Question

HTC is introducing ads inside Vive and will track when you’re looking

From PC Gamer.

After all the doom and gloom about Facebook buying Oculus, does anyone else find it ironic that HTC is taking the first step towards the dreaded tactic of monetizing our gaze direction with in-VR ads?

And once they confirm what they already know.........  That it only takes a picture of Jennifer Aniston to grab the attention of the majority, then there will be no stopping them  :o

Honestly, if they can do ads in a way that is not overly invasive and doesn't break immersion within an experience, then I say good for them.  I kind of expected more companies to experiment with VR ad-space by now  (but I suppose Facebook and Oculus have intentionally avoided being the first ones to do so, because of all the critics sayings that's exactly what Facebook would do)

Also, I hope they differentiate between a player "looking at"  or "engaging with" an advertisement and attempting to deface or destroy one.  If I see a World of Warcraft ad and fire a virtual rocket launcher at it, they had better mark me down as "not interested".

It's hard being the voice of reason when you're surrounded by unreasonable people.

I remember when ea put adds on bilboards in 2142. Good idea if done correctly.

I like the adds in pcars flr example because certain places do have adds!

I think product placement could be a big thing too without taking anything away
