Question

I am an aspiring Game Designer :)

Hey Forum,

A bit of soul searching.....

Personally I consider myself to be a very creative mofo :) I am an idea guy and right now (for the time being) that is all I am really good at. Sure ideas may be cheap... I get that. This is the whole reason I am soul searching in the first place. In the past I have been written off as a troll from many forums, because my pure creative enthusiasm completely lacked the insight and wisdom that I have now.

just google search for "cubytes" you will see what I am talking about. But know that some of my past idea posts are a bit far fetched and completely lack insight and consideration; which is kind of embarrassing....

As an idea guy I don't just conceptualize obvious ideas/features anymore like I used too. I conceptualize experiments with a keen eye on the big picture. I back up my ideas with lots and lots of consideration and thought processing before I even share them with you (which is what I failed to do in the past).

Honestly the whole reason why I love being a part of this forum is that for the most part you guys have embraced my creativity and haven't completely chased me off. And I greatly appreciate that. For the time being I will continue to check this forum regularly. I am always on the look-out for new insights and ideas to add to my repertoire.

I am certainty capable of conceptualizing my own ideas from scratch, but my expertise is that of organizing ideas into something amazing. I am also skilled at taking someone else's idea and running with it as far as I possibly can. Then just work my way back to the present keeping only the key insights and use that to base my ideas on.

As of right now I am probably not cut out to be a game developer/designer/creative director. At least not in the short term that is and most certainly not on my own. I would need a mentor.

I had thought If I could just get my foot in the door on some ambitious VR project, my work ethic, positive attitude, and pure creative enthusiasm would take care of the rest. But who would hire me considering I lack the skills?

On the flip side, I'd had hoped I could get started on something, and inspire a team to help me build it so I could just learn as I go. But I realize that is nothing but a pipe-dream now. For how am I to convince someone (or recruit a team) to work on something with me... when I myself don't have the expertise, necessary tools nor the funds required to afford such an endeavor?

    Good.

That type of negativity does nothing to promote budding talent and open discussion. This is supposed to be a community of artists and developers interested in exploring and learning about VR, not a cesspool of douchebags intent on putting others down and crapping on people anomymously to get some perverse emotionally dysfunctional jollies.

This is the second time he was banned for a month. Last time he got his ban lifted for some unknown reason. Apparently he still has not learned how to interact like an adult in a social environment.

Yeah, I unbanned him my mistake. I thought it was only a 1 week ban (but it was supposed to be 1 month).

I won't make that mistake again.

If he has had his one month ban warning already, why is he getting a second one month ban? Cut the cancer out.

Well, I like to give everyone a chance to do the right thing. Seeing his past posts, though, there is a good chance he will get banned for real the next time.

    Dare to Dream M8.

    A) I have an Idea that literally make Oculus obsolete.
    B) I also have one that uses its technology and innovative design and elevates it to new heights.

I chose B. Simply because the user base is here. Advertized bought for 2 billion and has a market value.

    Now,

    a) Should I start on my design and start selling it before this product is proven and given its RVM (Real Market Value)?

    Or

    b) Do I wait till this company is worth 20 billion +

Knowing my Idea is worth more than this product I wait it out.

I have a project for an mmorpg Im working on as well. Based on Oculus design of course. Your energy may be very positive for our gaming environment.

    All and all.

Dont lose hope. We all love good Ideas.

Maya+ Motion builder + 3ds max + after effects and Photo shop seem to be the industry stander for the time being.

Indeed! That is the path I want to take, mixed in with a bit of blender and game engine experimentation of course -- as long as I don't get too distracted from my main goal.

I am very interested in focusing on learning: Maya Creative Suite + Adobe Creative Cloud

It is a bit intimidating to learn skills that take years of practice and learning to get good at but I have plenty of time and I am not in any hurry. I went through this same hump regarding music production: http://www.beatlab.com/users/28067 Sure its just a simple online grid based sequencer and for the most part I just organize sounds and loops that other people have created just for the fun of it. But in just 3 years time I got really good at it. And not only that I go out of my way to help the community out and as a result I was offered a position as a community manager and admin -- which I gladly volunteered for.

As an added bonus being a blank slate/newb I don't have to unlearn years of traditional game development habits. I also want to focus my efforts to developing VR content specifically!

and if learning how to compose CG or develop game content is anything like learning how to produce/mix music then that means its 1-2 years of 10% learning and 110% trial and error/experimentation/ideas -- and I certainly have a natural talent when it comes to trial and error, experimentation and ideas!
