a workout room, storage room, and my VR room. If that happens, I get to coin the new term "Garage-scale VR". It also means I could leave my racing chair set up all the time instead of having to move it every time I want to race, something that has kept me from using it as often as I'd like.
Good thing I got a third sensor!

Awesome news! Congratulations. I too would love to own some property, but here in San Francisco they will charge you $1M for a cardboard box on the side of the road. LOL!
Trust me, Vancouver Island has jumped significantly in the past year or two. Prices in Vancouver were ABOVE San Fran prices. There was an article showing Celebrity homes looking like deals compared to similar properties in Vancouver and even Victoria. We will be paying more than we initially planned on spending, but we can still comfortably manage the payments without being house poor and the house and property is exactly what and where we wanted. My spouse will always want more land, but it's a decent size (quarter acre) considering we're still a 5 min drive to everything.
We couldn't afford property even half this size in Vancouver or Victoria, but luckily I'm a bit up-island where we can afford a great place. To be honest I wouldn't want to live in Victoria or Van anyhow. They're nice cities but we like being a bit out of the major centres.

Congrats. I'm expecting a raise pretty soon, too. Still gonna be living in the same old apartment, but at least I'll be able to afford to buy new VR games again.

I spent nearly half a year in Canada in my 20's. Vancouver is one of my favorite places on Earth. I guess the word got out and now the price hike will have to be accounted for considering I plan to retire to Vancouver sometime after I turn 60.
I'm originally from Ontario and I never wanted to admit how amazing BC was. Then I moved there for 7 years and had to be dragged away. Four years later I'm heading back and I'm digging in like a tick.

I enjoyed a winter in Ontario. As a Texas boy where Christmas is welcomed by a hot sun, being able to shovel snowy driveways was a damn treat. I attempted to drive on those frozen streets only twice. The second time I did donuts for half a block against my will. Great times.
Zen - Driving on snow is very similar to wet gravel. If you can drive on one you can probably do fine on the other. I actually enjoy snow, but from this year forward I'll have to drive to the mountain to see any significant amount.
Because this guy has a house on the West Coast. A home theatre was out of our reach for now, but the house has a large open concept including the living room which will sport a brand new sectional and a reclining armchair. It's the next best thing. I've been living in rentals for the past 11 years and for the past 8 my poor sub-woofer has remained disconnected, in a box, in the basement. I half expect a colony of spiders to flee out the port when I finally turn it on.
Most importantly (for this forum), we will be using the double garage as a workout room, workshop, and my VR room. This means I'm trading my current 10'x8' office with two desks, where my Rift is typically set up, to a garage-sized area where cord length is my only limiting factor. The garage will also be fairly dark with only a small set of windows high on the double door. For the last month I've had my Rift set up in our living room, but that wasn't a good long term solution.
This also means that I can finally leave my racing chair out and ready to go all the time. I've barely played PC, AC, and DR in the past 6 months because there's so much setup required. No longer!
Moving in July with possession in August. Thanks for all the positive support in this thread :)

I don't know man, I have this debate a lot. Everyone likes to say that the problem is capitalism
It's more like corporatism. Capitalism seems to be the whipping boy and take all the blame, but really that went away long ago. You're right, it's a human problem. Any system would work if people did the right thing. No system will work if people are willing to do the wrong thing.
